My E3 2012 Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Glad im not the only one who thought about e3 like you did.

I didnt care for really anything in e3. The only thing that caught my attention and i might get is Last of Us.

Didnt even care for microsoft. watched half of it and got sick of it.

Sony was alright but they went over that damn book to much.

Nintendo seems like i seen and played it already. Nintendo in general makes me feel like im 5 years old.

Only 1 thing im looking forward to is Last of Us and thats it.

Beyond+Last of Us+Watch Dogs = Awesome

I'm interested in Pikmin 3.

Microsoft was a joke.

Spellbook is a terrible, terrible idea.

Can't wait for AC3, Watch Dogs, Last Of Us! Splinter Cell: Blacklist looked pretty good though. I haven't seen the Microsoft conference yet.

I want FFvsXIII heard a rumor that it might become FFXV but it seems pretty sketch, Kingdom Hearts 3 Does not come until we get FFXV and FFXV is supposed to be the intermediate b/w KH2/BBS/3DS and KH3 in terms of Gameplay

Step it up Nomura :o

@Ecowolfsteen It was trash. Beware.

@Enigma Yes, that was a rumor that got debunked.

I can't find the article, but I remember reading one where Tetsuya Nomura basically said they are done with KH games until KHIII comes out, but they aren't working on that until they finish vsXIII (But as I type that out, it seems almost to good to be true. Square Enix not brand spamming SOMETHING? That is impossebru!).

I think the reason for all of E3 sucking is because most of the game companies are focused on making games for the next gen consoles that are around the corner(end of 2013 maybe).

Next E3 better be good.

I'll back that. But the way of the future of the games themselves is through independent development and alternative financing methods. Check this out, one of my most favourite series, they weren't at E3 and aren't part of the big companies, yet fans literally gave them almost millions of dollars with no time frame promises to make their game.

Unfortunately the main companies who make games now are stuck in their old ways, but soon the passionate and dedicated people who make up the companies are likely to strike out on their own like the guy who invented the shadow run series.

Watch the first video, and notice on the right their goal was $400 000 and they got 1.8 million through fan interest backing.

E3 is cool and everything, but to me I don't watch it to see what games are coming out, you gotta search underground connections to find good gems way beforehand like the upcoming title Shadowrun. E3 is better for checking out what the console makers are up to, and what cool peripherals we will get.

I do have high hopes for the next gen of systems, but for games my hope lay squarely in the hands of the independent developers like the people from Harebrained Schemes, and others aspiring to one day be like them.

Instead of worrying about E3 and stuff you will likely just hear about on television, and internet ads or from friends, why not give people like the Independent Games Festival your support and following, this was their 14th year after all. Makes more sense to support people who make their art for free and out of passion then being continually disappointing with the cookie cutter corporate factory games pumping out clones like some Star Wars army. Support what you like, stop talking about what you don't, quit giving the big guys the satisfaction.

Spellbook is a terrible, terrible idea.

It wasn't that the Wonderbook is a terrible idea, it was a terrible idea of mentioning it at E3 to an audience with a majority of, you know, people with no kids. Sony must have forgotten that crucial bit of information. They should have saved this advertising for a nationwide tour at Barnes & Nobile bookstores instead.

But yeah this year's E3 has been terrible. This is probably the most forgetable E3 this entire generation. Sony dropped the ball on their show for giving spotlight to a peripheral that benefits only a very small percentage of the entire audience, and the attention given to their latest handheld console is only a step above zero. Microsoft showed us another batch of sequels to the franchises they religiously milk to death, along with more gimmicks aimed for a casual audience. Nintendo didn't answer any of the most important questions for the Wii U. No pricing, no release date, no clear details on hardware specs, no confirmation of their native output resolution for their first party games (1080p is very important for a next gen system no excuses).

UbiSoft has a decent show. Watch Dogs is especially good for PC gamers, even though it will be released on consoles, the PC version will be the definite and not some crappy run of the mill console port.
