I'm feeling really bad nowadays. I have a stuttering problem and my parents constantly make fun of me about it. They aren't playing either.....

When I was a child, I would repeat words to myself before saying it and they would make fun of me then to. I've learn to not speak without first writing it down and going over it many times. If I would like to strike up a conversation with one (which I rarely do) I have to plan it out, and with that way, I don't know what they will say so my response will have to be different than what I wrote down -- therefore my stuttering problem and repeating problems appear.

I stutter a lot, and I'm constantly made fun of, by siblings and my parents. Its mostly my parents who do it and when I ask why they make fun of me for stuttering, they claim I'm retard and that I don't get it from them..... =(

Is this normal for parents and siblings to say? I can't tell...and does anyone have any suggestion on what I can do to make myself talk better for them? Should I just stay in my room?

It's not normal in any circumstance for parents to behave like that. As admin I'm obliged to use astrixs. They're being *****. Sorry, but doing that is unacceptable.

I'm not too sure what can be done with stuttering. Perhaps speech therapy? I think you should see someone about it where you live. A person really shouldn't go through life not saying what they want to because they're afraid the words won't come out right :(

Does speech therapy cost money....? I have no money or a way to make money. :C

Its normal for siblings to do it, it just happens, but for a parent to do it, its just freaking idiotic. return them for new ones.

Parents doing this is demeaning I thinl. I know alot of people that are gay, lesbian, or bi ( myself included) and I know alot of chinese people. My parents though make fun of the LGBT community and my mother does not like asians very much.

I myself am usually a center of ridicule, but they are like unsults, things that seem like compliments but are usually insulting.

I am very supportive of my friends, something I don't really like such as excessive drinking. Plus they ridicule and put down people for things that have nothing to do with anything. Like my friend, his new boyfriend game to visit and afterward my parents and sister just discussed how gay he was, and even impersonated him. I went out with them on the weekend, it was great fun, but I even got poached for that.

Schools provide speech classes. Talk to your school counselors about it.

I say you should just practicing articulating words. It may not be that you have a common stutter, but when you say a certain letter or sound, it causes you to stutter. Identify when you usually stutter and figure it out.

I have a feeling a speech coach is not very available to you.

That said, the stutter could have been indirectly caused by maybe a lack of self-confidence or maybe you being an introvert? You might just start to get embarrassed in a conversation and lock up.

Just practice.

I would kill for a conversation with you to see what you are talking about. XD

Oh, and your parents suck btw. Your siblings, just dump baby powder on them while they sleep.

I had this problem once but found a way to stop it.

Answer a few questions and we can get started. :)

How well do you talk to others in school?

Can you talk to teachers just fine?

Do you sit in the back and hope not to be called on?

How shy are you?

Do you get out of the house often?

How often do you speak to others?

I see that I am not the only person with horrible parents. I used to stutter a lot too. I got speech therapy in my local GP clinic by the NHS (UK). My parents and grandparents hate me mainly because I am a "bastard child", even though I was born in wedlock, I was conceived out of wedlock. This would have been fine if I wasn't part of a Hasidic Jewish family :( My family blames most of my physical problems down to G-d punishing me for being a child from an "unholy" union, i.e. my abnormal height, my introverted behaviour, my epilepsy and migraines etc. Don't worry too much about it, just learn to ignore them, and find others in which you can find kindness and friendship and you should feel better :)

@Chief:

lol. Return my parents? :P

@Siverix:

Yes...well, I get the feeling a lot that my mother is just teasing me, but my dad. Lately, he's been really angry toward me and has been making fun of me a lot, more so than normal.I thought he was joking at first, so I said "Why would you make fun of someone with a problem?" (of course I stuttered a bit asking) and my dad replied because only retarded people stutter. I got really angry and called him a idiot and that he has no manners... :(

@madanchi:

Does that actually work? :huh:

@Cjboy:

Yes, they did...

@zane203:

I wouldn't feel comfortable causing them pain. I did once when they got me really, really angry (they blamed me for something I didn't do and refused to listen to me) and I felt really, really bad for a couple of weeks. I avoided them for a long time afterward.

@RATED-RKOFRANKLIN:

I'm homeschooled...I don't have dramatic arts, a library, a gym (well, I have outside and a large forest full of bears, cows and coyotes :lol: ), art class or a lunch room. Well, I do, but they are of my family members. I don't have a councilor..

