3DS Price cut

Recommended Posts

Okay, in April, i think it was, the 3DS was released with, what many say was both a poor selection of games (save OoT) and heavy price tag. Well, because of this, the 3DS is getting a massive price cut.

Now, as the articles outline, if you already bought the system, don't panic! You will be getting like, 20 free games. Interesting news, to be sure. It seems like a desperate act. I mean, i want to see Nintendo succeed more than any other game maker... but here lately, they seem to be slipping from the top-slot.

I didn't mind the price really. (since I got two of them for the price of one anyways. xD) But yeah the 3DS did have a crappy start, I miss Yoshi's Island, can't wait for them to release the GBA version. (kinda wish the Wii could emulate the SNES one, but oh well)

This is big news. Are these GBA games going to be in cartilages?

Digital downloads, FREE...digital downloads. (apparently they're not going to release them normally anytime soon either, so...yeah)

I heard this in the radio. i heard that nintendo is giving the 3DS users a Loyalty program (which is 20 games)

Also this is very smart of nintendo because Sony is gonna have less sells on their new PSVITA system. but the PSVITA could have more games then the 3DS. btw the 3DS sucks. it's not even 3D needs more work.

Like Polraudio said, give 3D gaming 5 or 7 years, nintendo hasn't perfected it.

even though nintendo is getting there.

Also Nintendo doesn't really have Exclusive handheld developers.

and Don't go that gamefreak, they only develope Pokemon for god sake.

If nintendo could just hire People for their Indie games (like US) they wouldn't have these problems.

I think the games look worse with the 3d on, but when I turn it off they look good, so if I ever get a 3ds I would keep the 3d off. I played some games at Wondercon and Gamestop stores, and the 3d is unimpressive and kinda hurts my eyes. I know that sounds counterproductive (What? Buying a 3ds and keeping the 3d OFF?) but there are other features of the system that I'm interested in, plus certain DS games will control better with the joystick they have now.

Nintendo has been working and testing no-glasses 3d since 2001 with the gamecube and gba sp, but limitations prevented them at the time. To be honest I kinda don't want the 3d to prosper, because to be honest I hate this new 3d craze that the media and entertainment is spewing out. These days EVERYTHING has to be in 3d -_- now they have 4d for some things. 4d. as in smellivision. w.t.f. But I digress....

No matter what, though, Nintendo will always be on top in the handheld market because they actually GET the concept of handheld gaming. Handhelds are systems on the go that have games that are like pick up and play for maybe about 30 minutes or so on a car ride, train, bus, etc, then put it down. Others like Sony try to put console games on a handheld, trying to give the console experience on the go. When they started with the PSP these 'handheld console' games controlled like crap because of the one joystick on the PSP, as the reduced number of shoulder buttons on the system. They couldn't really deliver console gaming on a handheld then. Now they have the Vita, which has like two joysticks and touch screen features and stuff like that. We'll just have to see how the Vita holds and how the games are. It won't matter if the Vita has more games than the 3ds if the games don't control well or aren't any fun. the same can be said for 3ds games too. I can name a few ds games that control like jank, but every system has games like that. This isn't the first time, though. the ds had a rocky start too, and the psp had a barren selection when it came out (save for GTA:LCS). I had a psp first....the original but it finally died this year, I got a Dsi last year. Tbh, I think that the psp library for games is still pretty small, compared to the ds, even though some ds games are just shovelware.

But sorry for the rant-thing, OT: The decrease in price will no doubt increase sales, but it will also make Nintendo lose money in the process. But the price sounds more consumer friendly, at least good news for me lol.

This makes it so much easier for people who can't afford 299+ dollars into a system, especially a handheld!

It makes it possible for me to get one, that's for sure! lol

Yes, I agree with this 1000% (extra 0 is not a typo.) Not to mention 3D is complete misnomer; The CORRECT TERM(s) would be Anaglyphics or Stereoscopics. I always laugh when I hear 3D gaming...haven't we had 3d gaming since the playstation one? (and if you wanna get technical, 3D gaming has been around even longer, if you count the old doom/wolfenstein 3d games/etc...)

And WTH about the 4D are you sure? 4D either refers to abstract mathematical concepts, which is derived from the generalization of 3D space; or 4D could refer to Spacetime (a concept for the dimension we supposedly exist in) which is based upon X, Y, Depth (or Z) and the 4th dimension being time, which acts differently than the other 3 dimensions....

---While typing that I googled this 4D you were talking about... the nerd in me is getting furious, the theatres are including external special effects (like within the theater; water spray, smoke, scents (like you said), etc..) and are apparently being called as different Dimensions (some 4D, some 5D, and even 6D and 7D apparently) RAGE. they should just call all of it "XD" and trash the concepts. I'd rather see research being poured into virtual reality or something cool.

