Porn has been argued by some to be immoral. However, porn did become legal in the 1960s. Today porn is bigger than ever. Porn is all over the internet, in stores, magazines, and DVDs.

However, in recent years there has been Aids scares. A few pornstars in recent years have gotten aids. Thankfully no one who they worked with was reported to have gotten aids. Normally pornstars are tested every month, and if they are not tested then they are unable to work.

Do you think porn should be legal?

Another quick fact is that Christians buy porn on everyday of the week except for Sunday. Porn sells from Christians drop in the U.S on Sundays. 82% of Americans go to church so someone has to be buying all that porn.

interesting topic. especially all those facts about Christianity... yeah, god looooves porn:P well, in my opinion its not a matter of legalizing or not legalizing porn, but of educating people. right or wrong most of young children and teenagers get all their sex education out of porn, and they get it totally wrong! i believe that banning porn would do nothing, but i'm sure that educating people and giving them right and positive ideas about sex issues and affairs would. personally i don't opose anyone who watches porn, but i opose everyone who has no idea abou the reality of sex and of human relations (and all the dangers they might have). also i stand against all those who mistreat their partners or dont keep the hygiene rules, just because that's the way it happens in the movies... because that's why aids and unwanted babies nd all kinds of illnesses and bad behaviours come...:(

There are hygiene rules in the porn business. I've never seen anyone who was nasty in a porn movie.

well, see again! first of all i cant recall a single video where they actually wear a condom. if that's not a wrong ethics lesson for a young person, then what is?:(

It teaches younger children, they watch porn, to not be protected. Porn videos rarely, rarely, showing them being protected. There was a documentary on about it just a few days ago and that it should be more closely watched for the sake of the younger teenagers watching.

Personally though, I don't watch porn and I don't really like it, but I don't mind what others do or watches, as long as it promotes being safe, especially if younger people are watching. Even if its against the law for young peoples to get it, they can still get it.

If that's taken care of, I guess no problem. But there are loads of younger people who watch it and don't protect themselves...

I hope this thread isn't too much. Rated, maybe you should use the other term "Pron" just encase of the 12-13 year old children viewing the site :)

Porn does not teaches teens to have unprotected sex. Porn stars are tested every month. Secondly porn viewers demand for little condom use. Porn is about a fantasy. People normally do not fantasize about using condoms. Although there are a few pornstars who only use condoms.

They are tested, but all the pron movies and online stuff, you never ever see them, wearing protection. That's the problem here.

Porn is about a fantasy. People normally do not fantasize about using condoms. Although there are a few pornstars who only use condoms.

Exactly.

It promotes what it shows and it gives the younger ones impressions and whatnot, that they shouldn't have. If they seem some pron movie of two people you knowing, without protection, they'll mimic. Its the same for drugs, alcohol and even teenage sex, which leads to a lot of pregnant 15-16 people.

That's not actually true. In other countries they have unprotected porn as well. However, the U.S leads all nations in teen pregnancies. Don't blame porn for the failure of the education system.

Monkey see monkey do. I'm with Crimson, just because I think that you cannot say it simple doesn't influence sexual activities whatsoever. To whatever degree, however minor, it does promote unsafe sex. Not to mention that stuff with the whips and gags and...nevermind.

I agree that its the education systems fault in the US relating to this stuff. I remember my first sex ed class in, lets see... it may have been 2001. I was 10 or 11, but it was minor, we had to draw the certain parts of the male and female body. Next was in 2003 where we were 12/13 and safe sex was discussed and many various sexual/puberty matters where discussed. Lastly we get it in our 2nd year of highschool where they even give us things to put condoms on, but I didn't. Oh, and there's another in year 12 (2nd last year of highschool) but its more about sexuality and its stupid.

Porn should be legal in my opinion. Minors should be kept away from it in such a way where we try to convince them its bad, because they're going to do it regardless.

This dabte is like debating if violence in video games influences children. It all comes down to parenting. I saw my first Playboy magazine at age 13 and my first porn at age 16, but I never once thought about having sex with some random chick or a girl I knew. At age 7 I was aware of what males and females did behind closed doors, but never thought of even having sex myself. This like anything else comes down to parenting! There are kids who watch porn (parents may even know) and yet they never have sex or where properly educated about sex at a young age and use protection. So when you get down to it, it is a PARENTING issue and nothing more, and those bull sh!t "talks" about "the birds and the bees" should not encompouse a Stork or that Babies are from Hugs. If you can't explain something as simple as sex to your child then perhaps you never should have had it yourself (sex). Plus I like the old way of people learning from their mistakes, so if a 15 year old girl gets knocked up (or a guy knocks a girl up) her/his lesson although late has now been learned!

Agreed about the parenting. Though it also needs to be in school as well. Some parents suck at parenting. A lot of parents don't even care when their kids drop out of school, which I find pretty odd. An uneducated life closes so many doors.

I think some porn should be illegal, which it is. What I think is rather concerning is what disguising 'genres' they're going to bring out next when the normal stuff gets boring. Some sick stuff out there already, but there are a lot of sick people in the world.

Would you mind changing the topic title? Its a nice hook but its misleading. xD

Something like "Morality of Pornography" or Legality or whatever. Just not the word by itself. >_<

EDIT:

Just to be on topic:

I do think pornography is immoral, and a terrible thing. But it shouldn't be illegal.