@Arkbennett:

Your right, a speech therapist wouldn't really help. I live in a little city (I mean tiny tiny) with over 50 barns and surrounded by forests. The next place that would possible have them, is Richmond. And that's 3-4 hours away. I think I'd die if I had to ride my bike there lol

I don't really know when it happens, it is kinda random. But it mostly happens to words with "s", "th", "si", "es" (like "especially") and words that starts with "b" and "c". Most of the time, I hear the word in my head, its saying it right, but when I speak, I stutter and I can never say the word. That's when my little brother (he's 14) would laugh at me and say the word. I know he thinks its funny, but it still hurts...

The weird part is, I was stuttering as a kid, not as much, but I still did. And I had interactions with other kids, my brother's friends (who were really sweet to me) and my oldest sister's friends (who would braid my hair and stuff) but its always been a problem. But I am really shy, I haven't really talked face-to-face with other teenagers or people before. The only people here are old people who kill my cats and the only young ones egg my house and smash our mailbox >.>

I think I will practice. I sometimes do in my room, or at night, but I guess I have to keep trying everyday. Sometimes, I play Dragon Ball in my room and repeat the words. I don't know why, but I feel that kinda helps me...

:lol: I would love to have a conversation with you too, Arkbennett. I'm sure it would be really fun! :yes:

@Lucas(Polraudio):

Well, I don't go to school school with other children. I'm homeschooled...but before we moved where we live now, I spoke a lot with people my age or older. I still stuttered, but I was only a little shy then. Now I'm so shy, I don't even use a mic on Xbox live >.>

But when school is back in my house, I do hope I don't get called on. I get really flustered. I know I know the answer, but it just doesn't come out.

@isaacsol:

Your grandparents hate you? Well, I've only seen my grandparents four times in my life (they live far too away lol)I think I handle conversations with them pretty good...although most of the time I was outside in their garden-forest place. :lol:

Well Karina it seems like you need to talk to people more often to break out of stuttering.

I might be able to help. We can talk to through skype as a start and it will be easier to help you.

May feel odd at first but you will get use to it and feel more confident and stutter less.

I use to be the same way you are.

Now i work at a job that i talk to at least 50 different people a day from all over the world.

.....Okay, I take it back. My mother and father both do it and they aren't joking. My mother just asked me to fix something near the window (I can't, really...) and I stuttered my "I" and she freaked out. She did exactly what my father did and mocked me. My brother (the 14 year old one and my youngest brother were in the room at the time) heard after she made fun of me. I said "why do you guys keep doing that?" she tried saying it was because I'm purposely doing it to make fun of her (this is when she said I don't get it from her side of the family...), and then my brother said "why do you guys make fun of her when she does that?" and my mother freaked out and said if we don't about it, were grounded from the PC and the xbox...at least now I know they aren't joking...

@Lucas: I don't have Skype...

@Random_Guy5507:

Really? I hope my grandparents wouldn't do this to me. If they do, I don't think I'll be able to look at my family the same way anymore.

I can't even talk about my problem, they get angry... :(

They do.

Its getting really hard to love them. I try to ignore it, but I'm not even allowed to speak about it...I'm so stupid. I actually feel bad for stuttering in front of them. That can't be normal... :unsure:

Crimson is a freaking woman. >.< How many people do I have to tell this?! :sweatdrop:

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles Crimson. :< I had a stuttering problem for about a year, and it just went away. A lot of people made fun of me, but not my parents.

*pat pat*

Just ignore them and talk to everyone here. We'll comfort you. ^_^

In Ecowolfsteen's defense, I've never met him before. Plus my name is a little guy-ish. lol

Would I be weird if I actually cried over this situation? I kinda did last night when I said goodnight and they ignored me...I think I'm too soft or something >.> I honestly think avoiding them is best for now. If I stutter in front of them, they get really angry. I don't want to risk me yelled at or slapped for being a "liar"...

You stuttered too, Kiriashi? One of the reasons I hate stuttering is because I love grammar so much and messing it up irks me. Grammar is my passion, next to writing of course.

Thanks for the support guys, it really makes me feel better, especially tonight.

*huggles to everyone*

Thank you, Kiriashi. Sometimes, I actually do feel that way. I know my siblings love me, but most of the time they are talking about me while I'm still there, insulting me, blaming me for things, calling me stupid...its hard to deal with, but knowing I have friends here really helps me.

So thank you, guys. You make me feel better. :biggrin_002:
