Poll 1: The Re-installation of RMXP Unlimited

Ok, so, here's the problem...with the fact that Marked has been copying the forum from one host to another, the current forum is still running as if it was being hosted on 110mb.com. As such, some add-ons do not work, and will never work. If you haven't noticed, some of our add-ons are run down, and look to be falling apart...there is a fix to this, but it requires a measure that may kill RMXP Unlimited. If we want to make this forum better, though, I think we may have to consider it.

The step we may have to take is thus: Completely re-installing the forum and add-ons. As such, we will lose all members, requiring everyone to sign back up again. All old and new topics will be lost. In general, everything will be lost. However, it SHOULD allow us to re-install several add-ons, and get the site up and working properly once more...only problem with that is, though, we may not be able to keep the current site look, as I am currently unsure where to find the one Marked is using now (though I will definitely ask him).

So, now the question is, my friends and fellow forum members, do we take the risk of killing RMXP Unlimited by making people sign up again, and losing everything, or do we keep the forum running in it's currently, slowly deteriorating form, which will ultimately kill it eventually, as everything is slowly corrupting...leading to an unknown time when everything will corrupt and crash the site?

Also, in the above poll, I voted "Other" so that I don't have to continually hit "Show Results" in order to see the results. Plus, it'll keep me from voting in the poll.

Poll 2: Leon for Manager

Ok, so, after having a HUGE discussion between Saibot, Leon, and I on MSN, we have decided to put several new systems (for the better of the members) into effect. The first of these being that from now on, all updates will be posted her in poll format. You members may then vote on it, and, should the votes be for it, the add-on will be added. However, if the votes are against it, we will not use it. As such, as the first act of this new update, we now post this:

Leon has been more then helpful to us on RMXP Unlimited. He's been a moderator, an admin, and a normal member. After a long discussion with him, we feel he needs to be an admin once more, to help keep us other admins in line, as well as giving him the power to help keep all members in line. So, we now ask, should Leon be accepted into the Manager rank, and help to be a Manager of the site?

The Apology

As promised by the title, there is an "apology" here as well. Both me and Saibot will be posting it up. We would like to apologize for being...to put it bluntly...asses about everything. I made several updates without thinking about you guys, or future members. As such, everything I did that could cause problems has been taken down (MiDas Prod section, etc). I am still in the thought process of what to do about the wiki I have installed...I will probably post another poll about it on a later date, but I can't today. Also, if I have been mean to anyone, I apologize now, as well as in advance for anything I may do (though, upon realizing it, I will apologize then to.) With this, we now begin our idea of "If any member causes you trouble, report it." We want you all to keep in mind that you will not be warned/kicked/banned just because you speak your mind. Flaming is not tolerated. There are ways to do it without flaming people.

Once again, I apologize for being inconsiderate of all of you. I will do a better job next time.

Apology

After much talk with SCmike and Leon it seems I have been rude in a few posts; what can I say I am only human we all make mistakes. But even that is no reason to lash out at you members. They say power currupts the good and consume evil (a bit of my writters wits). I apologize for my sharp tone with some of you and all of you. I also hear some of you where mad that you where not included in having E-mail address. I apologize for not making it more clear that you would I just simply needed to make a Sign Up form. I am a nice guy at heart, but my curse is I take things some what personal (and I am sure some of you do as well).

I guess I was mad at SCmike and put that anger toward the members instead of discussing it with SCmike. I like this RMXP forum, better then most out there. And I surly don't want to see it die due to my errors and ignorance. I hope you can forgive me if I offended you in any way; after all I have a sharp mouth (why I am better known as Orochimaru which means Snake in Japan). Well any way now it's all about you so get ready members to be treated like kings...or queens if your females.

Now, which addons arent working, exactly? This I would like to know.

As for the apology, I would like to say that I speak for a good number, if not, all of the members that it is all water under the bridge. Bout time we put aside all petty differences and work toward the common goal: Better utilization of RmXP, its resources, and working together to make all our ideas come alive.

Also, about the forum. I don't know a whole lot about how these forums work, but arent all the topics and posts in 1 file? If so, if you must reinstall the site, cant you put that file somewhere while you do so, then move the file into place where it can be read for all topics and posts?

Further, if that can be done, can it not also be done with every other essential piece? Biggest things we need are teh posts, and the members.

Unfortunately, that's the problem...by re-uploading that file, all we do is bring the errors back...it is errors in the database, that can only be fixed by a full-on re-install of the forum. That's why we can't do it...I MIGHT be able to bring back the members, but I can't guarantee anything else. In fact, I can't even guarantee that...

I dunno, Saibot...I mean...the site problem is because of the database tables...if we download them, then re-upload them, we just use the same tables, thus the error won't go away...I think the only way to fix it is to fully re-install...but -shrugs- I dunno...In my mind, it won't work, since the problem is that we are using the database tables from 110mb.com...I don't see what re-installing, then re-uploading the 110mb.com-style database will do to fix it...

