May? I think it would definitely kill them, for sure. It is the world's biggest mistake to make in the gaming department. Not only would they lose the more rich costumers, but they would no longer be supported by the poorer peoples who purchase their systems and games, new and used.

If its true, a dying console and genre is what they deserve for being thieves and money-grubbers.

It will upset a lot of gamers for not being able to share their games on other friends' consoles, as well as selling their games when they're done with it. This also hurts the collectors, the people that actually keep their games, for not being able to buy any used out-of-print game laying around somewhere as it'll be unplayable.

I don't think this system would have much of a chance surviving. If it does, I am not going to buy one of these until I can find a used one on Amazon with a large collection of games bundled with it. None of my cash will go to MS for this.

I personally don't consider the 360 as a "next gen" because you can take any 4 disc game on the 360 and it will fit on one PS3/Blu-Ray disc. Hopefully this rumor above is fake, but I wouldn't mind if the Xbox getting Blu-Ray was real...would be about time!

Uh how would that work, what if your xbox had another virus attack like rings of death and you needed a new xbox. How would you play your xbox games then. How would it know what is used and what isn't. Also couldn't hacker just remove that setting an give out a patch. Would they sell alot if this feature is included, fk no. The main problem they'll have is those with broken xbox's in need of a new one but can't play any of there games bc of a anti-used function.

Xbox360 is equivently to PS2 or Wii when it comes to space on a disc which makes it complete shit for big games. Which most PS3 game are which makes it retarted when put it on xbox when the creators know it won't fit, but do it anyways.

That's why I hope the Xbox 720 rumor of getting Blu-Ray is real. However, if it isn't then Xbox 720 will not be considered a 'next gen' in my book.

You are forgetting one major thing about second hand games, Microsoft gets NOTHING from their resale. This is merely their way of trying to get people to buy the games first hand so they can make revenue from it (which isn't unheard of from a company), and if they other rumours are true, they will no doubt compensate it with other features (such as blu-ray support, etc.). You are making assumptions on a companies future not only based on one source of income (as they have many), but on unreliable data. Until we get solid information from Microsoft themselves, we cannot really say for sure.

lol, I was about to say, I'm no gonna even worry about it until Microsoft confirms, denies, and/or gives more information on it, but it seems Isaac beat me to it, lol

I'm not assuming anything I simply started a discussion based on the rumor and asked people what they thought about it IF IT WERE TRUE. I did not in any way claim it was the truth or would happen so the assumption is yours and not mine.

You mean 3rd party developers like Rock Star? Plus you are quite miss informed because the consoles also do not make money off used games because when a new game is bought the money dosen't go to the developer alone, but part goes to the console developer as well (Reference: Business & Legal Primer for Game Developers).

<p>Um why you guys think game publishers like EA, Sony Computer entertainment.  puttin online passes? to get online features. so if the online pass is used you got buy another. this can be used for DLC too. it helps to stop piracy and to stop people to buy used games online. and you must buy a 9$ Pass so the dev can win money

Ya, it would be a bad tactic to curb the used games market when you could just make a side business of selling 10 dollar online passes per used game. You'd be shutting off a potential revenue stream.

so your saying if this all went down, it would be a good idea to make people buy 10$ passes for used games that they had already paid? why should i have to pay twice for a game? "oh no, we only made 30 million dollars this year D: what do we do?!?! i feel so poor..." hey microsoft, i got somewhere you can shove that.. for me and my family, wed ahve to scrounge and save for a long time to afford a new game system, didnt get a ps2 till after the ps 3 came out, and we only buy used games cause they are cheaper to begin with, and usually they last more then long enuf to beat, and play multiple times aafter. i mean if you resurface a disk and take care of it, itl last forever, so even if i had cash to clow, id stil go used... what im getting at is ,,l,, microsoft.

Yes, but you relying on second hand games for your entertainment needs, none of your money went to the people behind those games. This is why publishers are pushing online passes, to actually make money off from used games. I don't like this at all but business is business. I don't complain too much about online passes because, in the end, if you buy the game for a low price on Amazon and pay $10 for online play you would still get the on the cheap. I've been told GameStop packs in online passes in their used games, but that is open for confirmation, I never shop there. If true, what do you have to complain about?

And you can play your games without an online pass, just can't play on their servers. The online play is a service in which this is the first generation of games to have this as a norm. Publishers don't see it fair having used game buyers play on their servers for free as servers cost money to maintain, especially more when nearly every new game has to have online play to appeal this generation of gamers.

What I am upset about is EA closing servers down within a short time, even with their online pass schemes.

Now, these "online passes". Are they like, a monthly thing? or a one time pay thing? If its something where you just have to pay for them once, I dont really see much anything wrong with it....if not, i hate it even more now.

Online Pass is a cheap shot to put money in their pocket. In 2010 EA made a big deal about the used video game market hurting them, but they made 1 billion dollars that year (as stated on their website). They hurt for money like I want to be blind!! Plus:

Yes, you have stated a good point. Greed or not it hasn't stopped me from buying the games I want to play because I am not finding it a major annoyance. However I've only purchased one game in my lifetime that included an online pass: Uncharted 3 which I heavily regret for being a quickly stale shallow run of the mill third person shooter with nothing new or inspiring that hasn't already been done by thousands of other games.
