CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 1, 2010 So the door will match with the templates? :P
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 1, 2010 Aaaah, so that's what you meant >.< Forgive me my brain is fried lately man, thought you meant size of door for template.. I believe if you take colors from the rtp character sets to create your own they will fit well.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 1, 2010 Oh, well, don't worry, 'cause I actually meant both. The size and the matching, but mostly the size. :P
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 1, 2010 XD alright. Let me know how the Xp RTP colors work out on the template bud.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 The the prob...I can't sprite, nor can I figure out the right colours to use lol It'll take me many, many months to learn from scratch... As I said in the other thread, Terra is lookin' good and I can't wait to see the children! :D
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Start out simple, color the scalp marker with your base color for hair and then begin to plan out the hair by drawing out spikes/strands, if you have no idea what type of hair style to create take a look at some anime pictures (or other game characters) to give you ideas. You can use a red outline to help you see what you're doing better too, same deal for clothing. e- Editing and remaking characters is a good way to go for starters too, i prefer to remake rather than edit though. You can also make that character remake your own by changing things up some. I'm no good with tuts but i can make a character frontal step by step to give you and anyone else having probs a better idea, made one or two in the past but i always ended up deleting them afterward. Child is up folks, i will add shadow later on. Let me know if you see something odd.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Also, Crimson is a girl. :3 The new child graphic looks great! Keep up the good work. ^~^
Dark Den 4 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 These graphics are realy looing awesome keep it up :alright:
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Thanks guys ^^, i think i will start working on some material before i continue with the obese templates. CrimsonInferno No idea you were female, i tend to say man and bro automatically when i don't see sex of person ^^ Have a good day folks!
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 Shadow for child added. I've decided to keep the thread as it was before folks, hope no one minds but i just find this more convenient. I will still upload icons and other things there though.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 Thanks guys ^^, i think i will start working on some material before i continue with the obese templates. CrimsonInferno No idea you were female, i tend to say man and bro automatically when i don't see sex of person ^^ Have a good day folks! Bud is fine, it means "buddy" right? Its okay, I call people I don't know the gender to "he/she". Which tends to annoy the person... >.> Also, a lot of people think I'm a guy 'cause of the names I pick lol Also, the child template looks fantastic! It is for both genders, right? Oh, thanks for the spriting tips! And yes, if it isn't too much of a bother, I would really like to see it :P
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 I deleted the images from the gallery like you asked. ^_^ Don't see why you want me to keep on deleting things. xD Keep up the great work man!
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 -CrimsonInferno- I hope this helps ya a little, as i said in the other forum i will add more to this thing soon ^^ Child is male and female. The scalp marker is basically the hair line above the eyes, you recolor the top area with your basic hair color to start with, then you start branching out with strands and such as you see. These days i tend to reuse the template outline colors to add contrast where i need to, take a look at the example characters and you can see i used the template outer lines on hair and clothing. Also keep shade and light source in mind, when you add hair make sure to add shadow underneath. i don't go overkill with light source though (that's just me), i add it where i really need it, and keep it subtle overall. explained left to right. http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/121/51949966.png Pure black is bad imo, because it tends to stand out too much against all colors. And sure, you or anyone can use/edit any character of mine, no need to ask ;) For the example here, forgive the crappy hair, just created whatever there.. :D -Kiriashi- Haha yeah, that's the last.. template i'll ask you to delete ;) I will still be adding to the album, though i will add icons and other random things i will begin workin on at one point in future ^^ -- I've begun work on a tileset, i plan to keep it basic as that will help me stay in focus and complete it faster. This is just the basic look of a tree, i may change this up some more as i go. E- Look for separate thread folks.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 I really like that tree! I have a suggestion [and keep in mind that I man not an artist at all, so this may be a totally stupid opinion]. I think that the darker part of the tree needs more... shading? lol.. It just needs more stuff. Don't know how to explain it.
