FranklinX 37 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 All of us are RPG Maker users. Some people say video games are for nerds. Do you consider yourself a nerd? I don't consider myself a nerd because I have a variety of interests that are unable to form a stereotype.
rgangsta 43 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 I don't consider myself a nerd because I have a variety of interests that are unable to form a stereotype. Sme here. But I don't think games are only for nerds. Everyone I know who don't consider themselves nerds love games. When I ask them if they would like to make a game, they look like this  Besides, look at me. Do I look like a nerd?

Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 Rgangsta is not a nerd, he is a gangsta. Idk. I think "nerd" is really a three type category of basement dweller type Pokemon This is MY logic of it. Geeks are those dudes that get all A's and go to good schools and become an Einstein. Nerds are more into Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy-sci fi RP, comic books, etc. Then there is Gamers, people who like to play games in an excessive amount. Obviously, all these types of basement dwellers can mix. Geeks can be gamers, nerds can be geeks, and gamers can be nerds. Myself, I am a pure-breed gamer. Funny thing, one time I even got shunned by other basement dwellers because I didn't fit the stereo type image of them. Fags.
Chief 30 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 I am all three, yet none at the same time. I am a huge nerd when it comes to computer stuff, but when I get off, I'm playin the drums. So, I'm a huge nerd half the time, and not at all the other half... ? I am what I am.
madanchi 18 Report post Posted January 31, 2011 (edited) nerds and geeks are completely different. Around were I live, nerds are usually classed as people who don't really have social life, no fashion sense, excessive use of computers, doesn't really look attractive in anyway. Geeks are seen as someone who is intelligent and an expert (and obsessed) in a certain subject, may it be computers, gaming, music, art, sports etc It is almost backwards thinking in present days to think gaming is for nerds as gaming has become the largest form of entertainment that is socially fashionable and is entertaining I personally class myself as a computer hardware and art geek, not a nerd though. but then i guess it bores down to each person individually if they feel confident in who they are and if they like who they are Edited January 31, 2011 by madanchi
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 I am a nerd of electronics. I wouldn't say nerd necessarily means that you like videogames, electronics, etc. To me it means you like something more than anything. EX: A person who loves to work on cars all the time for and not for a job would be considered a nerd. Or A person who likes art. If you get what im saying. LNER fan 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 Geeks are those dudes that get all A's and go to good schools and become an Einstein. Nerds are more into Dungeons and Dragons, fantasy-sci fi RP, comic books, etc. Then there is Gamers, people who like to play games in an excessive amount. I thought the first two were reversed. My defenitions: Geek: One who is very into their hobbies. Whether it be gaming, art, cars, sports, railfanning, history, or anything else. These hobbies may help them in life, but not necessarily. Nerd: One who is very intelligent and into their studies, but does poorly socially. You can be smart but not a nerd, but not the other way around. Gamer: Major subgroup of Geek. Bob423 52 Report post Posted February 1, 2011 (edited) MY definitions: Nerd: someone who has a weird obsession with something -Video game nerd: someone who likes, one of the following and rarely plays anything else: a specific series, a specific genera, or a specific company -sub categories: MMO nerd, cosplayer, stuff like that Geek: someone who knows to much about a certain subject -Computer geek: the type of people that made the computer you have, as well as your precious phone and ipod. also called computer nerd -Basement Geek: does this really need an explanation? if you are over 20 and live in your moms basement either making websites with pictures of various things or playing wow, or something like that, you are a basement geek or basement nerd, or guy who lives in his mom's basement. -misc. Geek: stereotypical nerd, always picked on at school, not very many friends, but usually good ones. Dork: a whale's penis (i did not make that up) Nerddork: someone who does very well in school, and does there best. i don't expect many people to have heard that term before, but if you have, let me know. these are NOT concrete definitions, and you only have to have a couple of the characteristics mentioned nerds and gamers are NOT the same there are also other subcategories Edited February 3, 2011 by Bob423

Marked 197 Report post Posted February 3, 2011 You like replying to Franklin, dont you? :P I think what I do is more nerdy than gaming. Nerd ignoring any definition except for how most people would perceive it. I dont like or play games. But I spend a heck of a lot of time writing PHP code, but its purely for this site. But I do not have any aspirations to become a programmer, my only goal is to improve this site for the awesome members who've been so loyal. In real life I study law and finance and soon I'll be out for good. Since I was a young kid I've been making games, but this site ironically took that from me, and now I've grown up on this site (from 15, turning 21 this year =.=) and grown out of games. Wish my successor would show up. :P

FranklinX 37 Report post Posted February 5, 2011 You don't, because I wasn't talking about you. There's not a chance in hell you'll ever like MegaMan. You're more of a Mega Man fan. That's a contradiction. You must like something to be a fan. If you dislike it something then you are not a fan.
Guest Allen Hunter Report post Posted February 6, 2011 That's a contradiction. You must like something to be a fan. If you dislike it something then you are not a fan. I like Mega Man. You like MegaMan. I see no contradiction.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted February 6, 2011 You didn't read the content of my post. You told the guy he doesn't like megaman, but he is a fan. That is a contradiction.
Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted February 6, 2011 The basic definition of a nerd would be a studious person who is socially inept. I don't qualify as either of those, so I guess I'm not a nerd in that sense. In the "computer person" sense I suppose... And do not post material that can lead to adult content please. You may discuss it in a mature manner.

Guest Allen Hunter Report post Posted February 7, 2011 You didn't read the content of my post. You told the guy he doesn't like megaman, but he is a fan. That is a contradiction. I did read your posts. You apparently didn't get the joke within the context and the way of typing his name. I typed both Mega Man and MegaMan all on purpose. No contradiction there because the former is separate and the latter is joined together. In saying that, Mega Man is the correct spelling for the franchise, not MegaMan or Megaman (the only one that is acceptable is Rockman, but that's his Japanese name). I have never seen any MM game with both words joined together (apart from the Battle Network series). Even the 9th installment clearly shows his name as Mega Man in the dialogues. Now let's drop this before the mods start warning users.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted February 7, 2011 You want it dropped to avoid a debate. MegaMan has been spelled both ways for the characters and the franchise in games.

Marked 197 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 No Franklin, I just told you I was going to close this topic if you guys kept going off topic and you both blatantly ignored my post. I think the worst part of it is that you are arguing over the spelling of a word, honestly, who cares? Topic closed.
