FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 13, 2011 I am interested in making my own website. However, I want an IP board like this one. Does anyone know of any web hosters who offer IP board in their package?
Blackbound 4 Report post Posted May 13, 2011 What sort of web-based hosting do you need?
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted May 13, 2011 no free hosts have IPB for free. Most people i see use http://www.servage.net or http://www.godaddy.com/ You will have to buy a license for IPB. IPB is $149.99. Yea costs a lot for it. not sure if that includes updates and if you have to renew it every so often. Marked would know more. I would still suggest using the free SMF. Not sure what the other free one was. Web hosting is generally cheep but you need to know what your doing to run a site. I would suggest starting off with messing around on a free hosting to get use to it.

FranklinX 37 Report post Posted May 13, 2011 Hi and thanks. I have many questions Is the main page apart of the IP Board program? How hard is it to make a forum layout? If I buy an IP board do I also need to buy a web domain? Thanks
Marked 197 Report post Posted May 13, 2011 Those aren't actually hosting questions. Here's how it goes. You buy and IP.Board license and then download the software. You the upload it via FTP or the file manager in your host (you will figure this out when the time comes). You will then create a MySQL database. Then you run the installer by accessing the installation URL in your browser (this in the IP.Board instructions) and after that is done, you will have a nice fresh IP.Board ready to go. You create your account during the installation process, so you simply login and away you go. Is the main page apart of the IP.Board program? Depends. If you upload the files to the root directory then yes. Here, we've uploaded it to /forums so we can have a website, accessible by the base url. How hard is it to make a forum layout? Pretty easy. I'd post a screenshot, but you can do this all within the ACP in your browser. You will however want some way of getting your colors in the format #000000 for the CSS. If you know HTML and CSS, its really easy. If you're doing a major overall of the HTML, then theres a dev trick available to you which I'm currently using for my new theme. If I buy an IP board do I also need to buy a web domain? Nope. You can use it on ANY host with MySQL and file uploads. We started out using IP.Board on free hosting and no domain name. 1 isaacsol reacted to this
