My Game's Premise

Recommended Posts

Alright so first off, lets just say I have an IDEA on what I want the game

to be about, but nothing is concrete yet. If you have any suggestions or

ideas on how I can make the story sound a little better or believable, or

if even some critiquing, I'm all eyes @_z. So without further ado, here

goes:

You are <name>, the son of a duke in the service to the king. Your father

was a great military leader, and has brought you up in his image, starting

your training from a very young age. Being nobility, you are priveleged

in the ways of academics and tactics, and thus have been given command of a

small unit of soldiers. Your first mission is to investigate raids along

the border of your province. Mid-mission, you receive word from the King's

advisors with orders to destroy the village you are investigating. Men, women,

children, everyone and everything is to be razed. Being a young man and naive

in the ways of the world, you are at conflict with the orders, and thus have

a choice to make: Do you save the villagers but make yourself an outcast

to the kingdom in which you have been raised all your life? Or do you follow

orders as all good soldiers should? The choice is yours, and the path you

choose will lead you on many adventures.

Alright, now for less story, more feature:

- 4 Kingdoms you can interact with, all being different facets of life, be it

Militaristic, Free State, Religious State, or Pacifist State.

- A Reputation system so you can not only level your character, but your rank

within each kingdom's realm. Increasing reputation with one kingdom will

affect the reputation of the others.

- Single character progression with a semi-open-ended story-line. Become a

soldier for another ruler, a bandit, or even a king yourself.

- A calendar style system, that stretches into infinity, with events occurring

at specific times/days/months/years.

- A fully working bank system with interest earned, as well as income and

taxes from property owned.

- More to come as game progresses.

But yeah, let me know what you think of the plot hook, and please look over

my intended features and let me know if this is something you would consider

playing, or if the concepts are too over-used. Thats what I'm here for, some

creative input. Fire away!

It is very interesting. I like how this is going. Give us some details about the kingdoms and their royalty.

I'm trying to create some background and history for each of the kingdoms, that all once stemmed

from a larger. Each one of the kingdoms' rulers descended from a general or influential leader

of that larger kingdom, continuing their legacy. But, I'll try to simplify it a bit, Im confusing

myself right now. :)

Military State - Relies heavily on the military, so much in fact that even children are trained from

a young age to be strong fighters and leaders.

Pacifist State - Does not believe in fighting, and has secluded itself from the rest of the kingdoms,

refusing to participate in trade.

Free State - A leader is chosen and evaluated by a Tribunal every 10 years. The caste system has been

overturned for a more relaxed civil service system. Everyone performs their civic duty to their

kingdom, whatever task has been chosen.

Religious State - A kingdom built around a belief, and run in line with that belief.

Right now, I just have the basic ideas for them, but as time goes, I'll start fleshing each of them

out one by one. I think that's how I'm going to have to make my maps, start from where the player

would and work my way through.

@The Hooded Man

Yes, I did borrow the property income idea from Fable 2. But that's about the extent that my game will

be duplicating it.

@Myself

I'm going to have to write tutorials in-game for this stuff.. lol.. Or maybe have an item "Handbook"

that calls a common event to display the help files.. hmm.. Need to learn how to script better. :)
