Best Capture software?

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I finally got a new Dazzle...because the old one (mainly because it and Windows 7 hate each other, lol) was attacking my computer with blue screen errors. So, I'm looking for the best software to "preview" my game. So...yeah...

Studio 14 - Quality is bleh...that and it takes over the screen...making it hard for me to multitask on this computer.

Adobe Live Encode - Er, whatever its called...it works...it can't do widescreen for some reason though. :/

Debut: The thing I'm messing with right now, it works, does widescreen...problem being...I can't read crap on it. It's blurry basically...and I don't wanna look at a tiny screen. (when you blow it up to fullscreen, its just horrid. xD )

Anyone else know of a better program that I can use? Something with a big, clear image...>.>

I wanna be able to "preview" (aka, play my games)...before I worry about recording problems. xD

P.S: I remember that some program that someone suggested a while back put a lot of other crap on my computer when installing. I don't want any of that please. >.>

Once again try http://camstudio.org/ -Best free one i have found so far.

If you don't mind putting up some cash i would really recommend this one. http://www.bandicam.com/

As for the extra crap that came with whatever last time was most likely your fault. Most people don't read stuff before clicking next, next, next. Always look at every little check box when installing stuff. Even go to custom setup if it has it.

It never said anything about the extra stuff though...it just installed....sooo, yeah. Gonna stick with the free stuff for now.

It's not free, but it does have a 30 trial with I believe no limitations. Camtasia if by far the best program I have ever used, it costs an arm and a leg, but it comes with everything you need. Depending on how long term you need a program I would suggest looking into it. I have yet to try camstudio, but if pol suggests it, I intend to look into it.

...Ummm, yeah Pol CamStudio isn't exactly what I'm looking for. xD

It's not even picking up my video device.

EDIT: Actually it looks like I can't even mess with the size...(found out how to display my Dazzle though...but still)

Seems like it pretty much does what the Adobe Encoder does...o.o

What do you mean by device? It just records whatever is showing on your screen(PC Screen). No devices needed.

If your trying to record with a capture device like what you have for your console then you have no choice but to use what they give you.

Um, yeah I kinda said that at the top there...this is for my Dazzle. And there are plenty of different programs out there for it...which is why I'm asking for help...because I get different results with different programs. (like Debut being able to do widescreen but get a blurry image...Am I stuck with the cruddy 4:3 ratio or something? :/ ) I remember uploading a few videos to youtube with that size and I got so thick black border...ugh.

Oh lol. I thought you were trying fancy words with Dazzle lol. You could always try changing your resolution.

lol...nah, Dazzle is a capture device for stuff like video cameras and whatnot. (and of course gaming consoles)

Resolution as in my desktop's? Because when I try that in something like Debut, I get a cruddy image.

Yea try lowering your desktop resolution a little. Whats your current resolution?

640x480 is the wii's standard resolution.

....1920x1080. T.T

I'm afraid to do that and screw everything up. xD

You think there's a way to set it up to change when a certain program runs?

That reminds me, what's the system's widescreen resolution exactly?

I think its 854x480. I dont see why anything would mess up by changing the resolution on your computer. I do it all the time. If the screen goes black or says mode not supported just wait 15sec and it will revert back.

Eh, whatever...might try that soon then...otherwise I may just end up being stuck with the 4:3 ratio. Something tells me its not the desktop resolution though, I dunno. xD

I saw the reference to Dazzle, and thought the same thing. I actually had to google Dazzle, I like how you assumed everyone in the whole world knows what a Dazzle is. I still am not even 100% clear what you are even trying to achieve. But if you are using an official product, I don't see why you aren't using their customer support.

They never answer my threads, I think all they have is a forum. >.>

Usually a lot of people I talk to know what I'm talking about with Dazzle and capturing game consoles.

yeah changing resolution doesn't do much...

Your first post says nothing about capturing game console picture, it talks more about computers.

I still don't know what kind of software you are looking for. What purpose would the software serve, like why do you need it? Are you trying to view the file that dazzle creates and puts onto your computer? Maybe if you better explained the purpose of Dazzle and exactly what you are trying to do without giving examples of other programs. Just say in laments terms what you are trying to achieve. This problems seems solvable, but I don't have enough information.

Yeah I noticed I never mentioned anything in the first post, sorry...

I'm using it to play my games (and when I feel like it, recording them) on here...that's pretty much it.

I don't know what else to say...when you go into 16:9 mode with whatever program...I get a cruddy image....4:3 looks perfect.

"I'm using it to play my games (and when I feel like it, recording them) on here...that's pretty much it."

What 'games' pc, console, wii, nintendo 64, atari?

What's a 'here',

"I don't know what else to say...when you go into 16:9 mode with whatever program."

What do you mean 'whatever program' I don't understand.

You are using way too many vague terms mate.

Explain to me the entire setup. Where does dazzle hookup to, what are you using, like you are giving me so little information, I still don't understand what you are doing. Assume I know nothing, because do know nothing, and explain it to me from the ground up like you are trying to sell me something.

If you answer these questions, I can almost guaranteed find the cause of your problem, which is the first step to solving it.

  1. Is Dazzle hardware or software?
  2. If hardware, how does it connect to your PC/TV, what kind of cord, A/V, Component, HD Cable, etc.
  3. Explain to me what the purpose of Dazzle is, explain it to me like you are telling me how you set the whole thing up.
  4. What exact purpose does the secondary capturing program you need function as?
  5. You mentioned playing console games, where does this factor in? Is a real life console hooked up somewhere in this equation?

I reserve the right to ask follow up questions based on the answers you provide. If you answer the questions properly, there should likely be no need. how can you expect me to help you If you aren't willing to give me the information I need to solve your problem (which I am confident I can, at bare minimum, progress you to the point where you can solve it your self with the information I ascertain). I believe the issue can be solved by changing a setting somewhere to allow for better resolution, but I need a better understanding how you are using these different components, which you should be able to explain to me in a matter of minutes, versus my hours of research. Help me to help you.

I use Debut Video Capture Software Professional and it can record ANYTHING you can see on your desktop. Also the sound is automatically setup and I have never had any problems with it as of the time of this post.
