evil cabbage 9 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 I have never actually tried to make a game in RMXP before, so what I am going to attempt to do is make a "shortish" game by myself in order to get my skills right before tackling any major project. Here is a screenshot of a map that I made earlier: (Note: It does not cut off at the top in the actual map, I just couldn't fit it all on one screenshot.) Since this is a game I plan to release publically , I would like some feedback on the map. Please be as brutally honest as possible, because mapping is one skill which I really need to improve on. Emanzi 0 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 :alright: for rtp that looks pretty legit, I'd give it a 9/10 overall because its great but might need one or two more finishing touches, if you just used the rtp which can be a bit limited then its perfect. madanchi 18 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 not bad :) just needs a finishing touch like Emanzi said oh and btw, why is there lilly pads in an ice cave? ;)
Leon 55 Report post Posted October 3, 2010 You asked for 'brutally honest'.... so please, bear in mind, I want this as positive as possible. DON'T get discouraged! My maps were worse than this at one point... First: Is there a reason it is round? I mean, if it is a man-made cavern, i can see it being symetrical, but in nature, very VERY seldom is anything as such. Second: I recommend some more stalagmites. Third: Where is the water coming from? I mean, if the water is sitting there stagnate, it would eventually freeze in an ice cave. If it is flowing, it won't freeze. Again, I am just doing as you asked. I don't want you getting discouraged. There is always room for improvement. :alright:

Emanzi 0 Report post Posted October 4, 2010 thats true, things in nature are usually random but in a purposeful way. I'll check out your next map since I'm also learning something like the above.
DarkGamer 2 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 still the circular form, but that's how the fantasy caves look like ;)
Raiku44 0 Report post Posted October 10, 2010 deffinately agree that the map needs more randomness, the cavern itself seems to fake and not natural enough, I suggest adding in a few more decorations, there are some very open spaces that look plain and bland, Don't get me wrong some maps look better empty but some maps look to empty and they look boring. Instead of putting large patches of terrains (as i can see you have done) place small patches maybe 1 or two patches here and there with maybe one larger patch.. remember the more random looking the map the easier it is on the eyes because it looks more natural rather then fake.
