For about a year now, I have been reading "The Wheel of Time" series written by Robert Jordan. That is part of the subject of this topic. I want to make a game based on EVERY SINGLE novel in the series. I beleive that this is more the game I have always wanted to make.

Reasoning:

-pre-organised

-reading the series

-easy enough to not make me lose interest

-hard enough to keep interest

i just want some feedback on the possible difficulties of making games, each based on one of the up to 13(might be more) books. It will take a lot of work, and I'll probably need help. I'm not that good of a mapper, and I may need custom scripts. I plan on working on this project when not working on the forum project or with solshadow and the zombie project.

Feedback on Idea?

I've never heard of it, and I haven't checked out that wiki yet...

..But the idea of making a game out of a book is awesome. I wish you luck. :3

This would require a lot of work. I haven't read the books yet, but to work games on books would be dreadfully tedious. You would need a large team, large amounts of resources, costume and no, music (unless you use RTP) and someone who works in the style of the tongue (Knightly and stuff) the book uses, if it does.

I think it would be neat, but really hard.

i know enough about Old English to mime it; movies, books, and my dad taught me.

the book series has it's OWN soundtrack.

the maps should be fine without custom stuff.

character-sets... that would be hard...

scripts = easy.

but you still have a point, seeing as it will be tedious goings, and only 12 of the 14 (I know this for sure) books have come out. but I'm sure could get some help with some of the stuff.

This is not as hard has it sounds; or complicated. I have read some of the books in the series and it could make a nice game. However this also requires characters splitting story wise as well. People did this with George R R Martin's "A song of Ice and Fire," series.

do you mean that the characters won't really ALL be in the same party at the same time? yeah, I know this. one of the main reasons I'm making this game is because a LOT of people can't really read the first book, so instead, they can play the game. but I will end up leaving out a few things... :shifty: Im hoping that if the first one goes well, that I can make the ENTIRE 14 book series. -_- i better get "Most Time-Consuming Project Made" award... :ermm:

On a side note, this isn't really going to be a fan game. if it were to be considered a fan game, it would need it's own plotline. and if it were a remake, then it would need a game before it. im the first person to try this, I think. im hoping I will be successful.

*Game of Thrones :33*

The book series has a soundtrack? Well if you have energy and time then, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. :D

oh, I do. been working on it since a little after I posted this topic. making facesets and sprites. it'll be for XP though, but I plan on using the AMS by Deubleux. and yes! it does. the soundtrack is a mixture of olden instrumnts plus electric guitar and a drum set! it's pretty epic.

It's still would be considered a fan game because fan games don't need their own plot/storyline to be called one. Ask any veteran hobbyist game maker.
