Typical - Mapping

Question

Hi there...

Well, I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to mapping, and basically, that's one of the most important elements in an rpg. I'm working in VX, and the project i'm on it's at it's beginning state. Finished importing scripts, ideas, actors monsters etc. But in mapping, I don't think i'm that good.

That's why here's my "HELP ME !" signal.

Firstly I started with the starting map of the game (not exactly starting point, but the town it starts). It'll appear bellow and I ask for honest opinion. It's probably good, it's probably bad, but I still need to know, if I miss things, and ways to improve my mapping skills within the one posted.

im no good with vx, since ive only used it once for a couple days and didnt really like it, but i know a pokemon style map when i see one (its actually better than that, but its close). tbh, it needs work, but you knew that. i would suggest making more paths through the trees, and try to give things not man made lots of variety. even the paths should be a bit crooked. also...

ive circled things in red i dont like, and things i do in blue. while i think this block of trees should be cut in half vertically, its also to blocky. imo edges that are more than 3 tiles long are to long. i used to be horrible, i think everyone was at one point. mapping takes practice, and examples to look at. as well as advice. asking for help is the best thing you can do, i regret not doing that myself, but people offered help anyway, luckily. hope this helps, and happy mapping. alright.gif

In my honest opinion, this is a decent map. It just lacks a bit of detail... There are plenty of scenery objects provided with VX itself, but you didn't use very many of them. Add a bit of scenery and like stated about, don't make things seem so "man-made". Make the paths and waterways and such seem more natural. Curve the paths a bit, add more curves to the water.

-Hope I helped...

If you want, I could make a demo that has a few nice-looking maps and you could build from those.

But I can only make a RMXP demo, since I don't use RMVX.

Make sure to add less trees,

To make it more natural, add trees randomly,

Don't make the are beside the path so square (not all the time you need to follow)

Get it?
