Noob Saibot 38 Report post Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) So I came across this game called 7 Stories made by a 'company' called Smashware. What makes this game catch my eye is that it is an iTunes App/Game, but it is using RPG Maker XP graphics. This game is being sold on iTunes for a little over $2.00, but according to the reviews it is a short game (you can beat it with your character at level 9). Now I know Enterbrain has not created a software to port RMXP/RMVX games to the iTunes market. So either these people (Smashware) did it themselves or they illegally used RMXP graphics in another game making software. 1) http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/7-stories/id434154503?mt=8 2) http://www.appolicious.com/games/apps/673600-7-stories-smashware/developer_notes 3) http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=94119 Edited May 25, 2011 by Kage Kazumi
Midnite Reaper 2 Report post Posted May 25, 2011 (edited) It uses a sprite almost exactly like one from Final Fantasy 4 as well. Rydia's. Seeing as it's being sold commercially, I reckon there are multiple parts to this which should have it pulled from the store. EDIT Or I can just post them: To show a few. Edited May 25, 2011 by Kage Kazumi
Polraudio 122 Report post Posted May 25, 2011 Seen that on the app store a few times and thought they ported it some how :shok: . Very interesting tho. Wonder what they used. If you buy RMXP/RMVX dont you technically buy the graphics too and are able to use them as you wish with anything or is it just with their maker?

According to the License agreement you can not use the graphics in another game making software (which also includes programing the game from scratch your self. Are you referring to this game: http://www.srrngames.com/?page_id=101 it looks like RMVX Graphics, but I can't confirm as I don't own RMVX.

kellessdee 48 Report post Posted May 26, 2011 they probably don't know... As for ash and 7 stories, both games fail to credit enterbrain ANYWHERE for the graphics, and it seems most places reviewing the games do not even realize where the graphics are from. I couldn't find much in terms of 7 stories, and I don't mean to go off topic but I just wanted to point this out: Only 3/28 Ash reviews even mentioned rpg maker, but 1 of them implied that the creators MADE the graphics and that they were "similar" to rpg maker. SRRN Games really makes a gamble with an aesthetic that can only inspire comparison to the oft-maligned RPG Maker development suite http://ifanzine.com/ash-review Another review claims that the graphics have been licensed from enterbrain Practically all of the graphical assets in the game were licensed and used from Enterbrain’s RPG Maker VX suite http://gaming.icrontic.com/reviews/ash-for-iphone-review-a-shining-example-of-a-retro-16bit-styled-jrpg/ I am curious to know where they acquired that information. I wonder what will happen if enterbrain finds out about these...more specifically for 7 stories (considering it is currently hosted on the itunes market) I am assuming apple can't get into any legal trouble here... This is kind of upsetting though' date=' I can't understand why people think they can make a game using others people's graphics (and I don't mean things like if they have a artist creating custom graphics FOR the game) AND sell it. IMO, if you really want to make money off of a game it should be 100% original work. Otherwise, if you can't find a dedicated artist who is willing to make graphics for some profit from a game, either A) you didn't try hard enough or B) any people who has seen the game idea doesn't think it will sell enough to be worth helping. Which probably means your game idea isn't good enough to make money from or C) you should just make the game for fun/free. Maybe I am just a picky gamer, but it takes me a lot of research before I pay for any game. I would never buy a game if there is a completely free game that is better. (and I am not referring to pirating it, IMO if I wouldn't even think of buying it why would I waste hard drive space on a game I won't play) [/rant']
