Polraudio 122 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 We should have a desktop overhaul contest. So far from what i see from people is different backgrounds and thats it. It would give a people a chance to explore their computer even more and maybe learn something out of it.

Polraudio 122 Report post Posted August 13, 2011 ...What do you mean explore and learn more about it? >.> Some people dont even know that you can change every aspect of your computer. You can change everything from the loading screen when you first start windows to changing the whole shell/GUI of the OS. This contest will encourage people to explore around and see all the neat things they can do with their OS. You can learn about important system files and what they do, learn about ways to speed up your computer. The list goes on forever. I learned a few system files have to be replaced in order to get the look i was looking for. It gives people a chance to feel more at home with their computers. kellessdee 48 Report post Posted September 24, 2011 ooo pretty. But what is that crystalline substance? Sand? I am also glad I am not the only one who hates having things on his desktop (well I dunno if you hate it, but I definitely see no icons). my turn! I love the ease of customizing gnome3shell :biggrin_002: officially addicted
Chief 30 Report post Posted September 24, 2011 I have a program called windows fences, and one of the features is that you can double click to hide all icons on the desktop. I do have a few things, but I like to hide them for extra pretty, lol. and yeah, its sand. If adobe made all their software for linux as well, I would totally switch over. Unfortunately, they are tools I need and use everyday, so I have to stick with Windows. 1 CrimsonInferno reacted to this

Yea that's the downside to linux; which is why I am greedy and dual-boot with windows 7 xD Although there are replacements for things like photoshop and illustrator, but adobe just does it better :/ Mind you, I'd love to see what you could do with the gnome 3 shell (the current desktop I am using), the themes and extensions are written in PURE css and javascript. There are some of the deeper innerworkings that are written in C if you know C, but otherwise, the appearance and add-ons are really easy to make/modify. I bet you could make some awesome themes! Or anyone that knows css/javascript for that matter. Even just CSS would suffice! XD
