Free To Play 3 Report post Posted December 21, 2010 Why is necroposting a bad thing?
Broken Messiah 20 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Its bad because when someone makes a post of relevance today and waits for a response, a necro'ed post that may have been a year ago takes its place in stead of the new one in recent posts. Thats what I think at least.
Free To Play 3 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 But what if it's in the same boat? what if an unanswered question gets answered a year later. I dont see a problem with that.
Broken Messiah 20 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 (Unless you wrote the topic initially)chances are that person found the answer or gave up looking.
Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Yeah, your best bet is to post a new topic asking the same question. Nothing is really wrong with it. It's just one of those forum taboos now. (I think) Plus all what Broken Messiah said.
joman195 9 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 1. Your title scared me. 2. because when you necropost it takes up a slot that someone having a problem NOW.
Marked 197 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 You can necro post if it adds value to the topic, as stated in the rules. I probably wouldnt have a problem with someone necro posting in an old support topic. Its like a sub-class of spam really, coz its pointless and unnecessary. Free To Play 3 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 I meant in forums universally. Not just in this one. This one is like, the second most lenient forum I've been on. This is more of a discussing topic.
Marked 197 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 Ah i see i see. Yup we're pretty lenient, but then again we don't often need to be strict. We still act when members break the rules.
Free To Play 3 Report post Posted December 22, 2010 One of the forums I've been on actually did a trial "No Rules" thing where they left the judgement of what was offensive to the moderators and admins. It worked out pretty well.
Bigace360 38 Report post Posted December 23, 2010 I think the one of the problems is when someone post in a year old thread only to tell them good job with the script. I find that stupid as the OP had probably moved on or quit the forum by then. But noobs will find anyway to raise their post count i guess, even if when its looks stupid. :shifty:
Marked 197 Report post Posted December 25, 2010 To me it is just a spam thing, so that explains what is bad about it. We all know what spam is. The original poster thing only goes so far... what is the point of a topic, or a forum? To help people, usually. Unless its critique on the original post then the rest of the posts that follow should help visitors who are looking for that information. For example the server error in RMXP when you don't have an internet connection or something. That topic is timeless to a point, members posted their various solutions, the topic died, but it continues to get many views and it continues to help new users who get RMXP. If someone comes along and posts 'thanks, this really helped' after 1 year, its pretty pointless and more or less spam. However if they post another solution to the problem, then more members will get value from it.
