leejanes123 1 Report post Posted May 19, 2012 Dark Matter is a new age rpg mixing many of the classic rpg systems thrown together. ~Ranting is T-Teen~ Genre- Sci-Fi Platform- RPG Maker VX. ~Story~ The protagonist, of who's name is up to you, awakens in a crash site. Flames dance around him and a large space craft lays embedded in the mountainside beside him. With no idea in what's going on and few survivors, he is confronted by the battered Lione, who reveals she is the vice-warden from the crashed prison ship. You are one of the prisoners. But who crashed the ship? Was it you? You don't remember. You were locked in stasis for an unknown amount of time. Was it the vice-warden? She seems to hate you and all criminals. Or was it the warden, Cyrril, who blames both you and the vice-warden, forcing an unlikely alliance with her as he hunts you both down? The only thing to do is run to the nearby town and find out what's going on... And that starts the story of Dark Matter. Intrigued? I hope so. ~Credits~ thanks to - Redeyereaper for all the art work done check it out - http://redeyereaper.deviantart.com/ Edgar Duncan for all the work being done best writer i know and amazing on RPG Maker VX Scott and Arron for the music to those that translated the following scripts and any others that we have used in the game i will put up a full list with names ect when i have time. Jon Bon 43 Report post Posted May 20, 2012 Yeah this looks excellent. If you put the same level of production quality into your AVI files as you did the rest of what you showed us up top, I can only imagine how awesome they would be. This game looks great and innovative you seem to have achieved a very nice style and feel that mesh well together. I am very impressed by this creation, don't be modest a second release is excellent, this game looks near if not fully commercial. Keep up the excellently polished work. If you need help post a thread here on the forums, we will render any assistance we can. I for one want to see this exist! ~Cheers
Edgar 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2012 Thanks so much for your kind comments. I was afraid Dark Matter would get a lot of negative feedback from its initial screenshot and story release. I want people to enjoy the game and also get engrossed in the characters and the story that stems from them. Thanks for the support. We'll post on here if we need help with anything. I also see projects through, so one way or another, this game will exist in completion! :)
leejanes123 1 Report post Posted May 23, 2012 Hey guys heres the first development blog its about 3 months old now so please bare that in mind as lots of stuff has been fixed ect hope you all enjoy it :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5C7bCrAu8E&feature=plcp
Jon Bon 43 Report post Posted May 23, 2012 I loved the two dev blogs. I always assume people are young when making a game, but from your production quality I should have expected a fellow 20+ nerd like myself. I am definitely envious you guys have people to work with in real life, and collaborate together. That laptop and wickedly huge screen setup looked sweet too. My only 'complaint' was that the audio was a touch hard to hear, not too bad, but something that if you all tried to project your voices a bit when on camera it would help the viewer to hear you better. The other thing I noticed is you play with a keyboard setup when testing the game, I wanted to suggest maybe hooking up a gamepad and/pr a PS3/Xbox controller as a gamepad to use to test the game as you make it. I almost always use a gamepad when playing others peoples indy creations, and test with one too, it's just more smooth and less clunky for an rpg. Something to consider. In any case the game looked really good. I like the real time action sequence, although it was hard to figure out what was going on, it looked very interactive and cool. I really like the look and feel of the characters, reminds me a little of the style of the animated series Teen Titans, which I loved and haven't really seen anything similar since. Alignment always rocks too, and the trophy system is a definite bonus in games now a days. Loved the idea of a Nexus where the player goes and it has game elements you can access, reminded me of the Nexus in Ever Quest. You guys seem to have a lot of good ideas combined together into a nice system for your game. I can't wait to find out more about the story. Keep up the passionate work team Dark Matter. ~Cheers! 1 Arkbennett reacted to this

Arkbennett 16 Report post Posted June 5, 2012 Oh. That's right, I'm 20+ too! Damn. When did I stop being a teen? Hrm.. I concur Jon Bon. It is nice to see some buddehs working together on a project. While I respect your creativity and also enjoyed Triple Triad, I feel like adding it would be too gimmicky. A script can be cool and sound like a good idea in term of funtionality and gameplay, but that doesn't mean you should add it. I remember the first time I discovered scripts, I added all kinds of things: Day/Night with Clock, Alchemy, Lighting, FF7 Custom Menu, etc. It was like mixing cake batter and adding all kinds of unrelated shit, "Oh hey! Brocolli, Pepper, and Jell-O would definately make some banging batter!" No, no it won't. It will taste bitter and have jacked up consistency and texture, deviating from my original idea of yummy cake.
leejanes123 1 Report post Posted June 8, 2012 no its just something for players to do in spare time if they want. i think its adds a layer to the game it gives the player something to collect and something to do if they want a break from game-play along with bounty's and achievement's. as it stands there is only 1 more script we want and its for the title but the script we want wont work with the Materia script so if you know anyone that could play with it to get it to work we would really appreciated
Jon Bon 43 Report post Posted June 8, 2012 i think its adds a layer to the game it gives the player something to collect and something to do if they want a break from game-play along with bounty's and achievement's. I agree. I don't think it's too gimmicky because your game didn't have an element to fit the parameters you just mentioned. I personally believe all rpg's need some form of mini game system. Definitely a great addition. I don't know if you planned to or not, but if you are able to maybe reskin it to not read triple triad, and don't mention the FF8 tie in. That game is old enough now most people won't even know where it came from. Of course credit it accordingly in your credits roll, but if you stray away from advertising the Final Fantasy aspect of the card game people will give it a more fair opinion. As it is my preferred card game of all the rpg's I have ever played, I think if you pitch it as the Dark Matter card game it will be better received. And if anyone asks or says it's from Final Fantasy 8, you just say "yup, it most certainly is, and proudly so". Hiding something and not saying it are different, and could be the difference between a better fan response. Just my opinion though.
