Demoscene Demos

Recommended Posts

Wiki paste:

"The demoscene is a computer art subculture that specializes in producing demos, which are non-interactive audio-visual presentations that run in real-time on a computer. The main goal of a demo is to show off programming, artistic, and musical skills.

The demoscene first appeared during the 8-bit era on computers such as the Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and Amstrad CPC, and came to prominence during the rise of the 16/32-bit home computers (the Amiga or Acorn Archimedes in the UK and Germany, and the Atari ST). In the early years, demos had a strong connection with software cracking. When a cracked program was started, the cracker or his team would take credit with a graphical introduction called a "crack intro" (shortened cracktro). Later, the making of intros and standalone demos evolved into a new subculture independent of the software (piracy) scene."

What they are:

They are all demos within the Demoscene. Demos reached their peak in popularity during the years of Amiga and Accommodore 64. Demos aimed to push the boundaires of current hardware and show off what the team could pull off in real time. There has been some outstanding demos released, some of which whent further than what was thought possible. This is also when chiptunes where at a high!

Today demoscene isn't as popular, but still active with some spectacular releases broadening peoples imagination and huge inspirations. It is an art form, as you may notice in the video below and even back in the days amazing pixel art was drawn.

Just watch the videos and hopefully you too will see the ebauty they hold.

This below is by called The Butterfly Effect by ASD, one of my favourite groups.

So does anyone have any idea what this is of? I personally love them! They very entertaining, creative, artistic and push hardware to their limits. Some reach smooth fps whereas others simply struggle, it's down to your hardware.

Some of you may have an idea, but most of you probably don't unless researched. If someone guesses correct, I'll make this thread into a full 'whateverthisis' thread, and supply many many of them, videos, websites, events etc.

hmm I gunna take a few guesses (yay for 3D animation xD)

1. particle effect (last picture makes this doubtful)

2. depth of field(last picture makes this possible)

3. "Faces" on models, aka how many sides a model has.

4. Fractal imaging?
