RMXPU Community,

Well, Project 2012’s revival from the dead is going quite nicely except for some minor lack of the word “community” participation. However, for the most part, voting in the P12 topics has been going rather okay despite the lack of participation. I thought it would be nice to create a ghetto newsletter to explain to those, what is currently happening with Project 2012 (P12 for short) and at what stage we are at. I or Enigma may release a Newsletter at least once every month starting at 1st of every month (so expect to see the next one on 1 OCT 2011).

Battle of the Engines

RPG Maker XP and VX went head-to-head to see which engine the community would choose as the foundation of the community project. This voting was the most participated in topic for the community project than any other currently created to date (before 1 SEP 2011, 2:00pm). Members came and explained why they wanted RMXP or RMVX to be used and despite the different reasons most of them were for valid reasons.

In all it the community seven days to decide the fate of the community project and in the end, RPG Maker XP won with seven votes well RPG Maker VX came in with five votes total. I would not call it the battle of the ages, but for some time the two were tied, 3-3 with no signs of breaking, but then Enigma came along and despite his wanting to, he choose to break the tie which led to a couple more people voting as well.

Now some members even started to show signs of disappointment if RPG Maker VX was not the winner, but like it always is in life we do not get what we always want. I can’t say that the ‘disappointing blow came as a shock,’ because I don’t think members were too surprised to see RPG Maker XP win. In closing all I can say is remember this, “Even if you don’t own RPG Maker XP doesn’t mean you can’t participate as there are plenty of jobs/tasks to do without the software.”

Plot Me This - Plot Me That

What will our hero be? Will he stand tall and true like so many heroes before him or will he have his own unknown purpose? This of course was a question we asked the community and for sometime it seemed active enough, but like all good things that must come to an end, activity in the community project topics became dim at best. This might surprise a few people seeing as how a topic was made asking about this project, and if it was still being pursued. However, despite the interest people showed in the previous topic (XP vs VX) and those who replied in the topic in regard to the project this topic was not treated as fairly as ones before it.

Members were given a choice of a selected plot lines with the choice to create their own and the topic seemed active enough, but when it came time to actually get to the voting, the community disappeared. This forced the Leaders in a tough spot because they could let the topic run the time frame it was given or cut it short due to a lack of community participation. Sadly, in the end the topic was cut short with item #3 being the winner; hero is unknowingly the bad guy.

Despite the lack of interest in the topic at least we had some votes to go on, but three votes are hardly enough to call it a community decision right? Wrong, the community chose it regardless of the vote count because they chose not to vote or read the topic itself. I just hope in the future we will see more activity in the community project from the community, especially when members were asking what was going on with this project before I became a leader.

War and Battle

The latest topic involving the community project is the “[P12] Battle System” topic created today. Most people may not think twice about the battle system, but it is a key factor in any RPG game. In fact, RPG’s usually have three types to choose from: menu based (classic RPGs), action, and tactical as well. Each system offers its own unique points to the game, but when it comes to such systems, it all comes down to the player and what they like to play. I like the old school menu based battle systems, but I also enjoy the action and tactical systems as well.

Plot Themes

The next step in the plot/story decision is a Plot Theme. We have already established a basis for the plot itself, but now need to add to it. Enigma and I will be creating six plot themes based off the Plot Line selected by members to create a Plot Theme. These themes will be ranging in many different approaches to how to take the plot and where to take it. So this is currently where the plot of the community project stands story wise. Until it is complete voting will be paused, and we will move on to other voting aspects of the community project.

Community Participation

The point of a community project is for the community to participate in the project by any means they can:

1) Voting on topics/subjects relating to the project.

2) Suggesting ideas, pointing out issues, etc.

3) Creating Scripts or suggesting scripts to be used.

4) Creating Event Systems of suggesting event systems to be used.

5) Help with the story/plot (voting, writing, suggesting ideas and pointing out issues)

6) Mapping

The bottom line is you do not need the software to do most of what is listed above (5 of the items do not require you to own the software well only 3 do).

Now I know people have lives to live and other interests may appear, but simply reading a topic and voting is not going to take up that much of your time and is VERY MUCH appreciated. Even if all you do to participate is voting on items then you are contributing to the community project as a community member; please remember this. Hell, even if you don’t use RMXP or RMVX, I am sure you probably play video games, and your opinion is more than welcome.

v/Respectfully,

Noob Saibot/Kage Kazumi (P12 Leader)
