RPG maker vx ACE decision

Recommended Posts

I havn't started making my rpg yet, but I am ready to. Its based on the resident evil movies. Im thinking of using vx ace to make the game, but I want to use an action battle system and it may be a while until one is made for ace. Do you think I should wait for the ace script to be made or just stick with vx?

There is however one easy solution. You could make me an action battle script for ace and I will give you all of my points on this site.

It depends if you have all the information already, then just do it on VX. But if you're still working on the gathering the story and resources then maybe you can try it on VXA because by time you figure everything out someone might of translated/created a CBS for VXA.

I decided for myself before you two replyed. I had a great idea for an all new game that I hope will be as popular as minecraft!! I will have to use gamemaker for it though, so i'll work on that for a while, then when I decide to start on my RPG there might be an ABS made for Ace.

And Marked, Action Battle Scripts are huge and require lots of work, and the one i was using in vx was not plug and play, and was much easier to use the ABS demo as the basis for the game. I can start without it but when I add it it may require lots of database and variable reconfiguring and I dont want to get to the point where I have to change things that could stuff up my game.

As for the idea I have, I don't want anyone to steal my idea and also want to tell people so how do I do this without paying for copyright?

Well, any form of intellectual property is technically, in a sense, once created, copyright to you.

Unfortunately, however, if someone wishes to take your idea, they will take your idea. This is unavoidable, and something you will have to accept if you wish to share ideas/what have you. Intellectual property theft is not limited to ideas. My personal advice to you, is to wait until you make some decent progress into development before sharing it.

One of the pitfalls of sharing any form of work over the internet, is it becomes quite easy to take. I, however, do not want to deter you from going with your ideas. For the most part (as far as I know, I know I am) the community is against property theft, and communities usually police this issue themselves.

Nonetheless, I wish you luck in this project!

I see I see, that changes things. Back in my RM days I never got attached to the other battle systems, the default was always my favorite

If you can do it better than the thieves, then they're just complimenting you :)

Nostalgia goggles :3 or just a better imagination.

Honestly, other than being a little outdated, there is nothing wrong with the default system; and without even touching scripting there is still a lot you can do with it, to make it interesting and unique. People give the default systems too much hate IMO

Ah yes, that reminds me, I forgot to add this: If someone steals your idea, theres a good chance 1. they won't get it even CLOSE to your vision 2. They won't do it NEARLY as well. Afterall, it is your idea, and only YOU REALLY know what it is, what it should be, etc. Also, if you just generalize your ideas, you can share what you came up with, without revealing the specifics that someone could use to recreate your idea.

And what marked said. Although no one likes having their work stolen, you have to admit, that would be one hell of a compliment (as it would have to be good enough for someone to be like "I WISH I MADE THAT UP", and it would have to be even better for them to go to the effort to try and steal/recreate your idea)

Just some thoughts...but, I digress.

I think personally, if you are choosing between VX/VX Ace; once Ace is released; to go with that. It's only a matter of time before people start making scripts for ace. Ruby 1.9.2 is much faster than 1.8.4, which would mean Ace has the ability to do more, scripting side, before getting frameskips/lag.

Thanx for the tips everyone as you have helped me come to a decision. I Will use ace, and start making my other game before I reveal information about it. All I can say is it is a FPSP. A first-person-sandbox-puzzle game.

No the database and the mapping is complete different. Also scripting database has been updated, so it would require a scripter to translate a script from XP to VX and vise versa.
