Other languages

Sometimes when I want to add a reply at forum I think how I could explain all I wanted to say with my grasp of english. Usually I prefer at last to choose short sentences to talk about only my basic opinions and I left so many things in the way in order that you can understand me.

Sometimes is hard for me being in the forum, trying to speak normally in a foreign language, because I have to reject some explanations, changing others... and finally I'm not totally happy with the result because I think is not exactly what I wanted to say.

So I thought it'll be interesting ask you about languages.

How many languages do you speak? Which is the one you'd like to learn? Which do you think are the most difficult?

In my case I speak regularly in two (catalonian and spanish) and sometimes at work I change from one to another at the same sentence.

My english level is.. debatable. I can read it well enough, I write it so much slooooowly* and I'm a total disaster speaking it (is like I forget everything I learned ...)

At high School I learned classic greek (Called Koine) and classic roman latin but I don't remember enough to show off.

I'd like to speak German, Irish, Russian or Mandarin Chinese although I think this one would be the most dificult..

How about you?

(I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience with me. I'm less participative in some areas of the forum because sometimes I'm not sure what's going on.. )

*(It took me 15 minutes or so writting the whole text... :biggrin_002: )

That wasn't really bad. I'll admit, you got a pretty good grasp with it. Sure there is times it seems like you leave a word or two out but hey, it still makes sense to me.

As far as me, my main language is English. Though I know a little bit of Spanish, can't say I really paid attention in school as much as I should have. Plus I live pretty close to Mexico so I kind of learned some of it that way to.

Language I would like to learn, well honestly I really don't want to learn another language. Though, lately this one girl I've been talking to is learning Japanese with hopes to move to Japan one day. So, I have kind of learned a little Japanese but not much. I know like two words, but I couldn't say them to save my life. Just know what they mean and can type them.

I can fluently speak Modern Hebrew, Biblical Hebrew, Yiddish and English. My native tongue is Modern Hebrew. I was learning Spanish in school, but it is very bad now as I don't take the subject anymore. I am learning Japanese and I hope to actually use it and live in Japan :P

Awesome! I'm learning Modern Hebrew, and I know some Biblical Hebrew as well. I also speak a little bit of German and Japanese. The hardest language I've encountered by far is Estonian though... it has like 14 different grammatical cases. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that one. o_o;

I also speak a fictional language I've been working on since I was a kid (and am using it in my RPG), but I don't think that counts. xD

Can you read Hebrew? This is my name in Hebrew "יִצְחָק אָדָם יְשַׁעְיָהוּ דָּוִיד"

Also, what Japanese do you know?

I'm just starting out so I can't read it very well yet... but I believe it reads (and forgive me if I romanize this wrong) "Yitsaak Adom Yeshayahu Daviyd". : ) I have the Rosetta Stone program for Hebrew, which works really well. I just need to be more diligent with it, haha.

My Japanese is rather elementary as well, as I have not studied it in a long time... but I can read it okay, and with my Kanji dictionary I can figure most stuff out eventually, haha.

Hm, interesting name... I would love to learn German, sounds so cool and mean at the same time.

Yes, German is a very nice language and so easy to learn.

I can speak German, Arabic, Spanish, French, Japanese and English.

I'm from Egypt, so usually I have to learn Arabic as my first language, but I didn't. Immediately as I born we wanted to go to Germany, that's why I had to learn German first and then Arabic. So I learned German and in Germany, I forgot to learn Arabic. Until as I go to Egypt again, it was everything nice, but then I had to learn Arabic. But I didn't, because I hate Arabic as language and there are many differences between Arabic and German. The font of Arabic is so "يسيسي" and the font of German is so "Was geht?".. There are so many differences, right? Well, I can speak a little bit English, I'm learning this language even in my school, we had as homework to learn new vocabularies for English. French, I'm learning this language every week in my home, not in the school. In the school we become this language first in year ... I don't know wich year. Japanese, I've learned this language because the most of the Japanese games. I like the language, but I like it more to play Japanese games and understand what they saying. And I like the font of Japanese. Spanish is like French..

Your English is pretty good. I did not actually know that English was not your first language.

Personally, I am learning French at the moment and I can sort of speak... a little "broken" French.

Let's see... I can fluently speak English, German and Dutch. I can also speak French and Japanese, but sadly only a "broken" version.

Lastly I also learned a bit of Latin back in High School, but I practically forgot most (if not everything) about the language because I've never actually used it.

And im also currently being made to learn Russian which i know about ten words of.
