Encrypting

Question

Well, since I found out about those Decrypting RMXP games I'm kindof pissed. I don't think people will stay in a row to decrypt and steal my game but there always is atleast 1 idiot out of there who steales others game and releases it calling it his game.

Does anybody maybe know a way to encrypt on a safer way so people can't decrypt?

No such thing. Those who actually know how to decrypt it (I'm not talking about using a decryptor program), will pretty much always find a way to decrypt it. This has been asked ever since the release of RMXP, and it has never been achieved. There are a few methods that will keep people who try to use a decryptor program from doing it, but other than that, this is truly a lost cause. Major companies cannot even keep their games/programs safe, so I doubt you'll manage to do it for an RMXP game. Hacking a piece of software, especially something as simplistic as an encrypted RMXP game, is not really even hard once you have the base knowledge on what you are doing and a few tools to help you out.

I'm saying if you can implement some protections that will keep people who have no idea what they are doing and just using a program from cracking it. That's about the best you can do. If you want to make a decryption-proof game, and will settle for nothing else, then "yes", you should stop trying to make a game. There is no such thing. Like I said, the large game companies who have thrown millions of dollars at it can not do it, and likely never will. It more or less just comes down to how well the encryption method can be hidden within the program itself, but it can always be found eventually once someone starts disassembling and searching.

Well, then I guess I'll add just a simple but a lil bit safer encryption as the standard RMXP encryptor and leave it by that.

I don't think my game will be worth, no I know it won't be worth hacking it. But if someone thinks it is, I guess I can't do anything on it. Like you said, games can be safe, but never 100%. Someone will eventually hack it.

On the other side

I used netplay for this, a online portugese RMXP system. I used it and added a few of my own scripts to it. I am the only one who got the english copy and like the only english person who understand how it works. I'm a good RMXP user, not bad at scripting and well, not bad at all other things like eventing, and it took me over a month to understand how it worked. And I still don't understand how it works.

If anyone will ever steal this game I wish him some good luck understanding how it works.

EDIT: sorry, I was writing this while you posted, and never saw your response xD

Everything F-Zer0 said.

But you shouldn't stop making your game on account of this. If anyone decrypts the game to try and release it on their own accord; will fail. For one, they do not have the same knowledge about your game that you do (so they would not be able to accurately complete it). and two, they will most likely be found out and ruin their entire reputation within the rpg maker community. Remember, the community is a small one; and if someone releases your game as their own, chances are you will find out about it, or someone else will; and I highly doubt anyone would keep their mouth shut. I know I wouldn't.

As a self-proclaimed artist (I wouldn't call myself the greatest, but I like to think of myself as one) the biggest offence someone can possibly make to another; is taking their work and calling it their own.

But really, the main reason most people decrypt Rpg Maker Games, are not for using the game as their own, but rather to take scripts and other resources to use in their own games. Which I can understand the concern for (well, when you are using custom resources made exclusively for your game) however, as f-zer0 said; there is only so much you can do.

There are other methods of encryption kicking around the internet (for RPG Maker, I mean); once again, as f-zer0 said, this still only protects the game so much.

Anyways, the main point that I am trying to get at, is that you should NOT let this stop you from making your game. Remember, anything you make publicly available (including, but not limited to: story, gameplay features, characters, screenshots) can be taken by anyone and can be used. What's stopping anyone from checking your game info out, making a game that uses your story and premise and calling it their own?

And the same goes to any other kind of "creator". Graphics arts, websites, music, sprites, etc. Can all easily be taken by someone and they can claim to have made it themselves.

The only TRUE protection is by making these things, and never making them public (and even then; I guess they could technically break into your computer and STILL take it for their own).

Oh well, if they will take the scripts, it's actually open source something. But you can't understand one tiny thing without the english version, and I added my own scripts and edited and fixed lots of bugs. I would be mad if someone stole it yes.

The graphics are RMXP graphics.

Some people are idiotic enough not to take things out of it but just literally copy it, I will be mad tho.

On the other side, the netplay script is a very hard script to work with, the scripts I added are made compatible with netplay, do one little thing wrong and the game is screwed up.

Like you all said, there is no full protection, and many things are actually easy to hack so there's nothing you can do on it.

Oh well, thanks for all, I will just continue working on my game.
