Suggestions on the process of game making

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I am currently working on my project and have come across a new way of going about it.

I was wondering if the following process will work or has been tried and does not work.

My process is to work on one aspect and only work on that until it is finished and then go to the next process. My current process order is:

All the mapping

Character drawings/sprites

Music

Finalize the storyline

Scripts

The little extras

Does anyone have suggestions in the order I am going about this or whether or not it will work. I suppose everyone is different in the way they build these games but is it easier and does it flow more smoothly if I work on each part separately or by jumping between things?

Thanks

PS (Need to update my card:))

Hello Shuxion, i personally prefer taking care of the Data i need 1st... since i CANT script, compose music or Sprite...

i start by gathering the Mats for the RPG, then start by the mapping and eventing...

So i use the following order:

-Sprites

-Scripts

-Database

-Maps

-Events

-End the Storyline with a Wicked Twist...

-Test and Enjoy

ou can use that order... Nobody can tell ye the way ye work.. as long as you get the job done right?? hehe

Best Regards

Hey, Its Enigma

My Order is

Storyline

Gather sprite resources

Scripts/Database( Menus and Titles)

Other systems( event systems)

GET MOAR SPRITES

Start Mapping while eventing each map

After done

get music

Finished

I prefer finishing the storyline first so that I don't have to waste unnecessary time and resources on maps and characters that wont be in the final story.

From My experience, System wide scripts and stuff are easier to implement and test in the beginning, when there aren't a lot of maps to navigate through if I have to bug test

Honestly, though, I like to complete multiple aspects of the game at the same time

That way, I can make sure everything works together right

What's with the name introduction things? :S

Anyways, all I have to say is finish the story entirely before you begin anything else.

You have a lot better chance at plowing through making the game that way.
