Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 (edited) Rogue Module I have been dabbing into PHP and anything web related that functions with PHP for some time now (1 1/2 year{s}). As you know I have not been active for a few days and this is due to getting some of my sites up and running, but mostly working on a project I decided to name: Rogue Module. I came up with the concept for Rogue Module (herein refereed to as RM) well using Joomla a lot and wanting something a little more simplified and easy to incorporate with a forum. This brought up a discussion between me and a buddy about CMS (content management systems) and forum software and how there are not many that offer both in one unified system. And those that do offer it are not very good, lack features people want from like IPB or Joomla, or are geared toward corporate business. RM will be a CMS and forum software all in one. I will not say it "will have" this or that as I only have a little over a year of messing with PHP so I will not promise anything that might be out of my league. However I will say, "what we would like it to have" and only time will tell if I or other can or will add it. The overall concept here is to have them work together; one database to control the users (members) instead of two different software on the same server using two different databases. I have even stopped many of my game project to get this started (no legend of dragoon fan game coming from me sadly). As if it will be free or not I can not say at this time or if it will be open source; only time will tell. I also would like it to have a built in design generator so even complete newbies would be able to design their own Themes for RM, but again this is what I would like it to do; not what it may do; who knows. The name I came up with doesn't really mean anything, but neither does Joomla. I chose the word Rogue to say that RM's CMS/Forum/Blog stands out from the rest; different; we do things differently, where rogues. The word Module simply because it is commonly refereed to for items that are software or hardware based. Edited November 2, 2010 by Kage Kazumi

Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 How competent do you feel you are with php? Yes. I have found it easier to learn than C++ though they do have similarities.

Marked 197 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 This is a huge job, and I wish you goodluck with it :) I do enjoy the odd bit of PHP writing, but as a hobbyist and a career going in very different directions I don't think I will ever be able to write a forum. Looking at the number and content of the IPB files puts me right off evening attempting it, and then some. IPB does have a CMS system though, how will this system be a better forum/cms than IPB ? Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 You mgiht wanna reread that question. you didnt answer it correctly, lol Actually I did. One word said it, "yes." Anything beyond that was my personal opinion. This is a huge job, and I wish you goodluck with it :) I do enjoy the odd bit of PHP writing, but as a hobbyist and a career going in very different directions I don't think I will ever be able to write a forum. Looking at the number and content of the IPB files puts me right off evening attempting it, and then some. IPB does have a CMS system though, how will this system be a better forum/cms than IPB ? I don't count IP Content as a CMS simply because it can't stand alone and needs IPB in order to function. It is basically an Add-On to IPB (in fact that is where you can buy it in the IPB Add's Section) and not a real CMS. So IPB doesn't have a CMS. And files very depending on different forums and CMS. MyBB, SMF, Drupal, Joomla; all different amounts of files. I know this will be no easy taks, but why not; the worst that happens is I fail.
Chief 30 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 ... I asked how competent YOU WERE WITH PHP. not if you liked it or not.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 ... I asked how competent YOU WERE WITH PHP. not if you liked it or not. And as I said I answered yes. It is not my fault if you asked more then one question within a question. But yes I am properly or sufficiently qualified or capable or efficient; adequate for the purpose at which I have stated. Chief 30 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 Yes, but I asked How, not if you were. so, how qualified are you, would be the dumbed down question. Yes does not answer that.
Marked 197 Report post Posted November 2, 2010 This could go forever. Even if you're not an experienced PHP developer, which you'd have to be to do this, its probably a could long term project that even if you failed, you'd get a lot out of it.
Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted November 3, 2010 Yes, but I asked How, not if you were. so, how qualified are you, would be the dumbed down question. Yes does not answer that. Well my experience as I said is only less than year 1/2, but this has no real factor as I'm not the only person working on it. I have two others who experience far exceeds my own so even if I have issues they offered not just to do it, but to show me how should I get to a point that I can't figure it out. Plus I already know C# which they also said is an option to create Rogue Module. I hope this answers your question.