Leon, I voted for "Hellz Yes! He's awesome! Make him a manager!", it's fully deserved.

Now, before you erase every bit of hard work I did, I can tell you that you can have all of your members, topics and posts without having these errors. Erasing these would just be silly, unless your goal is to start again fresh. In the case, it would be a good idea. When you install a new mod, it should replace the data already in the database.

If you want this skin also, just download the "bullet" directory, and export the skin .xml file from the AdminCP. I modified the skin a lot. Including images. You dont need to make things harder than they really are. There are ways around everything remember.

haha, I'm smart...you're right, re-installing it all should fix it...but, I dunno...I tried a re-install with a couple mods, and it didn't do anything...maybe I should do a full un-install, then install...cause I just hit the re-install button instead...

As for the site redo. It would be obnoxious that I would have to re-register, but I chose "Bad Idea, but I would still register"

As for Leon being a manager, heck yeah. I believe he is very capable of such a position.

Though I haven't been an extremely active member, nor have I been here for very long, but I am a member. :P

As for reinstalling the whole forum, I know with SMF if you backup the database, it keeps all the current members, and stats etc. If I remember right, it didn't keep the mods/themes, though I'm not sure how these forums would work.

If you must completely reinstall to fix it, you will most likely lose a good amount of members, not saying people won't rejoin, but the ones who have registered in the past, and don't visit often, would probably not sign up again. Though, I say if you must, go for it.

As for Leon for manager, I haven't been a member long, so I don't really know anyone. From what I can see, Leon would make an awesome admin, he seems to care about the members, and there happiness which is a major part of being an admin.

And as for the apology, I only slightly remember what was posted, and then never read it after my post. Although what you said was rather harsh, I don't think it's a bit deal. So in short, it's fine.

I say reinstalling is a bad idea because look how many members we made and how far these great forums have gotten. Who cares if we loose a little casino mod and some other mods, it really doesn't matter to me. I say just move the forums no reinstalling, but if you must, you must! Also about leon being manager, hellz yeah, hes been here since the forums began and served us well!

Yeah...the problem with moving it, is that we have moved it several times, but everytime we move it, we move all the info from 110mb.com, including all the errors. That's why I said we may need to re-install...but I haven't decided yet. It would also cut down all the inactive members, too, though...we may have almost 400 members, but the problem is, 90% are inactive or spam accounts...with the new system we have up, though, it should help cut down on th inactivity, cause only people with 15 posts or more can get to the resources now, which means no one can register, grab, and leave, without staying for a while.

Though that will help cut down on inactive accounts, it will also push people away from joining. Though us admins may not like it, most people join RPG Maker forums, just to get the little help they may need, or some resources, and then leave. I think making the 15 post requirement will make it so some people won't join, most people I have talked to about making it so "guests", and new members are limited as to what they see, say they wouldn't join a site where they couldn't see what they will get first. The only reason I joined was to give my input on a question asked in the RPG Help area, if I couldn't have seen that before I joined, I probably wouldn't have.

As for reinstalling, I voted "Bad idea, but I will come back if it's done". I think if it can be avoided at all, even if that means losing some/most of the mods, don't do it. If it's completely necessary, then I guess go for it.

Yeah...you can see the forums, but you can't post or download anything until you get 15 posts...so...I'm HOPING to get more members in that way...but we'll see...

I had the same idea with my sites resources, I was going to have it so guests can view the resources, but not be able to save/download them unless they registered. My members talked me out of that, with pretty much what I said before. Most people won't join a site that they HAVE to join in order to get the content, most will join when they like the content they received, and want to contribute back, or have questions.

Redoing the forum might be nice for you guys... but dropping all of the content here... Gods... That'd really suck. This forum is so nicely built up. Consider this: What do you think people want more? An uber-powered forum, or good content? I'd accept a crappy, old styled link system forum if it had the kind of content this place does... If you're going to lose all the posts... I for one will not likely be back for a looong long time until it's been built up again. Most people who don't like forums much but will participate here for the mutual information this place has to offer will not show up again...

I am totally against it. I may be a total noob here, but I'm excited about continuing here until I'm not a total noob and then maybe even until I'm not a noob at all. I could even be a veteran one day! Y'know? So please don't redo the forum... I, for one, am completely against it. I don't want the info here that I've bookmarked to be gone when I return to check it out again... It's too great a place to go the way of Atlantis. Please.

It's ok...I haven't been fully active either...so...I've been busy playing Sims 2...I should really work on Crystals of Chaos...but...I dunno...I'm not sure where to go with it...I think I've gone as far as I can with RPG Maker XP...and it's just not far enough...

You know, to get rid of spammers and phony accounts, why not just leave all resources open? It is what i did at RM Galaxy. We may only have 11 members, but we have no phony B.S. goin on.
