Marked 197 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Hey everyone, Today I'm going to talk to you about a goal which I consider very important: building a solid staff team. There was a period of time not so long ago where the staff team remained the same for more than a year, perhaps longer. Over that time staff became inactive, and slowly our team broke down. At this point, few of us are active, and there is next to no communication between what team we do have. Normally this isn't something that should be announced publicly, but it is an appropriate introduction. In the past I was reluctant to let too many members become staff, because I was afraid that the majority of active members would be staff members. The main motivation for this topic is the lack of production on the site. I'm talking about the site itself, projects, resources, everything. I want to increase growth, and for that I think we need a solid staff team as a base. Alight, lets get into it. I want to build a solid staff team, so obviously I'm looking for a decent few members. At the top of the list, you must be able to communicate with the rest of the staff team. I am looking to create a real team for RMXPUnlimited, so communication is essential. Other attributes that are essential: -leadership -maturity -enjoyment in working on a website -activity -teamwork(sub category of communication) In addition, we do need to build on RPG Maker VX, and possibly the other engines if possible. Therefore the following positions are available: -Director of RPG Maker XP -Director of RPG Maker VX You may be wondering what are the jobs of these positions. While I have a good idea of the tasks these positions require, I'm not going to specify them. The members who can think of these for themselves I'm sure will suit the job. There are also the following positions: -Global Moderator(1) -Game Development Moderators(2 local mods) -Tutorial Moderators -Downloads Manager Moderator -Gallery Moderator There are a ton of positions here relative to the activity of the site, but I'm sure not all of these will be fulled. Although I have come up with these positions based on what I think we need. There are currently 6 members who can moderate globally, but by my count, only 2/3 actively moderate. I am also wanting to bring the staff section, which worked so well on RMXPUltimate. The staff section is a forum where ideas of the staff are discussed, a place to encourage communication. Hopefully this will help the growth of the site. This topic is also for open discussion for everyone, and I'm interested in what everyone has to say regarding this topic. These are just my ideas alone, so if you guys have any idea of your own, I'd like to hear them.
Enter Animations 0 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Of the members whom I thought may be good for those jobs, many of them were already staff-affiliated. Maybe some new blood would help thicken the selection?

FranklinX 37 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 As you know I'm trying to start a resource team. Recently neither member have been online. One member has produced nothing. It's been really tough to get this going as well.
BlitZ++ 2 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 Hey, i'm pretty new around here, but i know when doing something which requires a team effort, like making games, websites, and other communities, you need people, if people arn't active, or even active enough, sometimes development can get so slowed down, and sometimes even stop... I hate it when you have something good and then you loose it due to inactivity. Rated, if you need any help, i will be happy to, just simply ask. :)
Broken Messiah 20 Report post Posted April 10, 2010 I didn't know there was a Resource Team( can i get in?) and i think i could help with the tutorials section manager position. i've been using xp and vx for about 2 and half years so i have decent amount of knowlege with both. Leon 55 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 Who are these mods that actually are active? I mean... I may not post often, but I police atleast once every 2 days. As for a solid staff, [sarcasm]Try oak, or cherry. both are very sturdy. [/sarcasm] You should go with people who are active, yes... but also look at how well you can trust them, and if they'll abuse the power.
Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted April 11, 2010 I wouldn't mind being a Game Development Moderator. I don't post as much as I used to but find myself here at least 10 times a day :biggrin_002: . Might make me post a bit more; nearly at 800.

