clone1018 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 I've been around RMXP Unlimited for quite awhile and I've noticed something. This community is evil. Now of course I'm not talking about everybody but in general we're mean. We provide criticism but we don't provide it the right way. So lets do a quick tutorial on providing nice criticism. First lets go over the format of posting nice feedback. Bold is REQUIRED. Opinion of project What I like about it What you can change Whats absolutely horrible about it So this means no more: God dude your mapping completely sucks. Is this even a game? and more: This game sounds awesome! The mapping, eventing and score are all completely awesome. But your scripting lacks. Try and recruit a scripter to work on your project (LINK TO FORUM) (Of course you'll elaborate.) Thanks for making this community better.
Chief 30 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 If the game doesnt look fun, looks poorly made, and overall is in need of major improvement, why lie about it? Sure, I get the need to be polite about it, but I'm not gonna lie and tell somebody that there game sounds awesome, when really, it sounds horrible. We';re also probably the nicest RPG Maker community on the web.
clone1018 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 I never said lie... And we're far from the nicest. Just look at ANY project on the forums.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 Can you provide an actual example of someone being rude?
Enigma 10 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 While I think going so far as saying the community is evil is a tad exaggerated, I do agree with the beleif that more constructive criticism should be practiced. Compared to other sites like rmrk and chaosproject i think rmxpunlimited is the nice guy though  We attract more new members cause we're like teh geek squad of rmxp and rmvx although rmvx.net is more specialized
Knuckles 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 How about posting topics in the right section, like the Feedback Forum for this particular thread?

Polraudio 122 Report post Posted February 8, 2011 This. Stop spamming! I see his post. you don't have to quote it and point it out. Now back on topic. I do agree with the beleif that more constructive criticism should be practiced. I would have to agree also. I do admit i was a little harsh towards bob and his FFXP topic. We should follow this template. Its a very good example.
clone1018 4 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 I could provide about 20+ examples but I do not wish to embarrass those people.
ProjectTrinity 8 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 If I'm among those people, go ahead and use me as an example. As for this site: I think this site is genuinely the better side of RPG Maker sites. I've seen sites where they rather critique your style than any technical work that needs to be done and act like their subjective views are way higher than the majority, so~ ' -'
Knuckles 1 Report post Posted February 9, 2011 In virtually every RPG Maker forum you will find replies that are less than nice on any project thread. People will speak openly and concisely their verdict on a project, and may be harsh and brutally honest about it. It's simply the way it is.
clone1018 4 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 But for 9/10 users to be assholes when they post is way too much.

Guest Allen Hunter Report post Posted February 10, 2011 Stop spamming! I see his post. you don't have to quote it and point it out. Kind sir, there is a huge difference between a one-word post and a post that has absolutely nothing to do with the thread. I quoted Knuckles for the [removed] truth! I could not have said it better. FranklinX 37 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 (edited) This forum does not have anyone being rude when giving criticism. I don't see the point of this topic. Members have nicely asked for examples, and you failed to provide examples. Edited February 10, 2011 by RATED-RKOFRANKLIN
Knuckles 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 Some examples would be nice as it would help address the problem much better. Not like you need to tag the members' quotes anyway. Just shoot out the examples!
Marked 197 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 Clone does have a point I think. Sure, I get the need to be polite about it, but I'm not gonna lie and tell somebody that there game sounds awesome, when really, it sounds horrible. I think that more than anything its the politeness that needs to be fixed. Newbies suck, we all did once upon time. If you have to say 'your project is really bad', then I think you gotta add 'Heres why and a few suggestions'.
ProjectTrinity 8 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 I dub you all too nice on the basis that none of you bashed my mapping to kingdom come. Seriously, I think I even gave you the keys to the unlocked door for that! D<
clone1018 4 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 tl;dr Watched the film though. Is it a game? Or another one of those RPG-movies? Whatever. The voice actors shouldn't try so hard at the acting. It sounds forced. And the Vespa guys (or whatever) actors accent is annoying. I wasn't insulting anyone. It's insulting to take honest criticism so personally. I.E. Don't post shit if you don't want people to talk about it. Just to name a few.
Marked 197 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 Both of those are worth a word from a mod, pretty unacceptable. To be fair though, the first one did offer something useful in there, 'it sounds forced' could be used as constructive.

Kiriashi 117 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 I think the best way to deliver high quality constructive criticism is focusing on detailing what the person can to better to improve, not pointing out the bad things. And mentioning anything that is good about the project is always a great idea because it is encouraging. There is no need to lie about something to make someone feel good. But there is no reason either to be mean about it. Think about their level with RMXP, and judge based on that. A game that's terrible for someone who has been RMXPing for two years could be really good for someone who just started.
Knuckles 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2011 Just to name a few. My thoughts: Watched the film though. Is it a game? Or another one of those RPG-movies? He simply asked a basic question. Nothing rude so far. Whatever. The voice actors shouldn't try so hard at the acting. It sounds forced. And the Vespa guys (or whatever) actors accent is annoying. Here, the member criticizes the game's voice acting. He addressed a quirk and stated it sounds forced. He also finds the accent annoying. How is this evil? Onto the second quote (the bottom portion): I.E. Don't post shit if you don't want people to talk about it. The word shit refers to stuff. I.E. Don't post stuff if you don't want people to talk about it. He isn't tossing the game away as a shitty game. And he has a point. If you don't want people expressing a negative opinion toward your stuff, be it a game or a web site/forum, don't even bother posting it. Simple as that. Then again this is in an opinion. I agree, he could have done away with using "shit" as a word.

I find it hard to disagree with you most of the time. ^.^" Pretty much all of that is just criticism, though a little harsh. However that last one is a bit too far. Though it may be that the word "shit" was used as a replacement for stuff, which would make sense in that context if you think about, but thats going to far. And its way to easy to take offense from that. Had I seen that I would have gotten angry.

As said before he could have done away with his wording. However if the game artist takes offense to something (that wasn't intended to be offensive) that is simply his/her problem, regardless of how easy it is. To add to this post, the member was irritated his criticism was taken on a personal-level so it is no real surprise his reply was worded in a rather harsh nature. It is annoying when you point out the quirks and the artist takes offense about it. Edited February 10, 2011 by Knuckles
