Animated face sprites?

Question

Hello!

So... I've been working on my game for quite a while (I started a couple years ago, but it was just a test and I eventually got back to it this year.) And originally, I used the face sets from Face maker. Obviously, that didn't go too well. Recently, I got a book which taught me how to draw clothing and I began drawing again to realize that I've gotten better and I'm not doing too badly. I decided to change the face sets to hand drawn. I had drawn one to test and I animated it as a GIF.

I have the advanced message script but I know that doesn't play GIFs. Don't get me wrong, I DO Have a GIF player. However, when I attempt to use the script to play the GIFs, I got an error message. I fixed it by changing the name of the GIF to one that already existed, but the game crashed whenever the GIF was supposed to play.

Either way, if there is no possible way for the GIF to work there is one more thing I can ask though I doubt I can get a direct answer.

If I happen to put in the face sets just As-is, what are the best dimensions (Roughly) for the image, and what do I input for the placement of the picture? I'm still fairly new to the picture fac esets... but hopefully someone can help me :)

Thanks in advance! And sorry for the vague question ^_^;

~Roxie

Sorry, a GIF file won't work. The RPG Maker XP requires all images to be png.

That isn't true. I do have a gif player, it just won't play the large images.

96 x 96 pixels is the standard face size, such as those used by the AMS script.

Apparently someone's says you can make it 150 x150 mind

Thanks for the help. However, I was hoping to add it above the dialog box. Even so, I have tried it, and it's not going too well. I'll try various things to see if it works, though this is not what I was hoping to do.

Thanks anyway.

I'm new so ignoring me might be your best bet. But what exactly are you trying to do?

Because If you can display gifs, can you not just make a common event that calls on the face picture at the right co-ordinates?

Then insert that before each dialogue? I do that to make my faces appear sat on top (not in) the text box.

(roughly x450 y190 at 110% zoom on a 100x100pixel image)

If you want it bigger make the zoom larger? Though I understand this will pixelate images the higher you go.

Don't say that! It was actually fairly helpful! Though I have the GIF player, the image freezes up the game because of the size of the file. You can't zoom the GIF either. I think I'm going to stick with regular images.

Thank you for this! This is very helpful, and though the GIF problem may not be solved, this REALLY helped :) Thanks again!

Thanks again!

Glad I was of some use at least :)

I just don't think Gifs play in XP after all is all :P

If you were desperate you could of course just call the pictures like 2-3 frames after each other, so it LOOKS like a moving image <_<

Haha you were ^_^

They do for sure! The GIF player does play the GIFs and I've seen it work. It's just that it won't play my large image.

I'm not that desperate, because it's for the faceset... so it won't work too well.
