Engine Popularity: XP versus VX

Recommended Posts

@isaacsol: Your japanese skills will come in handy :P Eventually we'll need to approach them.

@RKO: Requesting of features is going to be an issue. What is imperative in getting attention and achieving success here is professionalism. Therefore I think there is no place for a list of features to officially be in this petition. There are several reasons for that. If you want me to explain fully I'll be happy to do so. But in the end I dont think its even proper petition etiquette.

However, as we do plan to show this enterbrain depending on its success, comments are possible and this is a way of communicating those desired features. Furthermore, we could do it properly: compile a list of desired features and then create a poll to get the most wanted features, and then its possible to give that information to enterbrain as a side not to the petition.

Ok, I got 100% on that quiz I was talking about so I started writing up the component. Mainly just a little design and no real coding has yet gone into it, but here's what I got so far. Writing isn't my strong point, so advice on the text is strongly desired!

There will also be the number of signatures there in nice large text, and our goal (I'm going for 100,000). Lets make userbars for our sigs (RGangsta, I nominate you for this :P) and spread it around the internet :D

I would sign, and get people to sign (even though the people who I would make sign probably never even hear of rpg maker let alone used it heeeheehehee) And I think what everyone is saying is exactly what needs to be done, like XP + VX ++++++

I really liked how vx organized the scripts and a few tidbits...but otherwise it felt very gimped.

What would be cool (probably a far stretch, and highly unlikely) is a more customizable database, like it can be modified...Maybe the ability to add stats, add your own pages to the database or something would be really cool. Because the main part of RMXP that I love is the visual map and database, etc. It makes your project so much easier to organize, but whenever I script extra stats or parts to say the party or characters, I have to organize it within the script editor and it can get messy (especially if I haven't had much sleep)

I wonder if there would be a practical way to implement something like that...probably not but I can dream!

I just checked out RPGToolkit, I had heard about it in the past, but never really took a good look at it (probably mostly cause my programming skills were almost non-existant) But it looks like a rpg maker with a java-ish language, maybe once I unbury myself from the ridiculous amount of projects I have decided to take on (the funny thing is that it is the only way I can stay motivated haha), I will check it out.

I agree. They need to make a new one. As an eventer, I enjoyed RMPXP, there were still a few problems. RMVX, however was just plain dissapoint. My own personal taste. They need to make it so that you can 'tag' events with certain functions so that the same event, for example, well follow you from map to map. Without the use of more than one event. It kind of gets stupid when you try to make a multi-map stalker, and they enter the map from a totally different way than you. But, thats just me. And it needs layer mapping, isometric mapping, and multiple map sets.

One thing that i think needs to be added is the ability to change altitude with the airship.

I don't mind amending what I wrote before, or translating other bits (like the comments in the petition).

I think this topic has already become the features topic... :pinch:

Ok, we're ready to start collection signatures. One thing to note is that I don't really want to advertise this or spread it around just yet. I think we should get the ball rolling with a couple of signatures first. You guys kinda didn't give me any feedback on it (so I take it you're happy with it?) but I want it to be professional looking before we campaign it :P

@isaac: I think translating the comments is way too much work lol. At the moment we're not communicating to enterbrain, we're collecting signatures from the English RPG Maker community so I didn't include your message, but wasn't that going to be the email we end up sending? Anyway, if you would like to translate what I've written, or change what I've written (as I said, writing isn't my strong suite) then lets do that :)

Also guys, we can change the page up any way we want at any time. What's important is that we record signatures in the database.

Mark, here is what I roughly sketched out, will have it checked over by a Japanese friend to make sure that it is grammatically (and honorifically) correct asap:

エンターブレイン会社へ、

私たちは、エンターブレインのソフトのカスタマーが、RPGツクールVXの続編を作ってお願いします。
人によって事由が異なるけど、RPGツクールXPとVXが利害得失があって自他共に許しので、
RPGツクールの開発者が離しています。だから、私たちは新しくて優良なRPGツクールを作ってお願いします。

Translation:

To Enterbrain Inc.,

We, the customers of your software, are politely requesting you to make a sequel to RPG Maker VX.
The reasons vary from person to person, but it is generally accepted that there are pros and cons
RPG Maker XP and VX, which divides RPG Maker developers. Therefore, we politely request that you
make a new and superior/better RPG Maker.

Would it be bad practice to attempt to resign over a proxy ip :) haha j/k the effort in finding a good proxy that works is too much work in itself (although if no one finds this to be bad practice maybe I will put that effort forward :shifty: )
