Not enough Intro's... Make sure to Introduce yourself!!!

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd mention that I've seen the Newest Member area with a member who hasn't introduced themselves yet quite a lot. I know it may not seem like much, but when you need help with something it helps us if we know what you already know! So just wanted to say... When you join the forums, please introduce yourself! :alright:

This gets the official RMXP Unlimited seal of approval. ; )

Umm, Kiriashi, only I may give things the official RMXPU seal of approval. :P

I too support the bid for increased introductions in the introduction forum.

I dunno why they make an account. *Queries the DB* Of the 12,763 members we have, 11,732 of them have never posted and 1,031 members have 1 or more posts. That means 92% of members who register don't even make a post, and of course the other 8% do.

The strange thing is, aside form access to the downloads manager, the only thing they can with their account is post.

On the bright side, if I send a bulk email there will be a spike in a traffic. Last time we did that there were huge numbers of members, and that was when we only had about half as much now. But, I'm against bulk emails.

Yeah eco I know you hate it. Though they can take all they want as s guest and that's what we're here, to help and supply resources for people to make games. I dont have a problem with it.

I tried to find the number of members who used the downloads manager without posting. It is currently at 9,300. So from that we can conclude that 72% of members register to download from the downloads manager. With 8% actual members who post, that leaves 20% unexplained...

I'd like to try an experiment of opening the downloads manager to guests.

It really is unfortunate though. And, like you've been saying, it's not just introductions. It's everywhere. The chatroom's always empty, the only real active forum, really, is the Support forum. It's too bad, the community here is very friendly and I'm thankful I joined this site.

Oddly enough, I think this forum is better than others.

I guess we just lack that exclusive amazing content, such as Inquistors map -- or a SephirothSpawn.

Inquisitor map you say? I have that, I can put it up for grabs, only for the active people. :P

Maybe we should start advertising, we might get some traffic increase. But we may also get more leeches. Hm, what are bulk emails?

Nah, don't post his content here.

I was thinking the other day we had ALL the nice RPG Makers on the forum, even though that image has diminished slightly over the last few months. I suppose I'm guilty of not worrying too much about activity, my main focus is improvement of the forum/site. Which I still go plenty of ideas for after uni finishes.

According to the rmxp-is-dying theory, the recent requests hook has certainly highlighted our lack of non-xp users, and that would explain a lack of activity. But I dont beleive that entirely, our activity hasn't really jumped too much higher than what we're at now.

A bulk email is where you send an email to all the users. So it would be sending out 12,000 emails which bring in a huge number of users. I would never use this tactic as members would see if then go away again. I would use it once I think the forum is has improved to a point where a bulk email would not only bring members back, but retain them a bit longer as well.

Eh, all the people on this forum that do not use RMXP anymore are our older members, literally, age wise.

Our younger members still use it. It's just a cycle, RMXP isn't dying. There are moar and moar nerds everyday that learn of this. It's just a matter of cultivating them into this forum.

Nah, don't bulk Email people.

What Arky said pretty much makes sense. I mean all nerds want to make their own game at one point, and chances are they will find RMXP through google.

Getting back into RMXP is quite hard, so focusing on people who have used RMXP before is hard to consider.

Perhaps we should advertise more than RMXP Unlimited; I'm looking at you Alexus.

Yeah, when I was away from RMXP, and just now got it back, it's been very hard. I don't know, I guess we can just hope for the best. I think one of the problems are when nerds type in 'RMXP Resources' or something along those lines, they find RMXPU, and use the download manager to get everything. Grr.

But if they get the resources they need, then they actually work on RMXP. And that almost always leads to posting a project topic or asking for more help.

At that point, we can hook the member into the community with our kindness, generosity and humor.

Haha yeah. To be honest the only negative effect of the leeches is bandwidth. If I think we've plenty of that, so much so that if there wasn't leeches, we would just be wasting bandwidth. So therefore it is not a problem. Its our job to turn leeches into active members. The best way we can do that is get people making games, a fundamental purpose of this site.

Indeed. We need to commence operation transformation.

Subject for transformation: leeches.

End.

Seriously though, what can we do that will REALLY work. We obviously are a really popular site... but more than 90% of the people frequenting are not participating in a community, which is our goal. To get everyone to participate.

Hmm.. I have some ideas. (Like the thing I talked to you about in yahoo)
