Story

1000 years ago a world war known as The Great War took place. The world was once a peaceful place. People lived together in peace. They worked with one another for the better of the world. However over time people began to change. People started to have different views of the world. People did not accept the differences of other people. This led to the Great War. Many lives were lost in battle. A great power was created by the Dragon Wizards. The original purpose of this great power was made to restore the nature that was destroyed during The Great War. The power is strong enough to destroy the galaxy. No man has ever wielded such power. Since that time peace has been achieved. After the war, people who shared common interest formed nations. Many nations work side by side continue the peace on Earth.

Neon was once a peaceful nation; it is the largest nation on Earth. 100 years ago a man known as Gauchet would rebel against his own nation, Neon. A nation that he once defended as a high classed knight became his foe. Gauchet attempted to overthrow the king as he believed he should be worshiped and treated as a God for his great deeds as a soldier. His attempt failed and he was banished from the nation. Many people did not understand why Gauchet changed into a power hungry man. Three years later Gauchet made his return. He led an evil army to rule the land.

In the present time Gauchet has prepared his forces to rule over Earth. Gauchet’s four generals have gathered the resources to start a new Great War. Some nations have fallen to Gauchet’s might while others are barely holding a fight. Now the Dark Army has it sights on Romanica.

Is it possible to include the RTP with the demo download? I attempted to play this and I due not have the RTP, nor do I know 100% where to go to get it, etc. If it is possible, I would appreciate the rtp being included, or making it not necessary(which I believe you can do by manually adding the files).

Thanks in advance for your time, I look forward to trying this.

Sorry I can't allow the RTP to be available. I don't want anyone editing the game's files.

You can download the RTP at RPG Maker Web. It is the only place to legally download RTP for ACE, VX, and XP.

I was thinking that whatever file I am about to go download and need to play your game, could you simply include the install file along with your game? Is that at all realistically possible? Saves others from having to go download something separate, if it could just be packaged along side the game(the same thing you intend for me to download). This way you do the step once and save everyone else who would have needed to do it from having to. Just a thought/suggestion, if this isn't possible I understand.

EDIT:

Just read the agreement, says can not redistribute, shame. Does this mean every person who wants to play your game has to download two separate parts if they currently do not have the rtp?

That maybe the case. It won't take long to install. I don't see it as a big deal, but potential players could be annoyed by this.

I agree it won't take long and I intend to do it.

I was more concerned with appropriating my release. There has got to be some legal way around this. It seems silly to me that the only way to play a game made on an RM engine is to have to download two things separately. As a program development stand point that seems silly to me. I thought if I either didn't use any of the RTP graphics or if I manually added them then toggled the RTP off, I wouldn't need to have potential players download it. Is this correct? Or does every person who is intended to play any game made on the most 3 recent RM programs need the RTP without exception?

This has it's rough edges, but it's not without it's shining points either. This has an awesome classic feel to it. The personal interactions and dialogue and done well enough, and the city, world map, and indoor layouts are near perfect.

This is an excellent nostalgia type game, great job. How much is finished, and how much does the demo show?

I noticed a glitch where characters are moving around in a scene, and you can move on your own (if you happen to teleport out you can come back in and replay the scene again).

Not bad, but not too great. I still think it can be improved.

It's been ages since we last talked.

I noticed a glitch

I noticed tons of glitches but since it's a demo, and not the real game, I just assumed it would get alpha and beta tested accordingly before it was actually ready. This was a demo, and there for just an example of what the game could be like correct? That's how I took it anyhow, which is why I liked it. If this was a full release I would have torn it apart, because it's incomplete.

Thanks for the playing the games. What are the glitches?

A small update.

This is the current battle system. I may change it if I take the time to learn how to write scripts.

They were all really really simple stuff, all things I assumed you (or the alpha tester) would notice when playing through and before releasing it for reals. I don't want to say lies from the top of my head because I can't remember specific examples, but there were enough, but nothing major. If you want I would be more then happy to Alpha test your complete project and give you detailed notes into 'glitches'.

EDIT: I stopped reporting glitches on demos because it's a demonstration of what you plan to release, and not the finished product. I just thought it was kinda rude of me to spam people with in depth errors and glitches.

Right, there were other glitches too. But the main one seemed to happen during scenes. I also noticed that TheLegacy is stuck behind a door on one of the houses on a town map when exiting.

Also, you really should give a reason for me to check out every home if they're not going to have any items/GPs, as I noticed a lot of your house interiors look bland and too uniform to distinguish one from another. Why not have the player look for items in urns, boxes, and such? Kinda contradicts the purpose of treasure hunting when you have a bunch of copy-and-paste houses with nothing to find inside most of the time.

That. And the houses in the town screenshot look EXACTLY THE SAME. It looks generic at best. Make some of those houses bigger/different in shapes, and add other decor like chimneys. Also, place some dirt paths, ponds, and gardens. Your town needs to be more lively and interesting.

