Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 Well making a map I noticed well using the RMXP default grass (found on the grassland tileset) that I could clearly see a 32x32 pattern. So I decided to make my own grass (yes make I did not say recolor) and the result is below in the image. Marked 197 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 That's some nice grass there, Kage. Very similar to XP's actually. I've seen a few members attempt this and it must be pretty hard to do, coz rarely I see anyone get it looking good.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 (edited) That's some nice grass there, Kage. Very similar to XP's actually. I've seen a few members attempt this and it must be pretty hard to do, coz rarely I see anyone get it looking good. Took me 3 hours to do. Now I am working on the grass autotile (water and trail/dead). As well as adding a few grasses with distinctive patterns for truly random grass look; like in real life. Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 Thank you. I might just make my own tileset, but we will see.
Chief 30 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 Fixing the Default grass tile set is really simple actually. Yours is really nice, but some more contrast in the colors would be nice, because I kind o liked the defaults where it shows more of a texture to it.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 Fixing the Default grass tile set is really simple actually. Actually you are incorrect. Simply because you can't compare your skill to anothers. If they lack the skill then their "fix" may make it look worse then it was before. Yours is really nice, but some more contrast in the colors would be nice, because I kind o liked the defaults where it shows more of a texture to it. It's texture is what gives it it's pattern. I'm making more then one grass; about six. So each 32x32 tile will be diffrent thus giving it texture.
Chief 30 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 It is actually a very easy fix. Put it into photoshop, use the offset filter. set it to 16x16. Then the obvious tile problem is lined up along the center. Then you can use the stamp tool to grab other areas that work, and place them over that spot. Its how you make 3D textures, and since RPG Maker doesn't use "real" pixel art, it works for that too. As I already said for someone like you, me, and other who know Photoshop, Paint.net, Gimp etc yes it is simple, but to someone who has never messed with them, no it is not. Chief 30 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 Thats irrelevant, as I was speaking directly to you.
Enigma 10 Report post Posted October 21, 2010 is astounded :D Can honestly say that I wouldn't have the slightest Idea of how to do that and I would say your insane if you would attempt such a feat
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Now now Chief and Kage, let's not get into a fight. I think the grass looks way better than the original tile. You should make a bunch of stuff like this? Also, would you mind posting the actual tile/permission to use it? xD
Marked 197 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Now now Chief and Kage, let's not get into a fight. Haha, its actually quite interesting how similar Chief and Kage are in terms of what they say and personality (as far as posting goes). Actually on a 2nd look a tend to agree with Cheif's first post. The XP grass suits the arshes sprite and hedge auto-tile better, but thats because they're made with the goal of the same style. So I'm not saying its better in terms of the grass tile by itself. jttsteelix 1 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Personally, I like your grass way more. :biggrin_002: I never really did care for RMXP's grass anyway. :alright:
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 I like it alot more than the RTP. It looks neater, and looks like it matches the taller grass. But that's just me xD
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Haha, its actually quite interesting how similar Chief and Kage are in terms of what they say and personality (as far as posting goes). I was thinking the same thing. Its some good grass Kage, if I were still making RM games I would definitely use it. Hell, I might even buy a palette of it for my moms front lawn. Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted October 22, 2010 Also, would you mind posting the actual tile/permission to use it? xD Well Poopy Head I will when finished. I'm working on my own full tileset. All yee can do is wait. And there is a reason why it has no texture and that is because it is just one part of the flat grass itself. Alternating versions and correct placement of it and the others will give it a texture feel.
