How do you make characters', items', and weapons' names?

Names are always important. The player is able to remember characters by their names. How do you make names for your characters', items' and weapons'?

 

I normally name characters after people who I know. It's easier and a bit of fun. :)

I sometimes do that or take elements from series (if the game i'm making has basis form a series) or use what comes to inspiration.