All the things being mentioned here are pretty cosmetic, and I agree with all of them. But I mean I if I were you Rkofranklin I wouldn't even worry about fixing any of those things until the game is done from start to end. That way you can just go over the game with a 'detail brush', which make more sense.

The reason to go in houses is totally good feedback though, and very valid, don't forget to add that.

I think because your game is in the earlier stages you have likely already planned to make the cosmetic changes people are mentioning, but maybe not, so it's great they are. In any case because the game is still in development I think when posting a demo asking for a certain type of feedback might help. Not everyone builds a game using the same method or in the same order as me, so I don't know what kind of feedback you are looking for. If you wanted I would have totally wrote down everything I noticed while I was playing, but since it said demo I assumed you just wanted opinions on the story and overall concept of the game, worrying about the finer things when testing time comes. I tend to hold back, because if people want generic feedback, a giant 3 page bug list might not be constructive, on the other hand if the story is a place holder, they might want bug feedback for building their engine. I hate to overwhelm people and pick something apart that may not need it yet, no one has done that here, but I was wondering what kind of feedback you need so I can maybe go through again and give you more helpful insight.

I really don't mean to get off-topic, or clutter this topic; but I'm PRETTY sure you're allowed to distribute RTP alongside your game release; VX and VX Ace give you the option directly IN the editor:

rtp.png

I'm pretty sure, if you weren't allowed to do this enterbrain wouldn't GIVE you to option through the software... But I'm no legal expert, nor do I read licenses...I know, I'm bad/lazy D: ...

Also, if you don't use RTP at all you don't have to include it, nor is it needed. As long as the RGSSxxx.dll file is in the game folder (RPG Maker VX Ace includes it in ALL game folders by default, VX/XP just require you to find it in your computer and put it in your game folder)

*ahem* sorry RKO. I felt I needed to say that--if anyone wants me to, I can make up a tutorial for how to distribute RMxx games, without requiring the user to have RTP installed....I'm just kinda worried about Jon's comment on the license (I'm not a law expert)

As a tip, the best way to release RM games is two versions: 1 with RTP included (much larger download) and 1 without RTP (for those with RTP already installed)

I think the licensing terms refer to redistributing the material separately, including using them in a non-RPG Maker project. That would make sense. It is important to remember most EULAs are written to only be decyphered by a legal expert, and not the end user. If this is a real concern you can take this up to your lawyer that specializes in Intellectual Property.

There is no one in the game named TheLegacy. I have a feeling I know who you are.

How did you get stuck behind a down? Where does this happen at?

I will not allow the player to treasure hunt in most houses. You are playing as a hero, not a thief. You can find treasures in the town, forests, and dungeons. There are some treasures in houses but you need to get permission from the home owner. That is not stealing.

That. And the houses in the town screenshot look EXACTLY THE SAME. It looks generic at best. Make some of those houses bigger/different in shapes, and add other decor like chimneys. Also, place some dirt paths, ponds, and gardens. Your town needs to be more lively and interesting.

There are some houses with different interiors. How many houses did you enter?

It doesn't have to be treasure hunting. There can be many different types of things the player can do in peoples homes, off the top of my head;

  • books with story lore, dungeon treasure hints, other game insight and tips
  • Trash cans, anything in the trash is free dibs, he may be a hero, but maybe give people the option to loot through and see what goodies people may have thrown out by mistake.
  • Lost Items, have some houses have items other town members have lost while visiting their neighbors. You can even make them mini chains so they can only be done one at a time to not clog up the inventory. Quest item with a description that gives the hint of who to talk to
  • General points of interest, your houses could have minor messages commenting on the things the player is looking at 'fine china' or like 'a sturdy table', not too much, but enough to add what some call 'flavor' to the game and world.
  • Free Stuff, why does all stuff in a house have to be stealing? Some people offer guests tea, and other beverages, anything on a table could just be assumed as guest food, like a candy dish.

Those are just some example ideas, feel free to use them or trash them so to speak. Anyhow, I think that you could definitely ad allot of stuff to the houses, including treasure, without making the main character a thief, you just have to think outside the box. The result is a more dynamic and interactive world.

Updated: June 13, 2011

I added a new character! Everyone please welcome Jayden. Here is her short preview video.

Jayden and this cut scene were not part of the game's original development with the original VX program. She was just a last minute additional who I think will serve well in the story.

I had it when I decided to remake Sanctuary: Remnant Squadron, but I don't know what I did with it... it converted actor data, skills, items, monsters, common events. everything except scripts obviously.

Hey everybody! I need some suggestions for the seventh playable character. His name is Richard! I'm not sure which design I should use. I am lending towards the shades. I want to know what you guys think.

His eyes(or maybe it's just the way ace gen characters look) seem too large for his age. I would go with the first character with shades, but the face with glasses.
