Are comedy movies trying too hard?

I've seen commercial for a lot of comedy movies in recent years and to me it seems as if they are trying to hard to be funny.Scott Pilgrim vs. the World looks awful. 7 ex boyfriends bring problems to a relationship can be made funny, but fighting an army of weird people is just ridiculous and over doing it. George Lopez fails at humor.

Maybe they just aren't trying hard enough.

 

Though I have seen a few good ones here and there.

Scott Pilgrim vs. the World seems funny to me. People thought Kick A$$ was going to be bad and it was good.

Kick Ass was not bad imo, but the really good comedy films are stuff like Hot Fuzz, Hot Tub Time Machine etc so some do make good comedy films but some just fail - so i think they put too little effort

I doubt this only because each person has an opinion so where a few think it's no good there are the same or more that think the opposite. This is the ultimate issue with debating such a topic, you have no hard facts except the opinion of others which in the end is not fact at all and just an opinion. So are comedies doing a horrible job? No because some would agree on many movies being good and some would believe the opposite.
