Best way to download and convert videos?

Recommended Posts

I tried RealPlayer to download from YouTube, but it won't let me convert it to the format I want...tried some other program that wouldn't let me convert the videos RealPlayer downloads...GAH! What's the best video converter that'll take ANY video format? :/

Also when converting, I have to set it up to certain specifications in order for it to be played on the 3DS. Since it has video recording and playback now, I figured I'll try to put YouTube videos on it. :P

P.S: And now an unrelated question...how do you prevent your monitor from blacking out on Windows 7? I was able to pull this off last time but couldn't remember how...and its kinda going to get on my nerves since I play the Wii on here. I checked the power plan options and made sure everything is turned off, but last night when I went to bed I noticed that the monitor still went out. >.>

Thanks...

For converting, try one of these: http://lifehacker.com/316478/top-10-free-video-rippers-encoders-and-converters

I used to have/use a good one I *THINK* (seriously don't remember D:), maybe one of those will help.

As for the screen blackening, just set your screen saver to (none), that should work.

Ugh...I hate free trials. xD

Also, Pol, a bit off-topic but its kinda buging me...well, avast! anyways. It doesn't like a certain image in your sig apparently. You know how to shut it up? xD

(and no, I'm keeping the anti-virus, lol)

Are you sure you don't have a screen saver activated?

If your screen saver is set to (none) and your screen is still blacking out, then it would have to be your power options:

(i think this only pertains to notebooks and the like, but I could be wrong...I only have a notebook with Windows 7)

control panel > power options > change plan settings

If it's not that, then you should look into it, because those are the only reasons windows will black out your screen (as far as I know...I have not changed any other settings and the only thing that blacks out my screen, is my screen saver.)

Its not the screensaver. Its a power plan issue.

Go to control panel -> Power Options -> on the left side go to "Chose when to turn off the display"

Then set it to whatever you want it to be. smile.png

Edit: Another video converter i use is Xilisoft Ultimate Video Converter. It can convert any format to any format. If your video is 5min or shorter you can just use the trial out like crazy. The trial only converts the first 5min i think.

Sometimes i will use zamzar for converting files that are smaller than 100mb. http://www.zamzar.com/

As for downloading youtube videos i use firefox with easy youtube downloader or if you dont want to use firefox just use videodroid http://www.videodroid.org/

If you want to play any format on your computer use VLC Player. Its the best out there.

That should answer all your questions(unless i still dont get what your asking).

@pol yea, that's what I figured... I just thought to be safe, because "blank" sometimes sounds like "no screensaver" but it is actually a screensaver.

and cuz joey said he already messed with the power plan :/

I checked the power plan options and made sure everything is turned off, but last night when I went to bed I noticed that the monitor still went out. >.>

I forget how they describe it, but it was some issue with the power plan. Apparently some users can turn sleeping/hibernating/whatever completely off only to still have it happen.

I don't know what happened, but it didn't go out this time when I fell asleep, lol.

Anyways, Isaacol found a program that allows to download videos from youtube in any format I think. except what I'm trying to do isn't working yet, so I'm still messing around with it...apparently I'm missing something, or need another converter...ugh this is confusing. xD

EDIT: I don't this one has it, but the encoder has to be MJPEG...

Also the program Isaac gave me is "DVDVideoSoft Free Studio", if anyone familiar with the program can help me work with it.

What time lol? You got all the time in the world.

Just play with it for about an hour or 2 and you will get it. Trial and error joey. Thats the only way anyone learns.

And besides I can't find a free trial on this thing...and Isaac said the same thing with his program, and yet it can't convert to the specifications either.

I'll look into it Mad....will let you know if it works. Hopefully my antivirus won't think this program is malicious like that one program I tried with the word Super in it. xD

Well whatever is going on, its not taking it...so there's something I'm missing in the options. But I think Madanchi has given me a good converter, lol. I'm gonna have to look at it later though, don't have time to mess with it now.

Wasn't able to get it to work, but it looks like that someone just uploaded a program not too long ago that was made to convert the video for the 3DS, and it works...so...never mind then I guess. xD

I'm with Polraudio.

Xilisoft Ultimate Converter is the way to go.

There are also free online services that will do it for you.

ahh great stuff thanks, I'll get messing with it ;D

Yeah, I think the only thing you need to fix is it naming. It tends to put in the wrong number of digits sometimes.
