FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 Enterbrain has been in the game development world for nearly two decades. RPG Maker 95, 2000, 2003, XP, and VX. The PS systems have a few RPG Maker games. They have now invaded the Nintendo DS. What does Enterbrain need to do to make the RPG Maker better? They need to give tutorials to costumers instead of costumers giving costumers tutorials. We are going to each other as a costumer service instead of the provider. Enterbrain does not teach us how to make character sets, scripts, cut scenes, and events. They need to give us this information before we seek out other game developers. This slows down the game making process and the RM Community as a whole. RTPS should be more than what we get. The moment a new RPG Maker is made more resources are demanded. Enterbrain should released new resources on a weekly or monthly basis. They advertise you should make a fantasy fan game in their commercials. Well.....provide us the resources to make such games. It is like telling an experienced chef to cook fried chicken without a cook book.
Marked 197 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 They had a survey were you could have complained to them for the next maker. I'd paste the link to the survey, but i can't figure out how to copy urls on macs :( I hate macs. Anyway. Enterbrain actually does nearly everything you mentioned. The only problem with the tutorials is that they're in japanese. I posted a link in the resource section to the spriting tutorial they have, which covers a lot. But of course the english can't read them, and i dont think they want their work altered and redistributed. As for resources, they do that too. I uploaded some in the gallery. You can find them at tkool blog, google it. They are really infrequent though. There were 4 or entries for RPG Maker VX resources, but i think that was it. FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 They are not really doing what I mention for everyone. That is a problem. RPG Maker is liked world wide. Why not provide everyone with this information? 4 new sets is not much for the past 2 years.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 I think they need to make a RPG Game maker that deals with higher graphics for those who wish to have...well, higher graphics. Maybe something that resembles PS1/2? Or N64? Or maybe SegaDreamCast? That would cost a lot of money to make, and then they'd probably sell it to use triple the cost for a few years... Polraudio 122 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 I think they provide plenty. The only thing they need is more features. The way the have resources is good, there is no need for a tutorial. Just look at the images and scripts and try to recreate it. The images enough provide enough to know what size, and its a perfect template. If you cannot look at the images and get how its made there is a problem. Sprites 4x4 easy enough. I dont think they need to provide more resources or tutorials than whats in the help file. The help file gives you everything you need. For the Editor. I would like to see more features like, more layers, default 8 movement with sprites that turn all 8 directions, pixel movement option, option to change screen resolution, VX's notes, not really any of VX's features just all RMXP with them added things. Like Omar says RMXP = Windows XP = Win RMVX = Windows Vista = Fail
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 31, 2010 Looking at scripts and images will not help everyone. Not everyone learns the same way. Looking at a script is very complex. That is no way to learn how to script.
madanchi 18 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 they dont give that much graphics so the user is more encouraged to do his/ her own - but then again, what if your a scripter and not a graphics kind of guy also what they could do is, if you want the same event in a line (e.g. when walked on, fades lvl music to next music) you could be able to stretch the event into a line rather than copy and pasting it multiple times. Just a little feature basically to save a little time. Plus allow 8 direction for the characters, 8 animations instead of 4 etc
Marked 197 Report post Posted June 1, 2010 I think they need to make a RPG Game maker that deals with higher graphics for those who wish to have...well, higher graphics. Maybe something that resembles PS1/2? Or N64? Or maybe SegaDreamCast? That would defeat the purpose I think. There are complaints that RPG Maker XP is hard to use and get used to, and so I think that enterbrain are targeting hobbiest game makers who arnt looking to dedicate half their time to programming for weeks on end to make very little. If they were to go 3D, it would be a lot more complicated and a lot of current RPG Maker users would not use such a program. If they wanted 3D, they would go for the 3D engines available now such as 3d Game studio. Though I think theres a simple one called FPS creator but never tried it... Also Franklin, heres a point. If enterbrain made tons of tuts and resources, no RPG Maker communities would be able to deal with such a site. They would never get popular and they would die. Perhaps enterbrain is letting the engines resources develop by themselves. The competition between RPG Maker websites actually promotes better resources. Thats what competition does, because they compete for users.
madanchi 18 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 well, they did release a trailer for rpg 3d, but that was some time ago now, and I doubt it will ever get published ever http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmtb1KeV8eI
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted June 2, 2010 I think that is one of their games for the PS2.
Broken Messiah 20 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 A advantage in 3d I would assume would that for a character set you would only need one animation per movement eg. when a 3d character walks and turns, the 3d model just turns by some degree. However imagine how big the download would be.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 RPG Maker 3D? 0_o
madanchi 18 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 yeah but i doubt theyll ever rlease/ make it :/ oh and Franklin, i dont think it was for the ps2, there is some rpg maker ps2 titles but I dont think that's one of them
Enigma 10 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 I think that it would help if they could update rmxp to use be compatible with multiple languages including rgss 2, c++ etc It would be nice if the games made in rmxp could be played on a console
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 lol, I think it'd be nice if they had a built in Menu Screen maker or something. That way you can make your own custom systems with their own custom menus. More options than just 4. Better battle system. Nobody likes Dragon Quest style. ProjectTrinity 8 Report post Posted June 28, 2010 I'll jump right on this. xD - They made 2D really easy and sometimes fun to learn and master. Even so, I'd actually love to step things up to 3D. And lets face it, there are more people willing to play 3D anything before they play 2D anything. If they can make it just as easy to learn, master, and script, that'd be great. - More support for America maybe? :'< I lost my serial key for my legal copy of RMXP ("Legal". <3). I asked them how I could possibly get that key back or get a new one after I prove I've bought it. I've yet to be contacted. =( - If you're advertising some very pretty elves-I mean characters on a logo (Like RMXP's), it'd be nice if said characters were in the actual software. =p - Let it be flexible enough to import it to consoles. Like the PS1. (Which will end up on my PS3, but watev. :3) - Support movie clips out the box without custom scripts , because some of us have artists that can animate. xD - Update the public more perhaps. I've heard...well...no news on a new RPG game whatsoever. (Unless I'm mistaken) - And I guess least importantly, an easier way to map areas and a far easier way to move sprites around. Sometimes I wonder if moving 3D around would be less time consuming. xD And there we go! My input for the thread.
