Trap17.com is based on the admin staying active, and even now there are a few errors still present on the forum because of this limitation or just not fixed yet. Now this site could realy become something big (perhaps not as big as gamingw.net, but perhaps rmxp.org and Creation Asylum. Yes thats a long shot in itself, but I think having our own hosting and domain name would attract more members.

 

Now you say, "well free is not bad. I can even point out some free forums that do quite well." That may be so, but name one that uses it's own domain name and maybe I will care. Yes it's harsh, and people these days don't care for ads (thought this place does not have them). The idea is to help this community and I feel the best way to do that is to give it it's own host. The host I plan on using is AN Hosting; there information can be found here. Now there plan says $6 a month, but they changed it to yearly payments about a month ago.

 

As you look over the host details I am sure a few questions come to mind. So below is a FAQ I added to help you (and myself).

 

FAQ

 

Question: Would your hosting account always remain active?

 

Answer: I can say yes to this, but in the case they go out of business the forum would be backed up daily. So in such an event a new host would be found.

 

Question: If you have paid for one months hosting, and cannot pay the next month, the forum will go down.

 

Answer: No the new hosting plan is paid by yearly. Ans money is not a problam as I have a saving account as well. Whith back up money in such a event should arise.

 

Question: Can you ensure this would not happen?

 

Answer: Yes I can, as stated above besides having my normal Checking Account I also have a savings account for back stuff such as: paybills, gas money, medical bills, etc.

 

Now seeing as you said: "meaning you would have complete control." I am sure that would bring questions from the members, so below is a quick FAQ on this subject should it happen.

 

Question: Would you change anything on the forum?

 

Answer: A single question that has many answers. I have always belived that a forum is ran by the community. So thus any big changes would be community driven in the sense that a poll would take place and members would vote. Positive vote and the new "what ever" would happen; negative and it would not. Small infractions such as adding a Modification (which I can and know how to do) would be a soul choice; unless it was a big change.

 

Question: Would you change the current staff?

 

Answer: Not unless your doing something you shouldn't be.

 

Question: Will you edit or make new rules?

 

Answer: I was never a fan of large signature, so it would change to 500x180. But other then that why change a good thing?

 

Question: How can we be sure this is not a shame or something of the like?

 

Answer: Well then instead of having Marked say: "yes." I feel it would be best to wait. As in when I e-mail Marked with the new site address, and an account to have access to FTP & MySQL database. The you have the proof I am not pulling your leg.

 

Below is a quick FAQ on some other stuff.

 

Question: Will we have to pay for an E-mail account?

 

Answer: No, but it will be limited in space. Becoming a Subscribed member would increase the size though.

 

Question: A subscribed member...how much?

 

Answer: Very small, somthing like one time fee of $10 US $$.

 

Question: So all we get is extra E-mail space?

 

Answer: No subscribed also means: extra PM space, Your own forum for you project if you have a team, use of HTML in posts and signature.

 

Question: Will you let us host our games/projects?

 

Answer: Not demos, but completed games yes.

 

Question: Who will work on the site?

 

Answer: Well: myself and who ever would be able to help.

Some of us have things to do. I did see your topic before, and I did not reply. I think I would decline your offer as you keep doing things like this. Removing your topic because I did not reply earlier, why? No offense, but I think it would be a risk.

 

I was going to say, with my probable leaving, I suppose it should not matter to have the forum hosted by you, meaning you would have complete control. I was also going to ask, would your hosting account always remain active? If you have paid for one months hosting, and cannot pay the next month, the forum will go down. Can you ensure this would not happen?

Well I edited to revise it. I thought maybe it did not sound tempting enough. I was not being childish, just thought I needed a better execution topic. Now that you have some questions I can add them to the edited new version. Sorry for the confussion.

I did not say I was definately leaving. Although, you are offering me a chance to escape.

1) This forum is IPB 2.2, and fully licensed.

2) Do you want me to take a few seconds and change that in the AdminCP?

Yes of course the offer is open if you stay, besides you would have to move the forum any way. I'm not here to take over the forum (should it come to that then okay). And no you don't need to add the License, but perhaps after or before the move.

 

About the domain names...

 

I plan on getting all three that way people can use any of the like to get to the site. Plus I think we would be the first to have all 3 domains instead of just one. This may also mean members get to choose their email as in: .com, .net, or .org.

Might I recommend waiting until we get things 100% settled? After all, it would be unfair for you to buy it, then have Marked decide not to move it to you, thus resulting in him never being able to, since you own the names. Also, I don't really think it's a good idea to accept someone's offer to host a site if they haven't been around that long...at least, I never seen you post until quite recently anyway...either way, I have to say, I (personally) would never accept this offer myself...since I don't know you and so forth...

I already know this (waiting on the domain names). As for not being around that long, it does not hurt me any if you all say no. I know plenty of other RMXP sites on free forum services &/or hosts that would jump at it. So it matters not to me.

I host like this would be the final thing RMXP Unlimited needs. And what you said here:

Sounds like you would like to see this forum become a professional forum. Having three domain names proves that even more.

This offer just may be what we need to push us into the right direction to make a successful forum.

I agree with Marked, it sounds good...but again, I (personally) would say no, simply because I don't know the person...if I knew Kevan better, and trusted him, I might say yes...of course, it is up to Marked, not me...so...it is up to him to make the decision...

At all times I have access to the database, so no matter what happens, the forums cannot be taken away, or damaged. The worst case scenario would be that no one would be able to access the forums for a couple of days, and a couple of posts are lost. Trust may be an issue, but I have to decide if I'm willing to take that chance for the forums. I think that we can trust Kevan, and perhaps all of you will come to soon as well.

So why are you offering us this? It sounds like you just want to have an RMXP forum. Is that an unfair comment?

 

Good, question, but nothing can be mine if I did not start it. To be honest I used to be a member of: gameingw.net, rmxp.net/.org, and many other sites. They all just did not have that thing that grabbed me. That was because of the following reasons:

 

gamingw.net -- has to many up-tight people and some that should grow up.

 

rmxp.net/.org -- has to many people who think they got what it takes and act as if they shit gold or something.

 

Basic decree is I find most Free RMXP sites do quite better and are not so up-tight.

 

I host like this would be the final thing RMXP Unlimited needs. And what you said here:

That would be correct. Most RMXP sites focus on some basic stuff, but the idea is to seem more serious about it. This includes 3 domain names (and helps prevent copycat sites).
