shaggy91 0 Report post Posted July 8, 2011 I've been pondering on the subject of the "UK Government" planning on raising the price of alcohol. To be honest I personally don't like the idea because it means I either have to work more hours than my contracted 10 hours at work (although I am at college which takes up time with my other half, friends, band and other social/hobby related activities) or just not go out as much (which is like once every 2 weeks anyway) which I don't believe is very fair. but on the other hand it does stop all the idiots who go out every Friday and Saturday get absolutely hammered and start fights. I was wondering what was other peoples thoughts on this subject?

Polraudio 122 Report post Posted July 8, 2011 Wow that sucks. Idea! Buy as much as you can now and sell it for a little bit cheaper than the raised price later. Profit?
isaacsol 10 Report post Posted July 8, 2011 Why is the UK raising the price? Because the Tories are trying to find ways to cut spending and gain more through taxes.
FranklinX 37 Report post Posted July 8, 2011 Because the Tories are trying to find ways to cut spending and gain more through taxes. Why not tax corporations? The US has lost hundreds of billions of dollars from corporations who have not paid their taxes. Does the UK give the rich tax cuts like the US?
Marked 197 Report post Posted July 9, 2011 Does the UK give the rich tax cuts like the US? Sick, isn't it? I don't see the big deal about this, how much alcohol do you need? Perhaps its more than an extra source of income for the government and they're taxing a harmful good. Raising tax on alcohol deters younger drinkers who may not be able to afford it. It's not like they're going to make it completely unobtainable anyways.
shaggy91 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2011 I know what you mean marked but its not just alcohol that's getting raised my local petrol station is £1.35 a litre or around there so that's like £40 to fill up my car should of really changed the name of the topic title aha. I just think the government is getting a bit excessive on tax. Its become a case of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer while every one else in the middle go towards the latter aha
Marked 197 Report post Posted July 9, 2011 Ah I see. Yeah I saw this topic as simply the increase in tax on alcohol. In terms of the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, taxes on goods probably doesn't come into it too much. I'm a bcom student but speaking mainly through what I think, so I could be wrong. Taxes on alcohol and petrol affect everyone so its difficult for the rich to make money on. Things like tax cuts to the rich on the other hand for the supposed 'trickle down' theory is just bullshit and morally wrong. Though morals in governments is a joke also, some more so than others. The price of petrol is probably related to those rich scum. When the price per barrel falls and yet the prices at the pump stay high, then where's the extra revenue going? Last year when I lost my ride to uni coz of quakes, I was spending like $60NZD a week and that's pretty high...take my word for it :P Perhaps the alcohol and petrol taxes are related to economical issues? From what I hear, your university costs skyrocketed? Now that's something to do a Greece (rioting) over.

Does the UK give the rich tax cuts like the US? The Tories (Conservatives) are basically in for the middle and upper classes, if you are working class, you will be detrimentally affected by their policies. If you are rich on the other hand, you will be positively affected. Sod's law.
