Rook 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 "What must we do?" "Light them, light them all. Contain the beast before it is let loose. Trust in yourselves." The world of Terra lies in peace, but under the surface boils trouble all across the lands. A darkness is coming to the continent of Lorensia, something that will shake the very heavens themselves. Introduction ~ Hello, first of all let me welcome you to and thank you for visiting my game development topic. I am Rook, a solo game developer working basically alone on a game tus far titled Forever. Some people may know me as Lucius, Luneth or Luca, or from my Deviant Art account which is One That Never Was, I was once a member of RPG Shadow Destiny on Invision Free. I am now legally an adult, an eighteen year old Australian male from New South Wales, and am studying Multimedia at my local TAFE institute with the hopes of increasing my skills in the creative fields such as animation, games deign, photography and film, among others. Project Everlasting as it has been dubbed is a project that has been developed on and off by me for the last six months. Im still at the creation stage and after six moths am in need of a composer and a scripter to help me create original content. If you are interested in helping me out, then please refer to the topic in the Project Recruitment forum under a similar name to this topic. Dramatis Personae ~ Bellow are the four main characters and the main antagonist of Forever. ~ Characters: Protagonists. Alora Vesilan. Class: Chanter Weapon: Staff. Proficiencies: MN, SPI, Air, Healing. One of the inhabitants of the Temple of the Goddess in the Divia Mountains on the border of the Orion kingdom. Chanter by trade, she can use her voice to evoke the Mana around her to perform harmless acts like snuffing out candles, lifting ceremonial objects and so on. Alora is an orphan, her father in unknown, her mother however was found adrift in the river that runs through the temple, clutching Alora's basket in her pale hands. Her final words were: "Protect my daughter," and the sisters of the temple did just that. Alora is a religious, yet optimistic girl, who tells stories to children so that they may utilise their imaginations. She does however find her own adventure story to be her best by far. Euro Lamont. Class: Archer Weapon: Bow and Arrows. Proficiencies: HP, AGI, Earth, Status. The only other town in the kingdom of Orion besides Orion itself is the gate town of Ivin, a small farming town that in old times acted as a checkpoint between Orion and the lands beyond the mountains. Farmer by trade, archer by passion, Euro has great skill with the use of bows and even has bees on his family farm from which ha harvests Honey and wax for bow repair. His parents are both simple farmers, and as per tradition are reserved a place at the royal markets on day two of the Burning. Intelligent and hardworking. Euro is the kind of guy you would like to have on your football team, being both nimble and strong. His knowledge of places and people also comes in handy. Layk Namednil. Class: Mariner. Weapon: Sickle. Proficiencies: DEF, AGI, Water, Healing. Born on the sea, lives by the sea, Layk loves everything ocean. Port Maridian is where Layk calls home, a great merchant port, one of the shipdock hotspots of Lorensia capable of holding a total of thirty ships. He is a sailor himself, and he knows the ropes, he is also knowledgable about geographical locations, especially islands and large bodies of water. His father died at sea when he was a young boy, and he was raised by his mother until she remarried into a happy life with the captain of the Whitegull. Layk is quite the ladies man, preferring to hang around in bars and taverns with any number of ladies. Though a skilled sailor, he prefers to spend his spare time on land, as females are uncommon among seafarers. Nix Pheo. Class: Fighter Weapon: Sword Proficiencies: HP, ATK, Fire, Sabotage. A young man working in the underground, leading a group of mostly females in a secret rebellion for equal gender rights. He prefers to keep to himself, noting that the past is seldom important, and that the future is what we must strive for. Though, what he has said to a select few is that he is shunned for his beliefs by his father, his mother has left the family to rot in a cesspool of male corruption, and he himself is the only on who can rise up and stop it. He believes the Burning, a sacred act for the dead though more celebrated in royalty, is a symbol of change. The beacon has been lit that will guide human kind to peaceful, prosperous and serene world. Nix is quiet, and quite a pessimist, he takes more of an interest in the ideas of females, and believes males have to earn his trust if they are to join him. He has been teaching skills with weaponry, most notably the sword, to women whom have no skill in that field, or young men whom join him. Adrianna von Taren. Class: Sorceress. Weapon: unknown. Proficiencies: unknown. The female villainess of the game. Adrianna was born in the desert kingdom of Dysuri, on the continent of Venosia. Not being born on Venosia her accent and skin tone stand out in the crowd making her quite difficult to miss, thus many remember her even if she just passed through. She, like the main characters, is an Elementalist of the Inner Mana Circle, with power over the element of Luna. Because of this she is an adept shape shifter, able to take on any form, however her eye, hair and skin colour remain the same, this means that if she turns into a dog, the fur will be white, the eyes read and the skin brown. Shapeshifting drains her power though and she has to take time to rest her magic, she seldom uses shapeshifting because of this. Adrianna believes that because she has dominion over change, she in turn has dominion over the world because everything changes: plants grow, mountains eros, people age, seas churn, and so on. In order to prove her dominion she has set about absorbing the powers of the elemental gems around Terra, and the souls of people or animals whom hold great power. The party is charged with the task of stoping her. Adrianna is mostly quiet and prefers to let others do the dirty work while she takes the spoils. She fears losing her power and does anything to stop it from happening, even sacrificing humans. Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 The game sounds really neat! I like the tribal art on the title screen. Good luck!
Rook 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 Thankyou Kiriashi, I will try my best, the title is just a fast little thing, I want the main one to have an eqyptian heiroglyphic on it, which my fried will draw for me, and I will transfer it VIA photoshop and tablet. Siverix 4 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 what i like the most about your idea is the custom religion thingy but what i would like to ask you is what does wax have to do with bows anyways?
