Random Map Selector

Recommended Posts

Alright, can anyone help me?

I want to include the sort of dungeon crawler elements like Lizze_S's Dungeons of Eternity game, but I only want it for a set amount of maps, and also want to include a storyline over the top.

I was sort of hoping that I could ask for help on this, because I'm not sure if I should simply do something of a cut-scene at a "Camp" map, or try and run a paralell process timer to activate an autorun in the middle of a dungeon as well, creating a feeling of free flow.

With games like Pokemon:Mystery Dungeon, they had it so that after a set amount of maps, it would go to a cutscene on a specific map, I liked the idea, but I'm not exactly sure how to create variables (never had to use them, you see)

If anyone can help, please, do!

Thanks in advance

No problem.

Also, after thinking about, there is a flaw in my example, but it could be easily fixed with better design.

On the "lavaish' map with the trollface, the boulder is probably going to act weird the next time the player enters teh map, considering it relies on parameters set by switchs and variables that are not reset.

Or maybe not, I don't remember what i did and im too lazy to check.

My point is, make sure you think about whether or not the player will be able to go to a map more than once, and if so, design accordingly.

If you need any more help just ask.

I did notice this flaw, and while I haven't actually applied the script to my game yet (I need to build all the maps, and I'm also making one for that contest ^^) But I have a very good idea on how to do this now, thanks.

I'm building a seperate camp map that will be transfered to for storylines (The characters will each have thier own storyline, sort of inspired with this idea by the game Dragon Age)

So, I should be able to create my game without any issues now!

Thanks a ton, and if I need more help (which will porbably be most likely) I'll be sre to ask!
