ShinkuAura 15 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) What is SOPA? Stop Online Piracy Act. the U.S congress has made 2 bills called PIPA and SOPA these bills is aimed to stop Piracy but here's the trick. this bill is ment to Censor the internet, What the F**k? censor? yes Censor! for example if you upload a MW3 video, or a Minecraft video you will be an outlaw, just like that because you do not own the game. So what they're going to censor? Facebook, twitter, google, youtube, wikipedia! and since this site is called RMXP (RPG maker xp for short) the U.S goverment could take this site down!(Unless that the server is in the U.S) Due to SOPA you cannot repeat any names even if original. and images you make can be copyrighted and you yes you can go to jail. Independent Devs will have trouble in publishing games since you cannot have any copyright music or any copy of images, if you want to make a Final Fanstasy remake for RPG maker your a god dang outlaw just for a remake how stupid! if these bills are aproved the government will have rights to see what you are doing in the internet. such as pictures, videos, music. and if you break the law various times you will be banned from the internet, or get sued and go to jail. the government doesn't know that the Economy will lower drasticly because 85% of the economy is now on internet. this will only affect the U.S but how can this affect you if you live in canada, england, mexico, ect?? well facebook, youtube, twitter, google, yahoo, wikipedia servers are in the USA well 80% of the servers in the world are in the USA. Say no to SOPA the internet will be censored and the internet is a place were you can express yourself. free speech everything. and YOU are about to be censored. if you don't really care about this and not intrested don't bother saying that i wish i could of help, because right now it's not to late. Mojang has closed down their sites, Why if it's good for them no more piracy, i don't know but they are also protesting about this bill. Wikipedia has blacked out and alot of sites are blacking out because we don't want censorship like China. we are the ones who decide if we want this help the internet. -Omar Edited January 19, 2012 by Omar510 2 rgangsta and kellessdee reacted to this
kellessdee 48 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 Yes, SOPA and PIPA are a conveniently worded means of the US effectively controlling and censoring the internet. The methods they wish to employ WILL NOT and CAN NOT STOP PIRACY. However, the methods they wish to employ can easily destroy any website that IS CLAIMED to be "infringing copyright" (note, that it does not necessarily even have to be PROVEN, a claim will start the process, the website will be blocked and THEN the legal process will begin) Do not give those who do not understand the internet, the power to control it. Here is the MPAA's response: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2399019,00.asp kind of ironic isn't it? I believe their claims alone prove they know nothing of the matter, and should not be in control.
ShinkuAura 15 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) This bill is helping industries like hollywood and music studios. because i can just download a soundtrack or see a movie on Netflix so basicly they are losing money. these are selfish people who are sick of money. i have no problems with copyright yes i do not have any problems about copyright but censoring the internet. is BS! Free music isn't illegal for me because it's just a copy of a soundtrack and while the original soundtrack isn't deleted it's legal! edit: mojang shut down their website because the community make videos about minecraft and with this bill the video you upload of minecraft. well you go to jail or get sued. Polraudio 122 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 I agree this is total BS. You might as well say that youtube will have to remove more than 50% of its content. Game information sites will have to be shutdown. The whole internet will be screwed in many ways. Its going to hurt way more than its going to help. I would have to say NO! to SOPA and PIPA. 1 kellessdee reacted to this
kellessdee 48 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 Good for mojang -- not their biggest fan, but I respect that. I also respect the major companies like google/wikipedia for doing the same. Hopefully, this nonsense will come to an end soon. Even certain members in the government disagree with these acts.