Marked 197 Report post Posted April 12, 2010 What about me if you don't mind me asking ? What position were you interested in? I actually havne't seen you post too must, although I can see you are quite active, which is good. i think i could help with the tutorials section manager position. i've been using xp and vx for about 2 and half years so i have decent amount of knowlege with both. I have yet to setup the tutorials section. What I'm planning is a forum per engine for tutorials, and then move our current tutorials in there. We currently have 3 sections...which is just confusing for newcomers. I'm not sure if you would have too much to do, but I can't see why we can't give it a go. I wouldn't mind being a Game Development Moderator. I don't post as much as I used to but find myself here at least 10 times a day :biggrin_002: . Might make me post a bit more; nearly at 800. Hmm yeah. But if you need motivation to post more, perhaps you have lost interest? There are tons of topics in the wrong sections in the Gave Development category, and I think that some of the mods miss them because they use the recent posts hook in the sidebar or one of the "New Content" links to find the posts. Tomo2000 60 Report post Posted April 12, 2010 Hmm yeah. But if you need motivation to post more, perhaps you have lost interest? Lost interest? NEVAR  Just been busy with a lot of projects that I'll be able to make a release on soon. Just a few touch-ups with the next town for Hope Afloat and the next room for Alone and they can make a release, just to name 2 of em. I've also been addicted to the Trauma Center Series lately, bought 3/4 of em and already won them multiple times. I got Under the Knife and Under the Knife 2 for DS and New Blood for Wii. The newest one is coming out May 16th and it looks awesome  . Kiriashi is jelous of my mad surgery skills on Trauma Center :D Took me 26 hour to complete all 3 games and it took him 20 to complete the first one :D . Also have been writing a song on the piano for music class next term. Also gotta start getting my grades up, especially concerning maths. Anyway, hopefully some of my other titles might be able to make a release soon, such as AZW or EtN. I'd still like to apply for the Game Development Moderator position. Marked 197 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 Any position would be fine with me, but i'd like to be a global mod. We do not need a global mod for now, and generally more established members in the community get the job. No offense of course, I'm sure we can find something for you :) Lost interest? NEVAR  Just been busy with a lot of projects that I'll be able to make a release on soon. Anyway, hopefully some of my other titles might be able to make a release soon, such as AZW or EtN. I'd still like to apply for the Game Development Moderator position. Ok I'll PM you soon. Hey, I wouldn't mind helping this site out! :) Great :) I think at this stage what I'm going to do is setup a staff section, write some introductory topics and stuff regarding the points I made in the first post. And hopefully we'll go from there. This topic is still open of course for community discussion. The members interested in becoming staff should receive a PM within the next few days, sooner if I can find time... I'm also going to try and create our own moderator control panel for our local mods. This will basically make it easier for you to moderate your forums, and any local mod can use it. I wonder if I can create an alert that picks up necro-posting... :)
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 In the past I was reluctant to let too many members become staff, because I was afraid that the majority of active members would be staff members. This is always a possibility and potential that just about any community faces at one time or another. Someone member thrive on the idea of "being something" thus they become more active. Even our fellow guests would try by joining simply because: "why be just a lame member when you can be staff!" To be honest this in it self is based off you and your other Admin keeping track of what and when your staff comes on. I have seen communities have members labeled staff and it has been almost a year since that "staff" member had been on. The job of staff doesn't stop at the simple ones, but also expanse to the admin. After all updating and improving the site is not your only task as if your "staff" (mods, who ever) become inactive or just don't do their job they are wasting your time and the communities. Something to think about. The main motivation for this topic is the lack of production on the site. I'm talking about the site itself, projects, resources, everything. I want to increase growth, and for that I think we need a solid staff team as a base. Perhaps your problem is the type of staff you are looking for (will explain this further down)? There are also the following positions: -Global Moderator(1) -Game Development Moderators(2 local mods) -Tutorial Moderators -Downloads Manager Moderator -Gallery Moderator To be honest most of these positions are useless and can be done by the Moderators themselves. There is no point or reasoning for having a MODERATOR for tutorials, download manager, gallery manager, etc. This is where you run into "to many staff being active and not the members themselves. The focus here is not staff; even I could tell that from reading this post. As you have stated there is a lack of things being done: resources, projects, etc which is all based on members doing what we think they do because they joined the site. In truth most members join and we may never see them again because they joined and got what they wanted or got what they wanted as a guest. In truth and my own experience I would do something quit different (will explain further down). There are a ton of positions here relative to the activity of the site, but I'm sure not all of these will be fulled. Although I have come up with these positions based on what I think we need. There are currently 6 members who can moderate globally, but by my count, only 2/3 actively moderate. Perhaps but some of the positions you thought of would simply be "more staff being active then members." In fact here is an example 2 of the