Rook 0 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 Waxing the bowstring is necessary for sustaining the life of bowstrings, wax protects them from the environment so they don't decay and last longer. Thankyou for you comment, the religion took a bit to make, there are many other religions too, in this game there are 2. The Order, which is a widespread religion kind of like Christianity, and then there is the Sun Faith, a religion much alike the one of Anicient Eqypt, thats Adrianna's religion, hence the heiroglypic on the title being made. zane203 8 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 oooooo dude i just got goosebumps! this game looks smexy, unique art is always a + no matter what lol. looking forward to it =]. question, just random. Any particular reason you chose to do this in VX? (im thinking because the cutesy art works well with chibi sprites =D) but im just really curious.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 This looks promising. Good Luck The gravestone by itself looks odd and out of place.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted July 4, 2010 May I recommend using Mack's tilesets? You might like them more.
Rook 0 Report post Posted July 5, 2010 @ Zane: Thankyou, and the reason I use VX is because I have a laptop with Vista on it, so XP doesn't work. @ Rated-RKO: Whoops, the map was originally a graveyard, guess I missed that one. @ Kiriashi: I have mack's tiles in another folder, for Forever I want to make my own content and going has been slow. I have a distinct style when it comes to tiles, think pokemon and thats basically it. So for now concepts and such are in the default set.
zane203 8 Report post Posted July 5, 2010 O.o you can run xp on a vista. just run as admin if i remember... if not then its a little more complicated but it is possible lol. but eh looking good Rock =D
Rook 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2010 UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE!UPDATE! With the addition of my new and now working battle script, and the newest artist to the team, I have begun work on a demo for Forever. I still am waiting on a few things from people, a battle theme from a friend and a basic edit of the main menu with a few added elements, but other than that work have begun. I have decided to use the default tiles for this as the custom tiles will take too long, and make does not have an overworld tile. This decision is based clearly on the fact of I do not want to have another hassel with trying to find a scripter. FOREVER Demo 1.0 Developed by Purple Crystal Studios. Rating: 12+ Contains: Mild Coarse Language. What the demo will include: -- A battle back and VX-XP Battle system scripted by DerVVulfman with custom art by Rook and Madanchi. -- A slightly modified menus system with a Quest and Beastairy added. -- Each character has a specific growth rate. -- Sprites for the five main characters ( Mack's substituted for the rest until others are done.) -- Custom made Icon sheet, and maybe a little chustom animal character sets as well, curteousy of Valora. -- Modern Algebra's Advanced Text System. -- Other minor scripts to enhance game effects. When it will be released: Worst case scenario, 2 or 3 months, best case senarion 1 or 1 1/2 months. Hope thats incentive enough for you. I have alot of work to do still. Rook 0 Report post Posted July 28, 2010 Sorry for the hold up on the whole updating thing. I went back to school and it has been hectic. Progress on Forever is slow going really, good news is in about a weeks time I may be getting a brand new tablet so all this art can be fancier and school work will wizz by faster.I just have a few minor updates, just keeping you up to speed really and keeping this on the first page. So it doesn't die. I have begun to slowly compile the games dialogue and database, and spent alot of time working on events and mapping. The forest battle back is the only existing one and for now the battlers for monsters are limited to say the least. The animations I think will be drawn by me for their intended purpose in order to fit in with the games look and feel. There is the current battle theme in my signature to be updated later when my composers get a move on. I need a few things though before I can release the demo. So if you want them relaesed you better heed my words and scope or help: I need a scripter and a spriter. The scripter will help me modify and correct errors in the scripts that I have found, and do a little tweaking so things happen differently. I also need a minor menu screen edit. The spriter wil help me with character sets and other chipsets, and also help build the tiles and the iconset. Contact me if you are interested via PM. Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted July 29, 2010 You might be interested in a topic I will soon be posting. It as of now was exclusive to Express Game Maker community, but a lack of people signing up has forced me to open it to other communities (well at least one more). Post link to it when done. Fateofdawn 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2010 Nice mapping i need to work on my mapping its my first project so i need some feedback :o
Rook 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 Okay so the foreground graphics are nothing like what I will have in my game, but here is example of the Moons panorama. Lorensia has 3 moons that act as nightly calenders. The game progress is moving really slowly, I am still looking for a composer and someone to help with scripting. So if you know anyone please message me, the demo will not be out until some issues are sorted.
rgangsta 43 Report post Posted August 23, 2010 That screenshot is sexy. Love the glowing butterflies.
Rook 0 Report post Posted August 27, 2010 The game demo is back in action. I still have tons to do, but have limited myself to making only the essentials of the game, such as characters, battlers and battlebacks. The tileset will remain the default for now with minor modifications here and there. Famitsu will supply bases for character sprites which I will then edit and the Icon set will be a premade one. But hopefully by the time its all done the game will have some original custom content. Some thankyous are in order too. A big thankyou goes to Kiriashi for helping me with the menu system, I can't script for crap so he has been very kind to help. Another big thankyou goes to Bane, he has been helping make the game seem a little more realistic and a little less cliché. At this point there are no other big thankyou's Im still on the hunt for a composer or two to help with some original music but for now everything is running smoothly. Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted August 27, 2010 Rook, should I go to the trouble of making the character posing pictures being invisible when the member isn't in the party, or will Alora, Euro, Layk and Nix all be in the party at all times?
