404 Errors

Recommended Posts

Lately I've received some 404 errors on the site when I click recent posts. Is anyone else having this problem?

Which recent posts?

Topic titles with periods will give 404 errors. I'm trying to fix these as fast as I can but people post em so much. :<

O I thought it was just because i was using Ubuntu. Guess its not an OS/Browser issue.

I haven't had any of them errors besides them.

I'm pretty sure it's the periods, but if anyone gets any more 404s, please inform me and paste the link here.

They can't be fixed if I don't know where the problem is.

Ok, Kiriashi, don't change the topic title. This seems to only be an error with the recent posts hook. I tested the other links to the topic. We're using the default friendly URL settings and IPB wouldn't likely make such a simple error.

We can't go around changing topic titles just to make the recent posts work. I'll see if I can remove the dot from the URLs.

Also any 404 should be reported so we can fix them.

Yeah. But Den, the links aren't the same across the forum. Most work. I'm assuming that link was from the recent posts hook?

Correct, that's what I clicked.

I get a few of these errors everyday.

Why not report them? Marked asked if we found any to post them in here.

Same link as above...re-post so you don't have to scroll up Marked: http://www.rmxpunlimited.net/forums/topic/5197-help+with+spriting+...+big+challenge+too/

There caused from having things like ".", "?". There from having some type of symbols in it. so if you create a topic with a title like "help." it will return a 404. But its only caused by Latest Posts, and Recently Added Topics. If you use the View New Content button at the top right of the page instead you wont get 404's

PHP...has to be a way to give the user an error when posting saying those characters are not allowed.

May a mod or an admin make a topic telling members to not put periods in topic titles? I think this will help.

thanks.

Actually Franklin that's no longer necessary. I was waiting to upgrade before I tried altering the Lastest Posts hook. I've altered the links so they don't attempt to use friendly URLs, so there will be no more 404s.

Well if it solves the issue good. I was getting irritated having to find this topic every time I found one.