If someone wants to watch it, the government shouldn't have the power to say they can't. (Unless we're talking about minors, thats a whole 'nother ball game.)

The poll is very interesting. The majority of members watch porn, and half of them think it is immoral. That's a bit ironic.

I have seen porn. Being asexual, it doesn't really do much.

I don't see a problem with watching movies. Saying porn is immoral would be like saying bloody and gorey films are immoral. But different religious groups do think both kinds of movies are immoral so, what do I know?

No, personally I don't think watching porn is immoral. Nor do I find it should be outlawed. I think if some pissed-off divorcee wants to try and get it outlawed, they should try to. (I'm assuming you're talking about America here, I know that some kinds of porn is illegal in all parts of the world.) In australlia it's illegal to watch loli/toddlercon Hentai and a-cup Hentai. In the united states it's illegal to watch or posses CP. People still watch it though. You can't force someone to do anything, anywhere.

I recently wrote a research paper for my sexualities course about sex. I studied a specific porn site. I was very shocked to see that over 90% of movies on the site featured white women. African Americans and Asians were very rare to find on the site. Latins only appeared in about 5% of the movies. The numbers are also similar for the male actors.

Porn is very focused on white attraction. However, there may not be a lot of black and Asian women who are interested in doing porn. That certainly is a possibility.

I got an A on the paper!

Jeez, I was hoping to find some great porn links! Ahaha j/k

But I watch porn occasionally, and do not think there is anything wrong with it. I know there is mush debate with younger people learning from it making it wrong, and a lot of people (not specifically here) feel porn is degrading to women blah blah. But 1 all porn starts chose to be a porn star. Whether for money or because they wanted to, they chose to. And on the other hand (although it obviously can't nor will be controlled effectively) technically, you need to be over 18 (Canada) or 21 (US) to watch porn (I could be wrong, I do know canada is 18) so in that sense, just as Kage Kazumi says, it isn't porn's fault it is the parent's fault younger people are learning incorrectly about sex and what not. And to be fair as well, it necessarily isn't the younger people not being taught correctly either. For example, in my case, I smoke, do drugs, drink, have unprotected sex, etc. But it isn't because I don't know those things are dangerous. I'd be flat out lying if I said I didn't know. I know exactly what risks I take, what the consequences may be. But i ignore them, on the philosophy that I only live once (well maybe not, but nothing is certain) and life is too short to NOT do what you want. I refuse to follow some set of socio-political standards, that in the end mean nothing. Yes, I still have morals and ethics, but when it comes to what I choose to do to myself, I think a major issue with our supposed freedom is with the government trying to control what we can and can't do to our own bodies.

Sorry got a little off-topic, but no, porn is not immoral, and should not be prohibited. Nothing good comes out of prohibition. Those who support prohibition, support organized crime. And I do enjoy some good porn every once and a while, while I also enjoy sometimes watching REALLY fucked up or ridiculous porn...but not for getting off (I swear :o) But if you wanna see something really funny, google brazilian fart porn. just saying. (NSFW, and I hope I am allowed to mention this, for those of you who have a similar sense of humour will not be disappointed)

EDIT: Congrats on the A RK :D

ALSO WHATEVER YOU GUYS DO; DO NOT LOOK UP OCTOPUS GIRL, I REPEAT DO NOT VISIT (link removed) JUST DON'T DO IT (unless you can handle shocker sites, then you should do it) BUT DO NOT VISIT IT. SRSLY.

That's kinda wrong. The age to watch porn varies in each U.S state. Some states it is 18 or 21. It is illegal to have porn in Utah.

Thank you for correcting me! I figured I wasn't exactly right (because laws vary so much per state) although I am kinda surprised it's illegal in utah...Imagine getting caught having a little wank to some porn and getting arrested... "Hey man what are you in for?" "I got caught smuggling some cocaine. What about you?" "I was beating off to illegal porn."

I mean I hope the law isn't that harsh but that would be a funny situation, no?

EDIT: I bet google is on this page atm, because of the number of people who are googling 'porn' at this very second :)

I think its ok as long as no little kids are watching it. I do watch it once in a while. I think 16 and up are ok to watch it as long as they are matture about it.

Wait, watching it is illegal??? That's a ridiculous law. Here you can't buy smokes until you're 18, but there is no legal age limit for smoking. I'd imagine its similar for porn, at least I'm certain buying it you have to be 18. You can get done for underage drinking though, which is just a slap on the wrist.

In NZ we're considered adults at 18 ;) Only thing we can't do is go to casinos, the age limit being 20. Being charged as an adult at 18 for criminal offenses but not being able to purchase alcohol until 21 seems a bit hypocritical to me.

I'm going to see if I can find the laws in NZ relating 'watching' pornography... but I really don't think there are laws on it, except on child porn.

Hmm I find that act, but it is very long and kind of complicated.

I am going to assume that it is not there. I only found what types of content are prohibited, including pornography of persons under the age of 18.

I just don't think they would make a law for a restriction on age to watch porn. Of course you have to be 18 to buy it, but who's going to stop you at home on your own computer? I could be wrong though. The act is nearly 200 sections I think.. it would take me an age to read all of it lol
