Activation Woes

Question

Hello. Sorry to be a bother, but I tried to download the RMXP trial version yesterday and everything was fine up until I got to where it asks for the activation key.

It would not stop trying to connect to the server. I let it go for four hours and it just stayed on the loading screen - there wasn't even an error message. I tried to leave it until today just in case there was a problem on their side, but it's still doing it.

Things I've already done:

- I've made sure I'm connected to the internet

- I use Firefox and NoScript and I thought that might have been a problem, so I tried it again while globally allowing scripts. No luck.

- Uninstalled and reinstalled the trial version

I was wondering if this might have something to do with the problems over in Japan right now, but I was looking around trying to see if I could find some way to fix it myself before needing to ask for help and I've seen people having this problem even before that. Not saying it couldn't be, but I'm wondering if there's something I can do.

Thank you very much.

The browsers you use (and addons) are not important. What operating system do you use? Have you tried running as an Administrator with compatibility set to WinXP SP2/3?

While the program is running, fire up a command prompt (Start -> Run -> type "cmd" -> press Enter) and type in "netstat -a"

See if there are any extra IP addresses/Domains listed. Is it even trying to connect to Enterbrain's server? If you don't know how to read netstat, post your results here and I will look over the info for you!

That's a strange error... Hopefully someone here has had a similar experience. In case its this error and just not saying so, try reading this topic on the off chance its relevant: http://www.rmxpunlim...-serial-number/

I looked there before posting and there wasn't anything that helped me. Thank you for your response, though!

I mentioned the browser/add-ons because it's caused me problems before when trying to install something that needed an internet connection, that's all. And I use Windows XP.

Thank you for your help. I tried what you said, and it doesn't look like it's even trying to connect to the server. Whee.

I can provide you with registry keys that will trick your software into thinking that the trial period is over. I could also provide you with a file that effectively "activates" the full version on your machine. I however do not know how Marked feels about piracy, and have no way of enforcing you to purchase the software at the end of 30 days...I'll leave this one up to Marked.

Besides the above, my searches through the depths of the interweb returned nothing. Not even Protexis could help me out, sorry!

I am strongly against it. But if it happened in PM, did it really happen at all? That's something to think about.

Which version of RMXP are you using, 1.02a or 1.04

1.04 trial version, I'm pretty sure.

Marked, Descendant

Thanks for your help. I'm going to keep fiddling around with it and see if I can get it working.

Strange, if you were using 1.02, I would have said that you were using a version no longer supported by their licensing servers. I will look into it and post anything I find out for you.

Just as a random suggestion... try turning off your firewall/any anti-virus software you have running temporarily.

I heard that can affect it?