six actually MOD. Perhaps it's time to pull the plug or send them a message about what you feel and what will happen if they fail to show or start doing their job as a MOD. I am also wanting to bring the staff section, which worked so well on RMXPUltimate. The staff section is a forum where ideas of the staff are discussed, a place to encourage communication. Yes, why you don't have one is surprising. It also allows to discuss other issues as well besides ideas among the staff. Hopefully this will help the growth of the site. This topic is also for open discussion for everyone, and I'm interested in what everyone has to say regarding this topic. These are just my ideas alone, so if you guys have any idea of your own, I'd like to hear them. Alright so as I said above perhaps the issue may relate to some of what you speak, but sometimes "GOING SIMPLE" is what is needed. Moderators Perhaps pick a few and go through the forums and add them where necessary. Having a COMPLETE team of just Global Mods counters the thought of having FORUM MODERATORS. Global MODS Should be no more then two. ===================================================================== ===================================================================== In fact the most basic staff positions are: MODS, G. MODS, Head ADMIN, and ASST. ADMIN. So seeing as how what RMXP Underground is is makes sense to perhaps add the following: Resource Team Graphics team, which sole purpose is to post and bring resources to the community. Take requests and the like. Support Team Sole purpose is to give support in the proper forum. In fact they should respond before a member. Script Team Sole purpose to give support on pre-made scripts and take requests. ============================== ============================== Now some of the positions above may seem like their is more STAFF then members, but this kind of over staff makes more sense then the adding to more useless MODERATORS (not saying current mods are useless just the new positions you came up with). Plus our friendly Resource, Support, and Script team members are not 100% staff as they can not Moderate out side their parent forums. Something to think about. Marked 197 Report post Posted April 13, 2010 If you're still taking Global Mod positions, I'd like to help you out with that. I generally get on a few times per day. Thanks for your interest :) Although I think we have enough global mods, especially with the return of Wyzrd. @The Hooded Man: Thank you for your input :) That is definitely something I was looking for when I posted this as an announcement. One reason in particular for this is that I'm planning a super secret disappearance soon. Well not exactly, but I will be away in the near future for extended periods and I don't want the site to be at a standstill (in terms of new ideas and the like being implemented on the site). And my main goal of course as I have said over and over is to create a staff team that works together. I think that you will find that I will follow what you posted. I'm starting to feel like our global mods are set, and the members who are their deserve to be that high up the hierarchy, they are community leaders. I have already began organizing the Resource Team. What I have not thought about yet is a Support Team and a Script Team. I think that the scripting on this site is completely dead. No doubt it is one of the most attractive resources on a site, but none of our members really know how to do it (apart from the obvious) and even the scripts requests forum is dead. This is something I would like to work on of course. Nisage was truly a valuable member as he was always active in the support forums and was very good at finding scripts. Also, I will be adding local mods to the forums that need them. In particular the Game Development forum.

Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted April 14, 2010 @The Hooded Man: Thank you for your input :) That is definitely something I was looking for when I posted this as an announcement. Doing what I can with what I know....and think. That is a hard crew to come by. Hope you ASST ADMIN plans on being more active then he is now when you leave. Looks bad if Admins don't show up; a I don't care kind of attitude is what guests and perhaps members might start to think...which results in activity among members. I think that you will find that I will follow what you posted. I'm starting to feel like our global mods are set, and the members who are their deserve to be that high up the hierarchy, they are community leaders. Perhaps, but the lack of doing their job (for those who have not) or are still inactive in general is something to be looked at now and as time goes on. Resource Team is nice, support team is okay. And Yes Script Team is hard to come by, But I am reminded of a community that uses TEMP STAFF. For example you create a topic stating WHAT JOBS are available and what they are and your expectations. Once you have your chooses people you add them to a group called "Temp Staff." It would be their evaluation period to see how well they do at the task you have given them. If they fail...well fired! ANd those that work out get moved to a permanent position (keeping in mind hat they do their job and other staff monitor them to make sure they do it). Also, I will be adding local mods to the forums that need them. In particular the Game Development forum. That's cool. I want a "Story & Characterization" forum. After all it is part of the game making process. I suggested one for Creation Asylum and though the site seems dead; people still use it. And I MOD it as well (hint-hint). I am a little surprised that you forgot..coz we did have conversation about it. Anyway, to all members who posted their interest in staff: I will get to you in a couple of days. I apologize for the delay, perhaps this shows why I want to build a solid staff team, I have a ton of stuff to do and time is really running away from me. Marked 197 Report post Posted April 18, 2010 No, it depends on how well they do as a mod and also if there is a need for their promotion. For example Leon, Wyzrd and Polraudio have all been administrators in the past. I will try and send some of you PMs by the end of the day about staff positions.
