How to Start a Game?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. When I'm not working on Calathandias, I have a side-project to work on when I'm not home, using my other computer. The side project is called Black Quest, basically a tribute to all classic RPG's with a twist of mystery/suspense. I'm having an issue of where to start in the game. I have everything I need(Resource and story wise) but I don't know what to do now. Should I start off with like an intro, kind of introducing some characters? But I don't want to do that because it is kind of cliche and dull, and I don't really want to introduce characters from the start as it is a mystery/suspense game. I can give you a brief plot summary to help me with :

STORY

The game follows Felix, a tormented teenager with a dark past. Felix has seen several doctors and all of them have diagnosed him as untreatable.

Felix knows why he's different though, he has powers. Powers passed on from an ancient stone which Felix wears as a necklace around his neck.

As long as he is with the stone, Felix is pretty much unstoppable. But, an evil alliance of archaeologists have formed to find the stone, each man

blood lust for the power it holds. In the game, will you choose to use his stone for good or.. Evil...?

What I do know: I want to start off with a cut scene, of what though? Maybe a chase scene with Felix and the archaeologists? But don't you think that would be to fast paced and automatically sends you in the game? I want the story to unfold slowly. Help me, I'm having serious developer block.

Thanks. ^.^ Eco

You could start the game with Felix telling the story himself, and make it like hes introducing what's about to happen etc. With this kind of opening it will give you the option to unveil stuff at your own pace