WHOA. Just realized HOW off-topic i just got there. Sorry everyone :(

Anyways, this is awesome, I REALLY REALLY want a 3DS. Like UrHappy said, there are ALOT of cool features to make it worth while; although 3D was supposed to be the selling point (since suddenly 3D is popular again, despite everyone in the past thinking it was just silly kids stuff) there are a lot of sweet things that make it an awesome handheld. Plus, if you leave it in standby, and walk around with the 3ds you gather points for every certain amount of steps; which you can use to purchase stuff from nintendo.

Gamefreak is actually second party, they developed games for PC-Engine, Sega Mega Drive, and PlayStation. They didn't only do Pokemon, either (even though that's what they're mainly known for) they developed Yoshi, some Japanese puzzle game and the Game Boy Camera.

Here are some first party guys Nintendo has:

Intelligent Systems (Like Joey stated above)

Monolith Soft

Retro Studios

Brownie Brown (lul)

Project Sora

Nd Cube

HAL Laboratory

EAD Groups 1,2,3,4,5

EAD Comprehensive Group

Oh wait.....you didn't specifically say first-party developers. whoops.

The remake of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time didn't work. How many remakes has Nintendo made for Mario? People are finally catching on to this scheme. "Let's not make new games, just remake them and dumbasses will buy the same game again!"

They're still working on a new Zelda, so who cares about the OoT remake. Besides I never played the Master Quest before, so I actually went with the remake.

I want to know how you get those 20 free games, since I purchased my 3DS on the first day by trading in my DSi.How do they know you bought your 3DS that day.

It's not like they're releasing ONLY remakes, we're still getting new Mario's and new Zeldas and whatnot.

eShop, if it detects that your system has went on the eShop before whatever date, then it's registered as part of this Ambassador thing.

True, but the amount of remakes has gotten out of control. How many remakes does the original Super Mario Brothers need? Nintendo could be spending time on another new game, but instead spends too much time on remaking many old games that have already been remade many times before.

The thing that bothers me, RKO, is not just the remakes... but the fact they mainly rely on their own Franchises. without Mario, Link, Samus and the Pokemon clan, they'd have sunk long ago.

I don't know. How many times SEGA rehashed Sonic? How many times Capcom rehashed Resident Evil? How many times Square-Enix rehashed Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest? The list goes on. Nintendo is far from the only entity guilty of remakes. Almost the entire band of major publishers in the industry rehash and repackage their catalog of classic games. Nintendo is just more visible for remakes to many gamers in this respect.

Very True, Knuckles. but each one of those franchises is starting to die. Its games like Heavy Rain, Uncharted, Fable, etc. That are new fresh ideas that keep catching my eye. I'm tired of jumping through the same hoops over and over again.

Something is wrong with the OoT remake? And I really love that game. Oh well, I'm not one to follow a fad, so I'll end up getting it and loving just as much as I love my N64 version. :biggrin_002:

They hate remakes apparently....lol. I don't mind it since I AM playing something I never played before, like MQ.

Unlike dragon Quest (since I've never really played it), I don't see how FF is the same every game, its either linear or open world with a different type of adventure each time. Unlike Sonic or Resident Evil which is the same thing with a different story that is little different then the last. Choas Emeralds, Sonic Jumping through obstacles to get through rings all the way to the end, and beat doctor Robotics or kill zombies.

You don't have any idea what I was talking about. Final Fantasy has remakes/releases on the PSP/DS and GBA. The PSP has remakes of the first games in the franchise. Then there is also FFIV. The DS has FFIII, FFIV. The GBA has... you know, never mind, I don't want to continue about it.

@Lizzie S

I still have hope for Sonic. Sonic Colors for the Wii is by far my favorite 3d-era Sonic game since Adventure 2. Generations is looking to be really promising as well and as a PC gamer this would be a treat for me.

But is the new sonic like any of the older ones? That's where I'm coming from. Every LoZ has a similar setup. go through the temples, solve the puzzles, get the item, get the treasure, rinse, repeat. Most sonics, go from beginning to end of the stage. Mario was similar to Sonic, then switched to enter the level find the stars/sunshine thingy, etc. Heck, I enjoyed FFXIII simply because it WAS linear. It wasn't like the other FF games.

Activision is not innocent either, the last 3-4 CoD games have all come out relatively quickly, with increasing cost in multiplayer maps, and they all play the same. At least fallout is a 1st person shooter that doesnt play like the others (Killzone, CoD, MoH, etc) why play the same thing over again in a different shell?

Ah, I see what you mean, sorry about that. Well in that case yes espiscally Finaly Fantasy 7 with its 5 unnecessary remakes.

You enjoyed a game that practially was a movie and you had little to no RPGing in that game whats so ever, plus FFX was all linear.

Yes, but your statement declares each one of the franchises are starting to die. I disagree with much respect.

In this entire gaming generation we have 7 CoD games including MW3. Activision is very notorious for exploiting their franchises. What is interesting about CoD is the sales. The series is thriving game after game and Activision has landed in a gold mine of cash.
