I was under the impression that when you create a new game, there's some default tiles and such to use? There's nothing there for me... All the tutorials I find use things that just aren't there for me and when I try to test, it freaks out and says it's missing a ton of sprites but I don't know what I need... Help...

Sounds like you forgot to download and install the RTP. http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/download/run-time-package#xp

Try that and let me know if it works.

Chances are the RTP came with the download for RMXP. Where did you download RMXP?

I tried to install it and it said I already had it installed... and yes, I did install both of those things.

In your game in RMXP go to. Game> Select RTP. If it doesn't say standard for RTP 1 then try to select it. If there is no RTP to select then something might have went wrong during installation.

edit: I'm gonna try to reinstall... If it works I'll let you know.

 

2nd edit: It worked! I guess it just installed wrong. For anyone who has this problem and reads this: I uninstalled the older RTP and installed the one from the link. I guess something was wrong with the install.
