A little help on a small problem (Solved)

Question

Hi there new to the forum so I'm creating a map and wanted a pirate ship in it, the problem was I couldn't find a sprite big enough to look like a real ship (Creating my maps with the tilesets that has everything of the outside and everything of the inside.) and after hours of searching yesterday I gave up and created a pic of a ship by making it on a separate map then screenshooting it and place it on map.

I resized the picture so I could show it as an object instead of a picture and all works but I need to make my character walk on the ship at least till the ramp (I can make him teleport to show the ship bigger if nothing else can be done).

Problem is my character is walking under it and I don't have ticked on top option and can't figure it out why it doesn't want to walk over instead of under.

I attached a picture to show you.

Only solution that I may try if it works which will be very time consuming is making empty events across the water were the ship will be so character can't walk under it.

What do you think people?

Thanks for the help.

This is interesting in I have never seen this problem before. and it shouldn't matter which layer you put those in, it should work. Might I suggest you delete those few tiles, and place them again starting from the dock and going towards the ship? That might fix it.

That looks like the standard ship tileset, which I think has a couple of bugs with it. I was looking for something like that myself, but havent put much effort into ship tileset searching on google.

What you could do is to use Move Routes to change Event Flags such as "Always On Top" so your character can walk under, or behind. Events can also be used for graphics. If they are, just turn off the "Move Animation" so it speeds up a little, not much, but a little bit. But that is an excessively overkill solution to a problem that I dont think requires it.

But I think the biggest problem is that youre using an Image that looks like it is part of the map without actually being part of the map. That I think is the first thing that if you can address and overcome, you'll be just fine with that pesky layering issue. Then, it is just a matter of setting Tile Priorities. Tile Priorities happen in graphics like Trees so it appears you are walking behind them. If your ramp has a higher priority than 0, the engine tries to render it according to its priority, and not its appropriate layer. Just using Layers, if you have two graphics that have the same priority, it just puts the highest layer on top.

I think I found out why.

Since I only use 1 tile to show the ship the other are technically empty tiles with no events I'll try something to figure it out or else I'll just make character teleport when near the ship.

[Edit]

The ramp (the part coming from the ship) is part of the picture that's the problem, I couldn't find any other way to make it show over the ship.

[Edit 2]

Yay found a solution!!!!

Set Move Route: Player

Always on Top ON

Through ON

Jump -2 x

Through OFF

With this my character shows on top of the ship but can't walk which is obvious since there's water under the ship but that can be fixed maybe with empty events with through in them.

I think your best bet, would be to simply combine the two desired tilesets.

This way you can make your ship how you want it, with the dock, water and walls etc, and not worry about pathing and layering as you can assign it on the tileset.

If you want, I will combine your desired tileset with the ship tileset, the only down side is you will have to setup all the flags etc. for the extra parts of the tileset.

If you do want me to combine them for you, post the non ship one, (I have the ship tileset), and I'll combine them for you.

Nah thank you anyway I solved it by trial and error simply making walkable tiles under the ship that get hidden by the picture when ingame and by using the command mentioned in my previous post I managed to show my character over the ship :)

Thanks anyway.

No problem, but will your ship display properly? Like will there be depth? Can the player still walk behind the cannons, the center mast etc?

Actually yes by placing walking terrain instead of water.

I uploaded a small video to show you how i made it working which will explain better than words it's 4 mb size not big (Sorry for the quality the cam is good but seems it doesn't work well infront of the screen :P

Yeah, by doing that you lose the ability to fake 3D.

I took a screenshot of your example to show you.

3DExample.png

Notice the player character is 'on top' of the box rather than behind it, this is what the layering effect in the tilesets section is for.

If you combine the ship tileset, to whatever tileset you used for the water and walls, dock etc. then you can have a true 'fake' 3D effect, allowing the player to walk behind things, as well as taking out your need for the weird jolting port up the stairs and the jump onto the ship.

Overall what you have now 'works' but trust me you would be far more happy with the results of a combined tileset, and a fully walkable and 3D ship.

I appreciate your help but that would be a lot of fuss for such a minor issue I could always edit the box on the boat with photoshop to be a little lower solving it.

But thanks anyway.

Last time I'll reply hehe.

I will combine the tilesets, setup all the flags, and remake the ship and dock scene for you if you would like.

I estimate it would take me less than an hour.

Nah leave it thanks anyway :)

I got bigger problems to solve rather than wasting time on something so easily fixed by photoshop ;)

It can't be made 3D with Photoshop unless you overlay two pictures.

Here is an example of how your ship is supposed to look when walked on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppdbsrrVPWU

And here is an example I found of a giant ship.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zdyev8mQLEY&feature=related

Your method of walking on the ship is an unnecessary work around, and loses you the ability to have 3D. I strongly suggest you take the 20 minutes to combine and resetup the tileset with the ship at the bottom.

Sorry to bug, but I hate to see poor quality for no reason.

EDIT:

LOL @ the accidentally recorded audio, had the laptop muted so when I checked to see if I had recorded audio it was quiet.

Hmm, ok well your best bet would be to either give me a copy of your game, or make a new game and copy over the map, and the tileset from the database.

That way I can add the ship to the end and customize the flags without erasing yours, because if I don't have the flags you have already set there is no way to copy the ship setup over.

Once you give me a game with your map and tileset(in database) it should only take me a few minutes to setup the flags, I already have the ship added to the bottom of the tileset.

Ok but I'll pm you a link I put a lot of work on the map wouldn't really like to share it among everyone and risk on getting stolen all the work I did.

(I'll make a new game and only add the tileset and this dock part as my actual map is bigger and this part is only a corner of it, my actual map size is 265 width 330 height made it smaller than it was because it might lag with the events, ecc)

I totally understand. I have completed the map, and sent you a link via pm.

Much more functional than before, I even added a bonus tile I made to make the stairs more 3D as well.

Hope ya like it.

Ok So I just got RPG maker Xp, and am having a lot of fun with it, but I keep encountering this problem that's been holding me back in my progress.

In the first pic my party is at the top and the enemy (Frog) is at the bottom, the battler works correctly without a hitch.

But whenever I try to load custom battlers, (or sometimes battlers that we're in the game already)
I get the error you can see in the second pic where the hound is cut in half. It keeps scrolling through the selected row of sprites, as it is supposed to, but for some reason there is a gap between the images causing it not to fluidly animate. I've gone into the advanced configuration and set up the hound's battler in the custom settings, and it still doesn't work.

Edit: I'm also using the Chrono trigger battle add-on.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks.