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 Yeah it's still in the beginning stages, i need to add much more to the whole thing still ^^ I may also make it a tad taller, i want the character to walk under it without being totally covered up.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 3, 2010 OH MY GOSH! The tree makes me think of Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger! I loves it! :D Snap, I think I might wait for tilesets to be made and then make some characters of my own for my game instead of using standard RTP! It looks great! Thanks for the help, Musical! I will test it out and try it myself! :D Which program should I use? Any? I generally use GIMP, but I have graphics gale. Which do you use?
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I mainly use GraphicsGale on WindowsXP, and Mspaint for little things like transparency stuff. I also use KolourPaint in linux, a clone of MsPaint that totally blows it away because it has shortcuts for the functions :) Might take some time to get these tiles out but hopefully not too long hehe.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 Cool! I find GraphicsGale better for spriting, but I don't know all the functions...would you know of a place to read up on it? Linux user. *sighs* I am proud to have meant you and all the Linux users thus far. :) Can't wait to see the tilesets! I'm sure they will look good! I've a question. When you are shading, what direction of light do you normally pick? Whenever I do actual pencil art, I pick the light coming from the left of the picture. But that's 'cause its fantasy lol
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 I normally use a north west light source for pixel work, pretty much like RMXP rtp. I'm using the free version of GG so there's just the basic stuff (which is all you really need,)other than that i have not looked for info though. e- I will be adding an alternate character grid soon, it will be wider for your more luxurious hair styles and animations ^^ e- Mouth and nose extra added for child and female. e- Current wip added to top.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 GG? That's Graphics Gale, right? lol West light? Alright, I'll try it! For shadings lighter or darker, how do you know you have the right shade? Light or dark? How do you know when its too light, or too dark? *If my questions are a bother, I won't ask noes more lol*
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 7, 2010 I draw light from the same direction as rmxp rtp really, take a look at those (especially hair) for a good example. Don't know how to answer that question very well, but here goes, if you are trying to work with RMXP rtp try to match the look if you want it to fit well. That means use the same contrast, colors and shades. If you're going totally original then just make sure to have good contrast between your shades, no shade too similar to the other. I hope that makes sense and helps a little at least ^^ e- and no bother at all ;)
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 11, 2010 Character added guys, let me know if you see anything wrong. e- Removed some dithering off of the back of the helmet.
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Tested the character out! Its perfect! :D Looks so cool against the trees. So what's next on the agenda? :)
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 For a character i don't know yet, i will be sticking with the medieval fantasy types though. For the tile set i'm getting back to that dirt path, then before the next character i will do a template.. thing ;) e- I also added one more shade to the shadow area of the tree leaves, which will make those look a tad better. I will add that with completed dirt path though. 1 CrimsonInferno reacted to this
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 I love Medieval fantasy related stuff, so that's good to hear. :) It would be cool to see this kind of medieval armor type knight in your style :P Seems medieval enough lol Um, I don't mean to be a pest (which I probably already have lol) but do you have the palette down yet...?
MusicalSwordsman 25 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 It's been up for a while already :D, i did make some slight shade changes at the last minute before uploading the character though so i'll be putting that up again. e- Okay colors added to top, i also darkened the darkest green color a little afterwards. The darkest gray color is from the eyes, reused that since i was working with white.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 12, 2010 Seriously Crimson, where are you getting these monkeys? ^~^ Keep up the progress Musical! :>
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 @Muscial: Oh, they were? I didn't know >.> (Now....I just gotta figure out how to use them :>) Kiriashi, would you like me to post a link on your profile?
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 I'd like you to post the link period. ^~^ It's silly when people say "Do you want to see something funny?" or "I made something cool..." and wait for a response. Doesn't that seem silly?
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 It does seem silly, sorry. I just didn't want to continue spamming the thread, or if you wanted all the images. I'll find the link and post it for ya. Give me a few to find it. :) EDIT: There ya go. A link on your profile. :)
