Raiku44 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 I was laying in bed one night talking with my girlfriend about ideas for my next website, she seems to have a bit of a passion for RANTING about things that peeve her of. not so much abusive rants but more comical rants that you would see a comedian perform on a stage, she has me in tears regularly with her rants. She suggested making a website where people can go and rant, to maybe help cut back on some of the ranters from facebook, myspace etc. i figure it couldn't hurt to attempt making a website such as this so i've began construction of the website. http://ugotbeef.createmybb3.com (Temporary adress) I've decided to name the website "U-Got-BEEF" currently i havn't got a domain for it as it's in an experimental phase so i am using temporary free hosts, the website is in early construction stages and i am still working hard on the website, i just though that i would share the site and see what people think, I am always looking for help so if the site interests you then please feel free to speak up, I am planning to run this website for a descent period and try and make some profit from it. This means that all people who help operate the site will be paid also, not currently as the project is in trial phase but as soon as the site gets up and running there will be a monthly salary that will be determined at a later rate, and of course as the workload increases with the site users the pay will increase. I am really excited about this website and i am looking forward to all feedback but please make it constructive and not a flame or some other pointless post that i will most probably ignore.. Leophard 0 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 Well, considering the topic, I think that the colour scheme looks very decent so far - Red, Black and Purple are usually looked upon as "bleak" colours, perfect for annoyed or aggrevated people who just want to rage about something on the internet. There's not too much I can say about the layout for now, as I assume that it is unfinished. One thing I would advise though is give the Login and Register buttons at the top of the screen a different colour, as a dark shade of Purple can be hard to see with a Black background. Perhaps Red would be a better option, as Red stands out the most of the three colours. As for the topic of the forums, though... From what I understand, it's a forum especially made to rant in? Now, I could see a use for that, but you're going to need some very competent administrators if you plan on keeping it rolling for a long time. After all, if you place a lot of angry ranters together in a small area such as a forum... It can go out of hand real fast. Well, I hope that this helped a little bit. Good luck with your website! ;)

I have deffinately thought about how hot tempers are going to be flowing in and out of this website so i have taken it apon my self to say NO EXCEPTIONS regardless of who the person is. if they are a friend of mine, they can prove they are a good friend by getting over the fact they were blocked from the website and still associate with me. I understand also that the duties of this site will be straining as it will have to be heavily moderated as to prevent racial outbursts or sexist outbursts, i have also taken into account that someone mar offend someone inccidentally by reffering to a proffession or something like that, i have stated many times in the rules that there is to be NO DIRECT rants as in no rants directing at a certain person, i am assuming that a proffession is a little more leniant as comedians get away with it on a daily basis, any people who are offended by it are welcome to express their opinions to the person in a POLITE manner, there will be a report option so if the manner ISN'T polite it will result in warnings and possibly bans. Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) Call me unoriginal, but they do have a F#%kbook (derived from Facebook, but for dating/sex...to some degree) why not just call it Rantbook? And yes a new look is needed. Edited October 12, 2010 by Kage Kazumi

Raiku44 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 haha i found that exact same site about 5 mins after i read your post thanks to google :P but after some conclusion i decided that a forum is probably the better option due to the nature of the site, a forum allows for posts to be force moderated before they can be successfully posted to the public, where as with a facebook type website it would be alot harder and more time consuming to moderate, it may be a good idea if the site is a really big success and i can actually hire a fair few mods to help keep things under control but for now the forum seem's a wiser safer way to go but thank you for your suggestions! :)

This is the one thing I have heard people complain about and that is people using facebook and myspace to complain. Many believe thats not what it is for. So this type of social network makes even more sense then a gaming one.
Raiku44 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2010 as stated above if the site becomes popular enough to take on a team of mods that can watch a large amount of users, facebook is obviously the most established site of it's kind (this is excluding myspace and all the other networking sites i mean facebook and replica sites) and even they can't moderate the users posts. now obviously i am not expecting a HUGE user base as big as facebook but still, 1000-2000 active ranters could be pretty hectic :S

I think the main success of Facebook is fast load time comparied to Myspace. And to be honest the site as you said would not be that POP so you wouldn't have much to moderate on a forum or social network.
Marked 197 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 I think facebook allowed you to connect to friends way easier, it is a far 'social' network. Lol. I'm just guessing as I never used myspace but I got that impression. I had a look at your CSS and found the bit that was annoying me.. a:hover, a:active { color: #660055; text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14px; } Its just my preference but you should remove font-size: 14px, its really annoying when you hover over normal links and they jump out at you :P
clone1018 4 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 This site just visually raped me. I'm really not trying to be mean. But you like this design?
Marked 197 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 Oh why's that clone? How 'bout some "positive criticism", I put that in quotes as it's from the rules. Raiku44, I'm moving you're topic. It wasn't necessarily in the wrong section as I thought we had a place for web design, which we didn't, but after seeing this topic I edited the programming forum to programming and web design. Chief 30 Report post Posted October 14, 2010 The colours are hard to see against the black. Its also a very dull scheme choice. Try to study other templates/designs and grab inspiration from them. Its not easy to jump right into website making and come up with a great colour scheme.
clone1018 4 Report post Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) I didn't provide positive comments because I don't think the current theme can be saved. Mind you... The idea is good. Edited October 15, 2010 by clone1018
