My avatar was removed by a mod.

The piss poor moderator Polraudio removed my avatar a few days ago. It was a mugshot of James Earl Ray, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s murderer. He told me he doesn't want to see it on here. However I find that very rude! Because I study history a lot. Especially murder cases. I look up historical murderers like Charles Manson, Lizzy Borden, Jack the Ripper, and many others. I do not understand why my avatar was removed? There was no racism or nudity. Just a mugshot of the man. I go on other forums and see Hitler photos everywhere. I am wrong for putting up a mugshot of the man who killed MLK? I put it up because I find that not many people care enough to research further into history. Who they were and what/why they did! People like Polraudio can be so ignorant of history. I believe in a thing called freedom of speech. I am not trying to offend anyone. However, many will take insult. I am not happy that a piss poor moderator is trying to control my freedom of choice. Again like I said there was no nudity or racism! Just a mugshot. If a mugshot offends anyone then that is dumb.

I understand the points that you are trying to make about your freedom to choose and your freedom of speech, but some people do take offence to your avatar, and therefore a moderator has removed it thusly. Please note that the constitutional right to the freedom of speech and expression only applies to the US, outside the USA there is no defined freedom of speech or freedom of expression. This website is technically hosted in Germany, so it does not follow the constitutional law of the US. I apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused you.

As Isaac stated it is of course understandable why you would want to use that avatar to express yourself without the intention of harm towards anyone else. But everyone sees things differently. You don't have to get mad at Polraudio, he's only trying to keep the peace.

Nowhere found in this site's rules against avatars your peers simply don't like. From my understanding, even the administration was okay with the choice avatar the whole time he used it (which was quite awhile).

Well this side of the administration had no idea how that was, even if I did I wouldn't care though. We don't learn much about US history aside from the world wars we were involved in.

 

Anywho, I don't think it matters too much Allen Hunter because I feel like I am warning every day for the posts you're making. You're getting warned for your post. Isn't there an ignore feature on this web forum? You could always add members with offensive avatars/signatures to the list and you won't be able to even see their posts, let alone the avatar.

EDIT: That post you quoted was directed toward the members (that find avatars offensive) as a simple suggestion. Nothing to do with moderation.

Haha, I have to apologize for that part of my post. I have no idea what I was thinking :sweatdrop: I believe I thought you said something that I read in allen hunters post. Something related to the rules, but oh well. Sorry about that.

 

Speaking of the quote I posted, yes there is that option in the settings and also guests cannot see avatars and signatures. However I do not have an issue with mods removing content that is potentially offensive to other members. If a mod removes something that offends only him, then he is in the wrong. But acting in the interests of all members, there should be no reason why a mod shouldnt be able to remove that content.

 

I think this issue should be discussed with the member in question and staff members rather than on the forums.

I found the post a tad predictable. Some people just don't fit in, y'know? You get warned for flaming, and then get offended by it? We would take the removing of the avatar seriously, as there is a good case for discussion, but honestly, could you have gone about it a worse way? It makes me think, are you being absolutely serious? Or just purposely starting something (aka, trolling).

It's a shame you feel that you have to do it via PM. I agree, it is their problem. Issues with individuals, and staff especially, should be sent to me via PM and I very much so encourage them as opposed to ignoring them. The staff should not been seen as one tyrant unit.

I must say, us (the staff) or at least myself in particular are not entirely familiar with the disciplinary side of things on the forums. In years gone by we've had very very few who caused us problems. We created a culture that was friendly and welcoming, and now I think we've lost it.

Look man, on this site, we (the staff) try as hard as we can (though it seems like we aren't doing a very good job lately) to keep things cheerful. People fighting isn't something we want, so whenever the occasion arises where we see something that might cause a fight, we try to eradicate it.

 

Every time Mark has warned you has been for good reason: either for directly breaking the rules or posting something that is not suitable for the site. We're not picking on you mean, really. I love to have more people on the site to talk to and share conversations with. And I apologize if you feel that we have not delivered a good community. I can own up to being wrong, or biased or whatever else it is that causes you to have no respect in me or the rest of the staff. But I'd like you to tell me what that is. And in a mature way. (I'm not calling you immature, I'm just saying we need to act like adults if we want to make any sort of peace)

 

You asked Marked why he warned you voicing your opinion. That is not what he did at all. He warned you for flaming; simple as that. He doesn't like warning people or being the big bad mean mr. admin, none of us do. Its our job to keep this place free of stuff like that. There isn't an excuse for breaking a rule. How can you disrespect Mark for enforcing the rules?

 

Isaac is a very likable person, so naturally you'd have respect for him. But to say he's the only person on the staff you respect in a way like that is quite offensive to the staff. Yes, you have your opinion, and there is nothing unfair about that. But like I mentioned earlier, there's no excuse for breaking a rule.

 

As for the flame war last year and that topic: What about it? That was something that ended very well believe it or not. We all learned something. And the user Knuckles is one of my favorite users, because he really wanted to help the site, and because he is so mature about the way he provided feedback, and pretty much everything else he posts. Way more than some of the rest of us. Including myself.

 

I'm not even going to go over daring Marked to ban you. Surely you can see that that's a bit silly. Marked doesn't want to ban you. He wants you and everyone else on the forums to be nice. Your posts are all very well written no matter what the content, so you are a valuable member to us.

 

I know that I value free speech almost more than anything. Its why I love being a citizen of the United States. But RMXP Unlimited is not the U.S. It doesn't go by our constitution or by our laws, views or morals. It goes by Marked.

 

If Marked were to ban you, it wouldn't be because he doesn't value free speech. It would be because he feels that you cause a problem here, or some other reason.

 

I sure do hope we can resolve this issue as it hurts me that you don't have respect for the staff and this site as a whole.

I see your side of the argument Allen, but even if not much people realise what your avater was doesn't mean there isn't someone in here that does. and even if you don't mean it to offend which i know you didin't, it doesn't matter as it still might have offend. I know this is a little different equivelant but it's similar to if I had a swastika avatar (or the hinduism swastika symbol), I wouldn't mean offence because it originally meant peace in japan or india (one of those places) BUT I would simply have it as a historical symbol of the past, the past can never be forgotten, but it would obviously be removed because it is derogative and offends many people
