Capturing software...

Recommended Posts

Eh, I'll post here...cause posting on the site where the device comes from...I get no help, lol. Anyways, I have my Wii hooked up to my computer via a capture device called Dazzle. Main reason is so I can play in my room without having to buy a TV, lol. It runs perfectly fine, and very little to no lag (unless my computer is doing something, but its still very subtle). Now then, here it comes, when I try to actually record gameplay with some software, it runs smoothly for about 5 minutes...at that point the display starts lagging TREMENDOUSLY, to the point where the game isn't even playable. I've no clue why that is...apparently no one knows either. Anyways I figured I'll ask around here, I'm sure I'll get better help than what I got on that support forum. >_>

I'll post device info in a bit...

Sounds like a RAM issue maybe. Thats because when its recording its putting it into RAM. when you are done recording it dumps the RAM to a file and creates your video file.

How much RAM do you have?

Could be it....it lists 3 GB usable. (I'm guessing because I have 32-bit, and my dad said it limits the amount that can be used)

32bit OS's can use up to 4gb of ram and 64bit can use up to i think 128gb

you have 3-4gb of ram from what i see. that should be plenty. The issue could be your video ram or processor. Its hard to tell without being there. I highly doubt its your hard drive unless you are running out of space. if you can try to open task manager open on your computer and see whats getting used the most while recording.

EDIT: yea from what i see you will need to upgrade your GPU. Unless the video capture device is not that good for recording.

Likely it is a RAM issue, but it could also be an incompatibility issue with the the way the game graphics are rendered. Many screen capture programs have issues with DirectX, OpenGL, etc.

I personally use Camtasia, and do not have issues, but my PC is also a bit of a powerhouse, so its hard to say.

...I didn't think video graphic cards would be an issue, since its simply displaying an image of some sort from a different source. (my Wii)

But what Pol said about RAM and all that kinda makes sense when trying to record, since I didn't really understand how the whole recording deal worked, lol.

EDIT: Wait a minute you're the guy with the creepy pedo bear avatar! xD

I have a dazzle also and yes you do need atleast 3 gb of ram unless you change down the quality. heres a video of me recording it on good detail and best..

.Vid one was recorded on a crappy labtop and it only have like 1gb of ram so you should be able to record if you have atleast 1gb of ram. Also the vid 2 was recorded on my friends pc and i believe he only has 2 or 3gb of ram il get back to you on that though :P

*edit*

also do you have everything installed for it? you can record in pinnacle studios also.

heres a link to there download page :P

The version I have doesn't work with Windows 7 very well....only thing I can get working on here is AM CAP. (which is what I use to just play video games in general, lol)

It does, but the version that comes with this Dazzle doesn't work well with Windows 7, and basically all I can do with AM CAP is "preview" the recording. (which is what I use to play the Wii on the computer anyway, lol) and software I have tried before all works perfectly with recording until about 10 minutes until it starts lagging tremendously.

I suggest if your trying to to a speedrun, do it segmented lol. or just record in parts til you get more ram :S

Eh, I'm probably not going to bother anymore right now...would be hard to do it in parts with a game like Monster Hunter anyway, especially when its online and you can't pause it.

Found out about some online streaming thing for your computer, so I'm gonna try that out with my Wii at some point. Whenever I get the Wii back in here on my computer. xD

some live streams let you save the video aftwerwards too so that can basically be your recording

I think it only let's you record it while streaming...or just record it...so I haven't messed with that part yet. I assumed it will just end up doing the same thing, so I never bothered with it yet. But yeah, I have my on streaming channel now. xD