kare3 0 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 The voting is sort of like a week away from now.. but seriously. One little question: HOW CAN CONGRESS SERIOUSLY REMOVE AND COPYRIGHT BLAA BLAA BLAAA EVERY SINGLE WEBSITE EVER MADE ON THE INTERNET? IT'S SO IMPOSSIBLE THERE'S LIKE MILLIONS AND MILLIONS AND MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OF WEBSITES HERE It sounds a little unreal, unless of course they press a button and BOOM all the sites are blocked off
Joey 9 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 (edited) ...This is...well, you guys already said it. >_> I dunno what to say...but something tells me that its not gonna happen. ShinkuAura 15 Report post Posted January 19, 2012 The Copyright purpose is ok, i'm saying that aclaim what's yours or what isn't yours because people can steal anything. but censoring the web isn't what we all want. the internet is free, the people has more power online then in the real world. sure piracy isn't good in anyway. but the industries lose power. the government is afriad of the people because we can do anything to them. the Congress doesn't even know what is internet is a way to protest. We are the people who allows people have power...the real power is the people who gives power to people. -Omar

I'm too busy enjoying my actual freedom. Convince me, I'm starting to really hate it here. I don't know, with Anonymous hacking gov't sites and media sites like Univerisal Music, and the desctruction of Megaupload or other uploading sites, the bill will most likely get passed. Our politcians and gov't are currupt, old, money-grubbing, power hungry- war-mongering idiots who refuse to do as their people request, want and vote upon. 1 Polraudio reacted to this
RageMage 5 Report post Posted January 20, 2012 There's such a small chance of this happening it's not worth worrying about, and even if it did happen it will never last. Pirating is already illegal and it hasn't stopped anyone yet, the internet is to vast for the government to control completely and honestly taking down one site is just going to result in hundreds more popping up for the same purpose. Take the internet rules: Internet rule 137: Most men are little girls, most women are men, all little girls are FBI agents. Internet rule 138: If it has made an appearnace on the internet at any time it will always be on the internet somewhere. Internet rule 139: If you get a virus you watch to much porn. I think rule 138 applies here, there is no stopping internet users from doing what they want to do, period.
kellessdee 48 Report post Posted January 20, 2012 LOL rage, good rules to follow. anyway, I'm with Mark on this one. Well, my assumption is, perhaps the U.S. gov't (which has enough debt/economy problems as is) will realize the worst thing they can do to the economy is attempt to destroy the internet. I'm sure by know they've AT LEAST realized that these acts will do NOTHING to stop piracy. Just because the DNS won't give you the REAL ip, doesn't mean you cannot connect to the REAL ip. And, if they do this, they may as well give up silicon valley...I hope they realize the implications behind this. If this passes, it's only because hollywood is attempting to "pay off" congress. Little does "hollywood" realize, a lot of their advertising revolves around accused "copyright infringing" websites. Currently, A LOT of websites are hosted in the U.S... If these acts pass, these sites will just find offshore hosting and what do they think the likeliness of ANY new website using US-based hosting? Maybe congress just wants to put the U.S. back into the dark ages?
CrimsonInferno 35 Report post Posted January 20, 2012 Apparently it is currently 60 supportors and 101 opponents on the SOPA/PIPA bill when it use to be 80 Supporters and 30 oppenents. We can only hope this is enough to stop this. Oh, and apparently Megaupload is back with a new server. Don't visit it, it could be a trap by either the FBI or Anonymous. Supposedly Anonymous is forcing software on innocent people that breaks down sites. If you do this, even if you didn't want to or mean to, you could face 10 years in prison. So I would advice not clicking any links, they could be infected.
Kange 0 Report post Posted January 20, 2012 i jsut jumped into this topic and had a question. You say if this is passed the government can take down sites like this. Isnt that ultimatly up to the rmxp makrs? cause if the makers are cool with it, we should be allowed to do what we want. How can the government do that, sint it infringing on the rights of the makers? and on top of that, if they had THAT big of a problem with these sites, which are doing exactly 0 harm to anyone anywhere at all, couldnt they come after the sites? why cant the government jsut stay out of everyone elses business? RageMage 5 Report post Posted January 21, 2012 Under SOPA the penalty for uploading Michael Jackson music illegally online is 5 yearsin prison, the penalty for KILLING Michael Jackson is 4 years in prison. All I have to say is, WHAT? In what universe is that even close to justifiable? 5 years for uploading but if you kill him oh that's so not near as bad.
