Improvements =]

Question

Hello! So i've just finished the basic outline of my opening cutscene (woo!) but i can't really think of a way i can develop it! (boo!) so here it is:

Youtube Video ->Original Video

Please take a look, and reply with some improvements.

I know, the mappings boxy, but i'm really bad with caves and stuff. The annotations don't go away/come up in time, first time using Camtasia. And there are some spelling and eventing errors (mainly with UMS boxes, but thats because i missed a command out). But anything else? Tips on mapping or scripts (as in the dialogue) are welcome. Music too! (the current BGM is Joe Hisaishi btw, A Road To Somewhere from the Spirited Away soundtrack.)

Thankks

Doesn't look too bad so far, as you said the caves are too blocky, think nature, its random and caves are created over long periods of erosion, etc. Best thing I can think of is to check out these maps (Made by Leon, I assume no credit for them.) Cave Mapz

I think you should let the player choose the time limit when they enter the doorway. Besides that, it's really good.

Thank you for the caves mapping thingy (: i've changed the tileset to the Earth Cave and it looks way better now, although I have kept it slightly blocky on purpose since I plan to revisit that cave later on and say that it was carved out by people xD

And with regards to the time limit, I did think of doing it like that, but I have things that depend on it being where it is atm (to make the time spent on that map slightly longer). But thanks for the suggestion!

I do still think the script is a little weak and could do with alot of improvement, so if anyone has any ideas they would be appreciated! :D

Hey no problem! I figured it may be perfect, because I just saw those map examples recently myself (they are actually back from 2007/9 or something) and found it perfect since you were showing off your caves :) As for the script, it actually doesn't seem to bad...The way I like to look at writing dialogue is by imagining these people are real and how they would actually interact with each other.

Well I've just put up a project post with the whole storyline and some screenshots of the *new!* (woo!) cave :P

I'm still pondering weather to attempt some voice acting :D

to be perfectly honest, even if you had an amazing cast of voice actors, (to me anyways) voice acting + 2d games just do not mix properly. it can easily get confusing...and to me it just doesn't feel right. plus I can read a hella lot faster than any voice actor can act out, so in general I usually opt out of the voice acting. I mean, if you wanna take a stab at it, don't let me stop you, but it may be a good idea to put an option for no voice acting as well.
